BTU Executive Board Minutes Meeting Minutes February 13, 2020

I. Call to Order a. Meeting called to order by President Brown at 6 pm.

II. Roll Call a. Roll call was taken and a quorum for each chapter was established.

III. Minutes a. Friendly amendments were offered to correct minutes to reflect that Antonio Mason was present for the January Executive Board meeting. Also a friendly amendment to correct a typo - page one, “closed.” b. Harry Preston moved and Zach Taylor seconded to approve the executive session minutes. Motion carried. c. Kimberly Mooney moved and Cristina Duncan Evans seconded to approve the open session minutes as amended. Motion carried. d. Shawn McKay and others suggested that future executive session minutes could be marked with a watermark to provide an easily identifiable distinction between executive session minutes and regular session minutes.

IV. President’s Report ● Tiffany McAllister was introduced as the new BTU Office Manager. ● Membership report was given, near record high of teacher members (almost 95%) and Field Rep along with other staff continue to collect membership cards and use the online sign-up. ● Update on school visits, nearly every school has been visited. Will complete before the end of the year. ● Issue of substitutes, beginning to more systematically collect data to have a stronger case when teacher negotiations begin. ● Brief update on PSRP negotiations.

V. New Business a. Angela Campbell motioned that the Executive Board enters Executive Sessions, Kimberly Mooney seconded. Motion carried.

b. Angela Campbell moved to re-enter open session, seconded by Zach Taylor. Motion carried.

c. Kimberly Mooney motioned to remove committee reports from the agenda and have Executive Board members read the reports individually. Brittany Johnstone seconded. Motion carried.

d. Maryland General Assembly Legislative Review (information and feedback only) i. Kirwan / Blueprint to Maryland’s Future overview of recent amendments and committee presentations 1. Corey Gaber presented on how teacher-centered the legislation is and how BTU is attempting to amend the legislation to increase pay for PSRPs as well. a. Working with former BTU member Delegate Jared Solomon.

e. Maryland Workforce Alliance Resolution (see hard copy) i. Cristina Duncan Evans motioned to adopt the resolution, seconded by Zach Taylor. Motion carried.

f. Member Engagement Turnout Calls (information and feedback only) i. Cristina Duncan Evan presented on having BTU Executive Board members spending one hour per month phone banking to promote turnout to events and engagement with membership. ii. Ideas of sentence starters and scripts were offered.

VI. Zach Taylor motioned to adjourn, Corey Gaber seconded. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:32pm.
