Dec 31, 2012 00:00 GMT Samantha Bond joins cast of BT flatmates adverts new character in sitcom style ads to promote YouView from BT

The next instalment in BT’s TV advertising campaign will hit screens on January 2 and introduce a new character, Simon’s Mum played by former , Samantha Bond. More recently known for her roles as Auntie Angela in the BBC comedy Outnumbered and as Lady Rosamund Painswick in , Samantha will return from holiday and unexpectedly turn up at Flat 6. The latest episode in the lives of the BT flatmates will see Simon played by BAFTA winner, Daniel Rigby reluctantly letting his mum in and hoping that it is a flying visit. Trying to avoid a grilling about his personal life from his mother, viewers will see Simon nervously trying to distract her with his new YouView box.

Simon will demonstrate how YouView from BT not only offers lots of channels, the most on demand telly including HD movies, but also allows you to scroll back through loads of shows over the past 7 days of catch up. The great demonstration inadvertently gives Simon’s mum an excuse to settle in and catch up on the soaps she missed whilst she was away. Unfortunately for Simon just as his Mum is about to start catching a programme, his flatmate Anna, played by TV and film actress Rebecca Night, emerges from the shower with a just towel wrapped around her leading to some confusion and embarrassment!

David James, marketing director for Consumer, BT Retail, said: “It’s great to have Samantha Bond join the cast of the BT flatmates in our new YouView ad. The characters in the adverts have gathered a real following with people wanting to know what happens next. The characters really allow us to demonstrate how our products and services enhance daily life.”

The ad will be screened during a number of shows including One Born Every Minute on Channel 4 on the evening of 2nd January and Celebrity Big Brother on Channel Five on the evening 3rd January. The campaign will be supported by outdoor, press and online advertising from 2nd January and was developed by AMV BBDO.
