21 JOHN WITTMANN Directors’ Academy Sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America John Wittmann is the Director of Education and Artist Relations for the Band and Orchestral Division of Yamaha Corporation of America. He is responsible for organizing the support for over 1000 woodwind, brass, string, percussion and drumset artists as well as running educational programs such as The Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. Wittmann has also served as Manager of the Percussion Department and produced the Living Legends Video Series for Yamaha. Wittmann holds a Bachelors and a Master of Arts Degree in Music Education concentrating in conducting, percussion and 20th Century composition. He has toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad and remains an active performer/clinician. He has lectured on career development in the music industry at various universities and conventions and is the 2007 recipient of the Percussive Arts Society’s President’s Industry Award. Previously, John has also taught in Indiana and New York. He was awarded Teacher of the Year at Waterford-Halfmoon High School and was recently named a Distinguished Alumni from the College of St. Rose. Wittmann is active in music ministry, serves on The Percussive Arts Society Board of Directors and The Dolce Suono Advisory Board, and is also active on the Support Music Coalition.

22 Directors Track Assistants The individuals who serve as Directors Teaching Assistants are active and successful music educators and professionals. They volunteer their service at the Music for All Summer Symposium, paying their own way in order to share their time and expertise to make sure that the Directors’ Academy sessions run smoothly and efficiently. They serve as a shining example of the spirit of volunteerism that is also exhibited by the SWAG Team who serve the camp students.
