Trees or tree-like plants are defined here broadly as perennial, self-supporting plants with a total height of at least 5 m (without ascending leaves or inflorescences), and with one or several erect stems with a diameter of at least 10 cm. We continue our compilation of an updated list of all native Mexican tree species with the dicotyledonous families Asteraceae (36 species, 39% endemic), Leguminosae with its 3 subfamilies (449 species, 41% endemic), and Rubiaceae (134 species, 24% endemic). The tallest tree species reach 20 m in the Asteraceae, 70 m in the Leguminosae, and also 70 m in the Rubiaceae. The species-richest genus is Lonchocarpus with 67 tree species in Mexico. Three legume genera are endemic to Mexico (Conzattia, Hesperothamnus, and Heteroflorum). The appendix lists all species, including their original publication, references of taxonomic revisions, existence of subspecies or varieties, maximum height in Mexico, and endemism status. Las plantas arbóreas o arborescentes se definen aquí en un sentido amplio como plantas perennes que se pueden sostener por sí solas, con una altura total de al menos 5 m (sin considerar hojas o inflorescencias ascendentes) y con uno o varios tallos erectos de un diámetro de al menos 10 cm. -

Seigler & Ebinger, Vachellia nilotica (L.) P.J.H. Hurter & Mabb. e Vachellia planifrons (Wight & Arn.) Ragup., Seigler, Ebinger & Maslin. A estrutura observada nas três espécies corresponde ao padrão descrito para o gênero Vachellia Wight & Arn., destacando-se a ausência de fibras septadas. Raios com 6 ou mais células de largura e a presença de cristais com mais de 60µm, aspectos geralmente referidos para o gênero, foram observados em Vachellia nilotica e V. planifrons, mas não em V. collinsii. A ocorrência de parênquima axial abundante, por sua vez, foi registrada para V. planifrons, mas não para V. collinsii e V. nilotica. ABSTRACT [Wood anatomy of three exotic species of genus Vachellia Wight & Arn.]. The woods of Vachellia collinsii (Saff.) Seigler & Ebinger, Vachellia nilotica (L.) P.J.H. Hurter & Mabb., and Vachellia planifrons (Wight & Arn.) Ragup., Seigler, Ebinger & Maslin are anatomically described and illustrated. The structure observed in three species matches the pattern described for genus Vachellia Wight & Arn., highlighting the absence of septate fibers. Rays with 6 or more cells wide and the presence of crystals with more than 60µm, features generally referred to the same genus, were observed in Vachellia nilotica and V. -

Decanato de Agronomía. Universidad Centroccidental “Lisandro Alvarado”. Barquisimeto, Venezuela. [email protected] Resumen Se presenta una lista preliminar de especies vasculares de diferentes localidades de la Sierra de Baragua del estado Lara, Venezuela. La recolección botánica se realizó entre abril 2011 y octubre 2013, las muestras colectadas se trataron siguiendo el proceso tradicional de herborización. Se utilizó el sistema de clasificación APG III. Un total de 42 familias de plantas fueron registradas: 41 de Angiospermas y una familia de Pteridophyta. Las Angiospermas divididas en 37 familias de Eudicotiledóneas y cuatro de Monocotiledóneas, las cuales incluyen 113 y cuatro especies respectivamente. Las familias con mayor número de géneros fueron: Capparaceae con nueve, Fabaceae Mimosoideae y Myrtaceae con siete cada una, Malvaceae con cinco, Cactaceae, Fabaceae Caesalpinioideae, Fabaceae Faboideae y Malpighiaceae con cuatro cada una. Los géneros con mayor número de especies fueron: Cynophallas con cuatro y, Casearia y Eugenia con tres. La continua e inadecuada acción antrópica en la sierra de Baragua aunado el efecto erosivo del agua y la poca cobertura vegetal pondría en riesgo la gran diversidad existente, por lo que su conocimiento juega un papel muy importante ya que proporciona bases para su apropiada preservación. Palabras clave: Recolección botánica, herborización, diversidad, preservación. The most recent monographers of Sapium and related genera (Kruijt 1996; Esser 2002) place our single naturalized species in the genus Triadica, native to Asia; Sapium (excluding Triadica) is a genus of 21 species restricted to the neotropics. This conclusion is corroborated by molecular phylogenetic analysis (Wurdack, Hoffmann, & Chase (2005).
