He was named Gannon’s head football coach May 3, 2012 during a press conference in the Board Room of Old Main. Rzyczycki served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Gannon for the previous five seasons after spending four campaigns prior to that in the same role at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky. He briefly served as the Gannon interim head coach after Jim Kiernan stepped down from the post on February 23, 2012. Gannon has reached unprecedented heights since his hiring as head coach. After a 3-8 record during his first season in 2012, Gannon improved to 6-5 in 2013 and 9-2 in 2014. The Golden Knights ended the 2014 campaign with a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division regular-season title. The squad also tied the school record for most victories in a season, a mark originally set when the 2003 squad went 9-1 as an NCAA Division II Independent. Jansen Jones broke the school’s single-season records for rushing yards (1,588), all-purpose yards (1,817) and points (102) in 2013. Brock Jones then reset all three records in 2014 with 1,628 rushing yards, 108 points and 1,826 all-purpose yards. Liam Nadler produced the top four single-season marks for passing yards in 2012 (2,910), 2013 (2,859), 2014 (2,750) and 2015 (2,641). Nadler graduated as the school’s all-time leader in pass attempts (1,460), pass completions (851), passing yards (11,160), pass completion percentage (58.3), 300-yard games (16), 200-yard games (30), passing touchdowns (82), passing yards per attempt (7.64) and total offense (11,863). The top six single-season reception totals have also been recorded with Hoeg as the offensive mastermind. Hoeg spent the previous four seasons as the offensive coordinator, quarterback coach and recruiting coordinator at Wabash (Ind.) College. He helped guide the Little Giants to a 39-7 record over four seasons which included three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances (2008, 2009, 2011) and two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships (2008, 2011). The squad ranked sixth in the final 2011 Coaches Association (AFCA) national rankings, concluding his final season 12-1 overall after falling to 10-time national champion Mount Union in the national quarterfinals. Wabash averaged 36.5 points per game from 2008-11 with Hoeg as the offensive coordinator. The offensive efficiency included 102 touchdown passes and 95 rushing touchdowns. As a result, 27 student-athletes earned all-conference honors during that time frame. Eight offensive starters were named to the all-conference teams during his final season in 2011. Wabash had three offensive players named All-American and three student-athletes earned Academic All-District honors during his four seasons. Hoeg’s offensive unit was one of the nation’s best during his stay at Wabash. Individually, the Little Giants’ quarterback ranked 19th nationally in pass efficiency and their top receiver ranked 27th in yards per game in 2010. His 2009 Wabash squad ranked sixth nationally in passing efficiency (163.43), 13th in scoring offense (38.82), 15th in turnover margin (1.27) and 21st in total offense per game (432.18). In his first season with the Little Giants, his offense finished 11th nationally in scoring (39.42) and 17th in total offense per game (436.92) while setting a school record with 33 rushing touchdowns. The Wabash quarterback earned back-to-back conference MVP awards in 2008 and 2009. Prior to his stay at Wabash, Hoeg spent one season as the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Lake Forest (Ill.) College, where his offensive unit set the school record for touchdown passes and tied the best mark for completions. The Foresters averaged 25.5 points and 358.1 yards per game. The program had 14 all-conference selections and eight academic all-conference honorees during his tenure. During the summer of 2011, Hoeg helped the USA National Football Team win the 2011 World Championship in Austria. He served as the running backs coach, tutoring tournament MVP Nate Kmic and helping the team finish 4-0. Hoeg graduated from Coe (Iowa) College in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He played wide receiver for the Kohawks, helping the squad win an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship (IIAC) in 2002 and earn a berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. That team recorded the first playoff win in school history with a 21-18 victory against the University of Wisconsin- during the opening round. Hoeg was named team captain in 2003 and led the team with an average of 21.4 yards per reception as a senior. The Wapello, Iowa, native remained at Coe College as a graduate assistant coach during a period which saw the program finished 25-8 over three seasons with two IIAC championships and one NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. He coached four All-IIAC receivers, including two first- team selections. The Coe offense averaged 28.8 points and 389.3 yards per game while Hoeg served as the wide receivers coach. He earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at Coe, before leaving to become the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Lake Forest College. Hoeg resides in Meadville, Pennsylvania with his wife Portia, who is the Director of Athletics at Allegheny College.

JOHN THOMPSON - DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR | SAFETIES COACH

Thompson begins his fourth season at Gannon in 2017, Personal Data holding the roles of defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Hometown: Rome, N.Y. He possesses 21 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 15 College Education: Marist ’94 seasons as a defensive coordinator. Thompson became a Golden Knight after spending the previous three seasons as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at St. Vincent (Pa.) College. His defensive backs earned all-conference accolades four times during the last two campaigns. “Coach Thompson is a great addition to the Gannon football staff,” said Rzyczycki upon his hiring. “In addition to being a player’s coach, his defensive coordinator resume speaks for itself. Coach Thompson is also a great fit for Gannon University as a recruiter. He understands and embraces the mission of Gannon University. We’re extremely happy to have him join our family.” Thompson helped St. Vincent (Pa.) earn a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Bowl with a 6-5 record in 2011 after the Bearcats went 3-7 the previous season. Under Thompson’s leadership, the 2011 Bearcat defense led the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) in scoring defense (17.1), pass efficiency defense (103.2) and interceptions (18). St. Vincent also ranked second among conference teams in total defense (286.4) and rushing defense (106.7). In the process, St. Vincent established new school records in those five categories. The Rome, N.Y., native previously spent four years (2007-10) as an assistant coach at Mercyhurst. He began his Laker tenure as the recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach in 2007. He then assumed the defensive coordinator role from 2008-10. In 2010, Mercyhurst won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title, captured the ECAC Lambert Cup, was named ECAC Team of the Year and made its first-ever NCAA Division II national playoff appearance. Under Thompson’s guidance, the defense unit surrendered only 286 yards per game and fewer than 13 points during seven different contests. The Laker defense ranked among the top 20 nationally in total defense during each of his three years as the defensive coordinator. His defensive student-athletes earned all-conference accolades 18 times during his tenure. Thompson spent seven years (2000-06) at NCAA I-AA (presently Football Championship Subdivision) Sacred Heart prior to his stint at Mercyhurst, serving as the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2002-06. He began his Sacred Heart stint as a defensive line coach and special teams coordinator for two seasons (2000-01). Sacred Heart produced a perfect 11-0 record in 2001, winning the Division I-AA mid-major national championship. His coaching resume also includes a two-year stop at St. Francis (Pa.) where he served as the linebackers and defensive backs coach, as well as the recruiting coordinator. He started his coaching career at his alma mater Marist, where he was an assistant coach in 1996 and 1997. Thompson’s defense led the country in total defense (212.0) and rushing defense (48.0) in 1997. Thompson graduated from Marist in 1994 with a degree in business administration. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Red Foxes. A member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Thompson resides in Erie with his wife Sarah (Kovach) and children Ryan (5), Joseph (3) and Libby (2).

ARIK WOLF - RECRUITING COORDINATOR | LINEBACKERS COACH Wolf begins his sixth season as a member of the Gannon coaching staff in 2017, serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator Personal Data and linebackers coach. Hometown: Lawrenceburg, Ind. Gannon linebackers have excelled under Wolf’s leadership. College Education: Indiana ’09 Most recently, Anthony Howard earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Wife: Brittney Conference (PSAC) honors last season after ranking third among Children: Reese Lynn (2) and Carter Joy (2) conference players and 38th nationally with 9.6 tackles per game. His 106 tackles represented the seventh-highest single-season total in program history. Joshua Wiechelt earned All-PSAC and USA all-america honors in 2015. He led the PSAC and ranked 34th among all NCAA Division II players in tackles per game (9.9). Wiechelt’s 109 total tackles equaled the sixth-highest single-season total all-time at Gannon. Luke Rankie previously earned back-to-back all-conference honors, including a first-team selection in 2014. His 115 tackles as a junior ranked third all-time at Gannon and represented the most by a Golden Knight in 10 years. He finished second among PSAC players in tackles per game (10.5), fourth in solo tackles per game (5.0) and fifth in tackles for a loss per game (1.5). Wolf spent the previous two seasons as the defensive line coach at Allegheny (Pa.) College. In addition to his primary duties with the defensive line, he helped coordinate the run game defense, scout the pass protection scheme and assist the strength and conditioning coach. Wolf’s defensive lines helped the Gators post a 12-8 record during his two-year tenure. The unit ranked fourth nationally in rush defense during the 2010 campaign. Prior to Allegheny, Wolf was an assistant football coach at East Central High School in St. Leon, Ind., where he oversaw the defensive line and helped guide the team to a 10-3 record and the 2009 sectional title. Wolf graduated from Indiana University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. He was a mainstay on the defensive line while earning three varsity letters. A 2008 One Play Warrior honoree for outstanding special teams play, Wolf played in the 2007 Insight Bowl. He was a two-sport student-athlete for the Division I Hoosiers, participating in wrestling and football. Wolf resides in Erie, Pennsylvania with his wife Brittney and his twin daughters Reese Lynn (2) and Carter Joy (2).

In addition to serving as the strength and conditioning coach, his main responsibility on the field was with the safeties. Mitchell also assisted the linebacker group. He worked with a defense that ranked 19th among all NCAA Division II schools in fewest first downs allowed, 27th in rushing defense, 32nd in total defense, 36th in scoring defense and 38th in sacks. His coaching career began as the defensive line coach and video coordinator at Marietta College during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Mitchell was a four-year starter at Allegheny (Pa.) College from 2007-10. He was part of a defense that finished fourth nationally in rushing defense as a senior. His 34 tackles and four sacks earned all-conference second-team accolades after his final campaign. Mitchell graduated from Allegheny College in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He later earned a master’s degree in strategic leadership from the University of Charleston in 2014. JACK ABERCROMBIE - OFFENSIVE LINE | EQUIPMENT MANAGER Abercrombie begins his second season at Gannon in 2017, serving as the offensive line coach and equipment manager. He brings with him NCAA Personal Data Division II coaching experience at the University of Findlay and California Hometown: Horsham, Pa. (Pa.). College Education: California (Pa.) ’15 The Horsham, Pa., native began his collegiate coaching career as the interim offensive line coach at California (Pa.) during the spring of 2015. His primary responsibilities with the Vulcans were evaluating, teaching and mentoring the offensive line and tight end positions. Abercrombie proceeded to the University of Findlay where he served as an assistant defensive line coach last season. The Oilers finished 6-5 overall while Abercrombie worked primarily with the defensive line. He also served as an assistant football coach and assistant strength coach at Ringgold (Pa.) High School during the spring of 2013. A four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain during his collegiate playing days at California (Pa.), Abercrombie received the Division II Rimington Award presented to the premier centers in the FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA divisions. He earned preseason and postseason all-america accolades from D2Football.com and the Don Hansen Football Gazette. Other postseason honors included three All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors, two Capital One Academic All-District selections, two Daktronics All-Region awards and two Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region honors. Abercrombie became a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award as a senior, an honor reserved for the best lineman in the country. After being a member of an NCAA Tournament participant and NCAA Division II top-five team, Abercrombie received tryouts from the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). Abercrombie graduated cum laude from California (Pa.) in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in middle level educational services. He was a member of the Dean’s List, Athletics Director Honor Roll and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a Vulcan. ZACH MOREHEAD - OFFENSIVE TACKLES AND TIGHT ENDS COACH Morehead serves as an offensive tackle and tight end coach during his first season on the Gannon coaching staff in 2017. He came to Gannon Personal Data after a standout collegiate career at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Hometown: Canal Winchester, Ohio (PSAC) rival California (Pa.). College Education: California (Pa.) ’17 The Canal Winchester, Ohio, native was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Vulcans. Morehead started 10 games at left guard as a sophomore, 11 contests at left tackle as a junior and 12 games at right guard as a senior. He helped California (Pa.) produce a 34-10 record during his playing days. Morehead was also part of a PSAC Championship and NCAA Tournament victory as a senior last year. A PSAC Scholar-Athlete in 2013, he was named to the California (Pa.) Athletics Director Honor Roll every year. Morehead graduated from California (Pa.) in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and minor in business. He comes to Gannon after Personal Data serving as the cornerbacks coach at NCAA Division III MacMurray College Hometown: Greenacres, Fla. in Jacksonville, Illinois last season. Marlow was also the community relations College Education: Saint Vincent ’13 manager and facilities manager for the Highlanders. The Greenacres, Fla., native was a four-year letterwinner (2008-11) at Saint Vincent (Pa.) College during his playing days. Marlow began his collegiate career as a tailback for two seasons. He led the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) in rushing yards per carry (7.8) as a freshman. Marlow produced 703 all-purpose yards and accounted for six touchdowns. He also set a program record with a 93-yard touchdown run against Waynesburg. As a result, he was named offensive MVP by his teammates and earned all-conference accolades. After suffering a season-ending injury as a sophomore, Marlow concluded his collegiate career at defensive back as a junior and wide receiver as a senior. His career resume included 127 carries, 627 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 41 receptions, 545 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. He finished second all-time at Saint Vincent in rushing touchdowns, all-purpose yards (1,511) and total touchdowns (10). Marlow remained at Saint Vincent and served as an offensive intern on the coaching staff for one year following his playing days. He graduated from Saint Vincent in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communication.

NATHAN ADAMS - DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT Adams begins his first season as a defensive assistant at Gannon in 2017. He is no stranger to Golden Knight fans after transferring to Gannon for his senior Personal Data season last year, finishing fourth on the team with 73 tackles. Adams recorded Hometown: Crozier, Va. 11 tackles for a loss (41 yards), three sacks (28 yards), one interception (16 College Education: Gannon ’17 yards), one blocked kick, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a starting linebacker. His 73 tackles included 31 via the solo variety and 42 assisted. Adam produced at least six tackles eight times in 11 games, including a season-high 10 at Slippery Rock. The Crozier, Va., native came to Gannon after playing three years at NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan of the Mid- American Conference (MAC). Adams played in 34 career games for the Eagles. He recorded 36 tackles, four tackles for a loss and two sacks as a junior. The apex came with a season-high 10 tackles against LSU. Adams graduated from Gannon in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise science.

ALL OPPONENTS AT Gannon opened the stadium with a 5-1 record during its first season at Gannon University Field in 2001. Gannon missed a field goal as time expired and dropped a one- GANNON UNIV. Edinboro (Pa.) 2-3 Prior to the 2001 season, the Golden Knights had called Erie Veterans Memorial Ferris State 0-1 Stadium home for 14 years. Erie’s local sports teams have been using Erie Vets Stadium for Findlay, University of 1-1 77 years since it opened in 1934.
