3 3 @PooleTownFC www.pooletownfc.co.uk POOLE TOWN FC TOM TALKS Evening All,

Today we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Tiverton Town FC to the Black Gold for another league fixture. The away match, only a few weeks ago, was a closely fought encounter which we ended up winning 2-0. Tiverton are always well organised and combative and I am sure that that will be the case again tonight.

The last 7 days have been good for us including a strong performance last Tuesday against Walton Casuals which resulted in a 3-1 victory. I thought we were impressive on the night and created a number of chances, particularly in the first half when the players had to deal with the stigma of conceding a goal during a spell when we had created a huge number of chances. I thought we responded really well to that disappointment and we On the injury front it was a concern to lose managed to get an equaliser just before half James Constable to a hamstring strain against time. In the second half I thought we were Walton Casuals. We are hoping it’s not too much the stronger team and were deserved serious and although it’s unlikely he will be winners in the end. Special mention to young back tonight we are hopeful he may be able Jake Scrimshaw who came off the bench early to be involved on Saturday. Luke Roberts has on and was impressive throughout, I also jarred his knee again against Walton Casuals think his strike partner Sam House deserves and couldn’t play against Swindon. We are a mention because his performances have hoping he might be back tonight but at the been really good since he has been back in time of preparing these notes that is very the side. much in the balance. Luke’s recent form has been exceptional and we need him back in On Saturday we travelled to Swindon the team sooner rather than later. Supermarine. Swindon are a good side I think the players deserve an awful lot of particularly from an attacking perspective. credit for their recent performances and Again we were behind to a goal that was results. I think this is particularly the case very frustrating to concede. However, in bearing in mind the amount of games they the second half we dominated possession have had to play. I looked at our schedule created a number of chances and managed and since we played our visitors away on to get our reward with a late equaliser, again 12th January we’ve played 7 matches whilst through Jake Scrimshaw. Anyone who was at our opponents have only played 2. This gives the game would know that the draw was the you an idea of the effort that the players have minimum we deserved. In the second half had to put in. Bearing in mind the way and Swindon Supermarine barely had a chance the intensity of our style of play I think it’s whereas we had countless opportunities; the hugely impressive that they have managed to players are playing with a lot more confidence produce the level of performances that they of late and that makes a big difference. have. 4 POOLE TOWN FC @PooleTownFC www.pooletownfc.co.uk TOM TALKS Our run of results has got us into the playoff any more postponements). I think this will be position. However, there are clubs around us a real benefit for us because we have a small with games in hand and we badly need to win squad and it gives us time between games tonight. If we can do that and back it up with to recover. Also it reduces the prospect of a result against Frome on Saturday then we injuries. have given ourselves a really good platform going into the later stages of the season. We feel we’re finally picking up some momentum as a team, confidence is starting to build and that’s great to see, but it’s absolutely vital we don’t take our foot off the gas and that we keep this ball rolling.

We, as a team know what standards we’re capable of and we’re still wanting more. I’m ignoring the league table, I know that if we do what we’re capable of game to game, the table will take care of itself.

So tonight we have to go one better than Saturday and get the win. We feel we deserved more than a point at Swindon and that we let them off the hook a little, so tonight we want all 3 points!

Get behind the boys tonight, I’d like to think the whole club has now been given a little lift, together let’s move forward!

Evening All, Welcome to today’s game and to our visitors from Tiverton. We wish you a safe journey home. I will always have a place in my heart for Tiverton because, in the mid-1980s, I was a student in Exeter and began preaching occasionally at small rural chapels on the Tiverton Methodist Circuit. Every February at St John’s, we have a series of services looking at aspects of stewardship. Over the last two weeks, we have thought about being stewards of the natural world and stewards of the money and resources which come our way. Anyone with a passing acquaintance with the issues of our day knows that these are big concerns for today. As a former economist (I worked for 7 years in international development), my ears usually prick up at news reports of latest figures on the economy, for example figures for economic growth. Sometimes I wonder at the values which underpin so much of our economic activity. At times most of us (I think I did) pursue growth as if it were an end in itself, but wise observers occasionally note that this is a bit like eating as if the aim were just to get fatter, as opposed to eating in order to receive nourishment. Jesus had plenty to say about money - not so much about the stuff itself but plenty about how the ways we use it reveal our priorities and attitudes. He taught about money more than love, relationships, sex, work etc. The gospel writer Luke recorded many of these episodes in Jesus’ life. Jesus taught that we should be rich towards God and generous to other people, which is sometimes a far cry from our natural, more selfish, inclinations. I hope that you will bear in mind the things that matter most as you spend and save, and know the freedom and contentment of using money in line with your values. Wishing you God’s best,

We signed him from Dorchester in January 2012 paying a four figure fee for his services - something pretty much unheard of these days. To say it has been money well spent is an understatement.

He has provided our supporters with so much pleasure over the years. As all Poole fans know Steve has torn a cruciate ligament - the injury all footballers dread due to its devastating impact on life and one’s ability to work let alone playing football.

The club has authorised a crowd funding page for supporters to show Steve their support for him and his family at this very difficult time.
