The Digital Planet 2006 report from the World Information Technology and services Alliance (http://www.witsa.org) states as follows: Indeed, despite the expected peaks and valleys, countries around the globe are finding ICT the indispensable technology for increasing productivity, raising the standard of living, delivering greater educational opportunities, improving healthcare and human services and eliminating barriers to greater participation in world market” (Evaluation of the design and Development of IT Tools in Education, Thomas C. Reeves, Chapter International Handbook of Information Technology in Primary and Secondary Education Volume 20 of the series Springer International Handbook of Information Technology in Primary and Secondary Education pp 1037-1051) As a response to these challenges a monograph has been prepared and the IRNet project has been launched (www.irnet.us.edu.pl) with participating thirty researchers from ten countries. In the framework of Work Package 4 there was conducted research in the scope of selecting and testing new IT tools: social media, selected Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 Massive Open Online Courses, etc.; evaluating synchronous and asynchronous tools, methodologies and good practices; comparing and evaluating LMS (learning management systems), CMS (Contents Management Systems), VSCR (Virtual Synchronous Classrooms), SSA (Screen Share Applications), CSA (Contents Sharing Application), Cloud Computing Environment; identifying and defining profiles of virtual campus, virtual learning environment and virtual synchronous classroom; reviewing and comparing virtual classrooms (VCR) based on hardware equipment against the ones based on PCs; identifying VCRs which better serve the teacher’s or student’s activities; comparing from the technological point of view the best known VCR (PC based) available in the market; analyzing the technological profile that virtual classrooms should have to ensure a good pedagogic result; characterizing methodological and technological aspects of multimodal didactic communication; identifying the general methodological aspects of VCR with a special focus on online tutoring, continuous online evaluation and good practices; testing IT tools in concern with effective developing ICT and e-learning competences as well as in design of intercultural competences. The monograph “IT Tools - Good Practice of Effective Use in Education” includes the best papers, prepared and presented by authors from seven European countries and from more than twenty universities during the scientific conference entitled ”Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Distance Learning”, subtitled: “IT Tools - Good Practice of Effective Use in Education”, which was held between 12- 13 October 2015 at the Faculty of Ethnology and Sciences of Education in Cieszyn, University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. 10 Introduction The speakers were from the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Extremadura University (Spain), UCL Institute of Education in London (United Kingdom), Graal Institute (Portugal), Constantine

Nonetheless, there was a lack of information about making paper by hand in Central and Eastern Europe, as it was highlighted during discussions.1 This paper is aimed at connecting east central and east southern parts of Europe (i.e. without Russia and Nordic countries) to the international stream of development in European hand papermaking before introducing paper-making machines into countries of the discussed region of Europe. To Our Dead: Local Expellee Monuments and the Contestation of German Postwar Memory by Jeffrey P. Luppes A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Germanic Languages and Literatures) in The University of Michigan 2010 Doctoral Committee: Professor Andrei S. Markovits, Chair Professor Geoff Eley Associate Professor Julia C. Hell Associate Professor Johannes von Moltke © Jeffrey P. Luppes 2010 To My Parents ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Writing a dissertation is a long, arduous, and often lonely exercise. Fortunately, I have had unbelievable support from many people. First and foremost, I would like to thank my advisor and dissertation committee chair, Andrei S. Markovits. Andy has played the largest role in my development as a scholar. In fact, his seminal works on German politics, German history, collective memory, anti-Americanism, and sports influenced me intellectually even before I arrived in Ann Arbor. The opportunity to learn from and work with him was the main reason I wanted to attend the University of Michigan. The decision to come here has paid off immeasurably. Andy has always pushed me to do my best and has been a huge inspiration—both professionally and personally—from the start. His motivational skills and dedication to his students are unmatched. Twice, he gave me the opportunity to assist in the teaching of his very popular undergraduate course on sports and society. He was also always quick to provide recommendation letters and signatures for my many fellowship applications. Most importantly, Andy helped me rethink, re-work, and revise this dissertation at a crucial point.

  • The Selected Aspects of Strategic Management in the City Divided By
2019 POLISH JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES Vol.19 No.1 Dacko-Pikiewicz Z. THE SELECTED ASPECTS OF STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT IN THE CITY DIVIDED BY THE BORDER IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CROSS-BORDER MARKET OF CULTURAL SERVICES Dacko-Pikiewicz Z. * Abstract: The article is of research nature. The analysis of strategic documents of the city of Cieszyn-Český Těšín divided by the state border, as well as individual in-depth interviews with the directors of all local government cultural institutions in this city allowed for the identification of opportunities for further development of the common Polish-Czech cross-border market of cultural services. The research conducted proves that despite the dynamically developing Polish-Czech cross-border cooperation in the field of culture, there are still no mentions in the strategic documents pointing directly to the need to intensify common Polish-Czech cultural activities, and thus indicating the need to develop the cross-border market of cultural services. Therefore, by following the interview results, actions in the area of strategic management were specified, which could significantly contribute to the so-called "blurring of the border" and the development of this market in the city of Cieszyn-Český Těšín. The recommendations may be useful not only for the authorities of the city of Cieszyn-Český Těšín, but also for decision-makers and cultural managers of other European cities in the Schengen area that are divided by the state border. Key words: city divided by the border, cross-border market of cultural services, development, strategic management, Cieszyn-Český Těšín DOI: 10.17512/pjms.2019.19.1.10 Article history: Received January 20, 2019; Revised March 12, 2019; Accepted March 20, 2019 Introduction The management of the city which has been divided by the state border is a complicated process, which requires interdisciplinary knowledge of many diverse issues, based, among others, on culture, economics, spatial management, environmental protection or different two independent states.

The two institutions have greatly contributed to the development of Polish studies including dialectology. The presented information pertains chiefly to the relatively unknown accomplishments of the dialectology team, for example a phonographic archive containing recordings of utterances of informants born in the second half of the 19th century (the oldest interlocutor was born in 1855). Together with contemporary recordings, the collection contains approximately 3,700 hours of rural speech. The entire archive is available in a digital version. The text is supplemented with information about the history of Poznań dialectology and the contemporary activities of the team of the Dialectology Workshop at the Poznań University, mainly lexicographic works. Key words: history of dialectology in Poznań, Polish studies at the AMU, Poznań Society for the Advancement of Arts and Sciences, lexicography of Wielkopolska dialects. Abstrakt: Sto lat dialektologii w Poznaniu. W artykule przedstawione są najważniejsze informacje dotyczące historii badań dialektologicznych w Poznaniu. Podano też istotne dane, szkicując kontekst tych działań – działalność naukowa Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego ściśle powiązana jest z Poznańskim To- wa rzystwem Przyjaciół Nauk. Te dwie instytucje naukowe mają wielkie zasługi w rozwoju studiów polonistycznych, a w tym dialektologii.
