NEWS To contact: [email protected] Inform yourself about the upcoming election MSG Executive Board elections are Wednesday and Thursday, and the only contested seat is for the offi ce of treasurer. Both Ryan Palm and Megan Flanagan are running for the offi ce and each will bring something different to the MSG table for the 2005-06 school year. Check out what they have to say to make an informed decision this week.

Treasurer Candidates Square Off

What makes you qualifi ed to be the treasurer? I have a great amount of experience with MSG, as I served as freshman rep in 2003-04, winning the Freshman Representative of Year award. I have served as Secretary on the Executive Board of Student Government for the past year. This experience is monumental, as I have a great knowledge of items such as club funding, philanthropy, the FTE process, and the relationship the MSG Treasurer has with the SAC Financial Secretary. I have attended many Budget & Finance Ryan Palm meetings, where the budgets of both MSG & SAC are discussed. Year: Sophomore Do you have any new ideas for MSG during your time as treasurer? Major: History and Intelligence I have a good number of ideas for MSG in the upcoming year. Some ideas I have are possible extended hours at various campus facilities such as the Ham- Studies mermill Library or the REC Center, possibly updating some of the features of the Hometown: Ashtabula,: Go withOhio Student Union and continuation of working on development of the open space near the Parade Street entrance. Campaign Slogan Experience Why should the student body give you their vote this week? The student body should give me their vote because I feel I am the most prepared candidate to handle the position’s tremendous responsibilities. The handling of several hundred thousand dollars is no easy task, and it requires a great deal of knowledge and understanding of not only the budget itself, but also exactly why Megan Flanagan things are done the way they are, especially in matters pertaining to the Student Activities Committee. Year: Sophomore Major: Intelligence with Russian Studies Minor Hometown: Penn Yan, N.Y. What makes you qualifi ed to be the treasurer? : Flanagan for I am currently a sophomore representative and residence life committee chair. Campaign Slogan In the past I have worked on the ad hoc food committee, I was PR co-chair for Treasurer Spring Fest 2004 and I was co-chair of the winter formal this year. I have had a lot of experience with student government during the past two years.

Do you have any new ideas for MSG during your time as treasurer? My main idea for next year is to reconstruct the budget to contain three separate and equal club funding categories for each term of our trimester system. Each term will have a set amount of club funding available for the clubs on campus. Don’t forget to vote This way clubs at the end of the year will be able to have the same opportunities for funding as the clubs had in the beginning of the year. in the Union from Why should the student body give you their vote this week? The position of treasurer is very important to me and I guarantee that I will put 10-5 on Wednesday forth all my effort to be a successful addition to the executive board. Give me the chance to be your new student government treasurer. You won’t regret it! and Thursday.
