Don Saxton’s quick hit “The varsity volleyball coach, Murray Hill, bugged me a few times when I played co-ed in the university rec leagues, telling me that I had the body of a volleyball player, while subtly reinforcing the fact that I was too weak and skinny to ever be a great Huskie basketball player. Took me about three months to figure out that he was absolutely correct. So big thanks to him for steering me in the right direction and always reminding me that sports are supposed to be fun. “Thanks also to the veterans on the Huskie volleyball team who didn’t all quit when Murray, surprisingly, kept me at the 1976 tryouts. “I give credit to all of those Huskie teammates in my first year for their patience when I had troubles putting a serve or a spike in the court, but I could always block and thank goodness for that. “Thanks to my first setter, Shoe, [Grant Gudmundson] for putting up with me and seeing the potential in a teammate and experimenting with floating stuff and moving sets and Note that Tom Graham received from Todd Zazelenchuk being willing to try new things and for being the second best blocker in the CIS [Canadian Interuniversity Sport).
