FATIMA ROSARY—MAY 13, 7 PM Sunday the 13th of May 1917. Lucia, age 10, Jacinta, age 7, and Francisco, age almost 9 were pasturing their flock on the hills of Sierra de Aire, in the Parish of Fatima, . A brilliant light flashed before them. A Lady all dressed in white appeared before them on a small holm-oak. The beautiful lady age about 18, held her hands in front of her heart with a Rosary of white beads in her right hand. “Be not afraid, I will do you no harm,” she said. “I am from Heaven. I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at the same hour. Later on I will tell you who I am and what I want.”

Once again Legion of Mary invites all Parishioners to come to the same place at the same hour on the 13th day of each month for the next 6 months to keep the same promise made by the three shepherd children, 102 years ago. Please join us in honoring that promise on Monday evening, May 13th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel, with Exposition and Benediction.

VOCATIONS COMMITTEE Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter—Good Shepherd Sunday, our Catholic Church celebrates the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. As Pope Francis following the World Youth Day in Panama:

“In encountering the Lord, some young people may feel the attraction of a call to the consecrated life or to the ordained priesthood. It is a discovery that can excite and at the same time frighten us, since we feel called to become “fishers of men” in the barque of the Church by giving totally of ourselves in commitment to faithful service of the Gospel and our brothers and sisters. Such a decision carries the risk of leaving everything behind to follow the Lord, to devote ourselves completely to him, and to share in his work… And yet, there can be no greater joy than to risk one’s life for the Lord! I would like to say this especially to you, the young.”

The Melchizedek Project is starting this Tuesday evening at St. John’s! If you’re a young man in high school, consider becoming part of this dynamic group of vocations discerners. For more information, contact the Parish Office at 208-342-3511.

LIFELONG CONVERSION SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 23RD CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION We’re presently featuring elements of the “Liturgical Life” of the Catholic Church. Over the coming weeks we’ll continue to feature related elements, but at this time we’re sending out a “save the date” notice for our Parish/Diocese liturgical life event that will culminate our current Station of Lifelong Conversion: a Corpus Christi procession following the 11:30AM mass and before the Hispanic mass. One of the Catholic doctrines that Protestant reformers [c. 16th century] challenged included what came to be labeled “transubstantiation.” Transubstantiation is also known as the doctrine of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This was not the first time that this doctrine produced a degree of controversy, but Protestant critics re-ignited the controversy, and this issue became a key element of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. The Council of Trent (concluded in 1563) sought to address this challenge and declared that "at the heart of the Eucharistic celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ's Body and Blood." Consequently, the Catholic celebration of Corpus Christi became a way of not only reaffirming Christianity generally, but more precisely Roman Catholicism. A defining characteristic of the celebration is the procession when the consecrated host is placed in a special vessel and paraded through the streets of the town as the townspeople join in adoration of the "Body of Christ." Distinct from other religious rituals of penance or imploring, from its inception the festival of Corpus emphasized adoration and exaltation. The Papal decree requested that the faithful set this day aside as a celebration. Each community responded in unique fashion, adopting its own local customs and traditions. Following that tradition, we’ll be processing that Sunday afternoon. Look for more updates as we get closer. THIS WEEK’S FORMED FEATURE This is a great online resource for enriching your Catholic faith, and it’s free access for parishioners when you use the parish code 82F2DN when you register.

WELCOME TO YOUR ROMAN CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL PARISH OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST Our parish was founded in 1876, and we became the Cathedral for the Diocese of Boise in 1885. And like every church, we are tasked with helping to “build the Kingdom of God.” First and foremost it’s about deepening our relationships with Christ, His Church, and our St. John’s parish community. Accordingly we’re committed to do some things to help our parishioners continue to grow their spirituality on a continuous basis. We Catholic’s get stations: literally with the Stations of the Cross. But our Church makes use of various repeating cycles such as the liturgical calendar to help remind us to keep our focus on the things that really matter. We invite you to join us in what we call the “Stations of Lifelong Conversion” wherein every three months we move to another key dimension of faith formation as defined by the U.S. Catholic Bishops. Presently we’re in the station of “Liturgical Life” which is about reminding us to further explore the rich liturgical life of the Church. We pray that Christ will grant you—and our parish faith community—the fortitude to continue our lifelong conversion! We’re happy to have you here at YOUR Cathedral: you belong here! ST.
