Clarire Charlton Parish Reader

It was as I was reading St Paul’s letter to the Galatians that I wondered what St Paul would have made of the increasing trend for ‘safe spaces’. Now, those of you who have read Galatians may know that Paul is not happy with the churches in Galatia – in fact it’s his only letter which doesn’t start with a thanksgiving but launches almost immediately into reading the Riot Act! And as you can see from the graph opposite, he has quite a lot to get off his chest as far as the Galatians are concerned.

Throughout the letter, Paul is anxious that the churches in Galatia should grow in their life in Christ and dependence on God’s grace through the working of the Spirit. He addresses what he has discerned as threats to “the truth of the gospel” (Gal 2:5, 14) and tackles them head-on. Growing closer to Christ is the most important thing and anything that detracts from this purpose must be challenged. Load-In Week So, that brings me back to ‘safe spaces’. Safe spaces Helpers needed are areas where those who feel marginalised can come together to communicate regarding their Creation Fest Load-in Week experiences of marginalisation. Any views or 30th July - 3rd August expressions which may make the group feel uneasy or unsafe are prohibited. The problem is that in The CF team have order to learn and grow, particularly to grow in someone overlooking the faith, we sometimes need to see things from a kitchens for load-in week different perspective. It may mean that we have to but they will still need a ask difficult questions, face challenges or listen to a support team to help with point of view different from our own. Seeking ‘safe prep, service, and cleaning. space’ might make it difficult to find ‘sacred space’. Would you be willing to join the team? Then and Now Weekend

A Story of Change Exhibition This was the third exhibition of old photographs collected 4th to 7th May by the Egloshayle Heritage Group that we have displayed in the church and though we cut back on quantity, there Angela Richards was still plenty to see, plus the Wadebridge Camera Club Rosemary Meanwell providing the 'Now' part of the exhibition and Andrew Christine Pearn Langdon lending his display about the Bridge. A steady Jenny Treadwell number of people visited on Saturday and Sunday, but on Monday there was a real crowd of visitors all day. Comments were very favourable, and it was clear that £500 raised for everyone found something interesting to see and some chancel and choir stayed several hours. refurbishment Though the audience was small for the Friday concert with Wadebridge Town Band and the Washaway Gallery Choir, everyone who came said how much they enjoyed it, and for those who missed this treat - especially the rendition of the 1812 Overture with audience participation - ask Sue Priestley for details! We are grateful to Peter Meanwell for organising this concert. The audience for the film show was again select, but nevertheless appreciative. The 1995 carnival and the display, plus explanation, of Cornish ‘wrastling’ were absorbing, and the ‘Then and Now’ slide- show a very professional compilation, worth showing again we think. We are very grateful to Stewart Privett and the Camera Club for their hard work in editing and compiling such a varied programme.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us, and all who supported the exhibition: a heartfelt thank you to Bernard Irons for your hard work in putting out and taking down the tables; to Shirley Angove for helping Christine with the refreshments - you were invaluable. Thanks also go to all who brought contributions: those who brought cakes, Nicola Wills whose delicious pie was gone in no time, Mary Eustace whose sausage rolls were a great hit and Julie Henning who so kindly brought in a bottle of prosecco when the raffle prizes looked rather forlorn! And we must thank Rev’d John and Janet for providing the fruit cup for the concert, and choc ices for the film evening, not forgetting Claire Charlton who lent her freezer. FESTIVAL TIME

Wadebridge Outdoor Worship

SUMMER IS COMING The warm weather recently has reminded us that summer is coming, a season for festivals aWnda dcelberbirdagtieo nO.u Ltodcoaolrly W woer ssthari tp with the Royal Cornwall Show in which many of us are involved. We then have the big lunch on 24th June. These are both occasions for us as church members to be involved with the local community. Sometimes we also need to step aside and recharge our batteries.

For many years Janet and I have done this through attending New Wine, a big Christian convention held at the Bath and West showground in Shepton Mallet. A similar event on a smaller scale happens on our doorstep here with Creation Fest. A great opportunity to have a taste of what such an event involves – Bible teaching, worship, resources and much more.

Towards the end of August we have the Folk Festival which runs at the same time as our Craft Fayre. This year we are delighted to be hosting 2 concerts on the Thurs and Friday evenings at Egloshayle church as well as more impromptu performances.

All of these festivals and celebrations give us a chance to enjoy life to the full in deep gratitude to God for all His goodness to us. Accommodation for Creation Fest Could you help with accommodation for this year's Creation Fest (4th - 10th August) and help keep the festival free? We are looking for local people with a spare room, a holiday cottage, caravan or rental property, who would consider hosting a musician, band or speaker. Or even if you have a whole house and would consider moving out for the week, or are planning on camping at the festival and would let Creation Fest use your house, please get in touch. Last year, we collectively provided 205 nights of accommodation to 86 individual people, that made up 23 visiting bands and speakers, over a total of 11 nights, before, during and after Creation Fest. This year, we will inevitably be aiming to do the same and then some, enabling Creation Fest to continue to be free to everyone that wants to come and hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
