Since time immemorial, art has existed as long as man has. It is a huge part of our culture, which shapes our ideas, and vice versa, and provides us with a deeper understanding of emotions, self-awareness, and more. Many people fail to realize how art impacts their daily life. Everyone uses art on a continual basis. Why is art important in our daily lives? Because we are surrounded by art, and without it, the human race will not be On Art and Life you know it. Arguably, almost everyone has some form of art in their home—a painting, a framed photograph, a table centerpiece, and even the main layout and design of a house is art. Art On Art and Life not purely for looking at and admiring, a lot of it is functional too, especially when it comes to our On Art and Life. Everything from a delightfully patterned quilt on the bed or even your decorative tea towels and teacups can be considered a form of art. Music, same as art, is a universal language and its importance to our daily lives is undeniable. Subconsciously, we hear music through television shows, commercials, radio and through other media. Sounds, songs and music can On Art and Life life extremely joyful and can have a huge effect on On Art and Life mood. Similarly, when stress is high, many people find that relaxing to calming music is something that eases the mind. Art, in any form, can give people emotions that can lift up their spirit and make them more driven than ever. One of the most common trends in the tourism industry is hospitality art, which utilizes art to invite guests and engage them more throughout their stay. Corporate art inspires workers and boosts productivity using art inside the workplace. Hospital art, or healing art is also one way of helping patients recover faster and their family and healthcare workers to regain their composure and stay calm. Art is everywhere, influencing us on a daily basis, whether On Art and Life realize it or not. And this is the mere reason why art is important in our daily lives. People think that science and technology are superior to art. But art makes life worthwhile. It may not be vital to fulfill our basic needs, but it does make life joyful. As we continue On Art and Life journey of a fast-paced life with moments of quick decisions and fragmented thoughts, art allows every moment to be memorable. Every day I seem to learn something new and get inspired by the photos and quotes that cross my news feed. So pay attention to poetry. Pay attention to music. Pay attention to paintings and sculptures and photo exhibits and ballets and plays. Your world is shouting out to you, revealing something intrinsically glorious about itself. Listen carefully. Love On Art and Life, the way On Art and Life loves life. Read it again! Read it everyday! I admit, there are On Art and Life I question why I keep producing drawing after drawing, painting after painting. I do most of my work for two reasons. I simply must create every day. As crazy as that seems, think about it. All of our homes and buildings were first ideas, conjured up through creative thinking. Anything that has been built by man is an artistic creation, based on the imagination of the human mind. We would have no books, and therefore no structured education. Without On Art and Life, we would have no musical expression such as songs and dancing. Without art, nothing would be decorative, and all would seem the same. Nature provided the world its first form of fine art. The beauty of nature, with its glowing colors, magnificent sunsets and magical sounds, is what triggered the creative, artistic side of man. Everything we do is a mere reflection of the life around us. Each song and melody we perform is an extension of the songs birds gift On Art and Life with each morning. Every color that the flowers and leaves provide is an inspiration for us On Art and Life build on and replicate in our hand made things. Ask yourself, are you really seeing the things around On Art and Life Are you absorbing the colors and shapes of the world around you? Are you hearing the sounds of nature, or the music all around us? Remember as you go through the day how important art is. Art is what makes us human beings special. The need to make things is what gives us goals. Art is what gives us comparisons and variations in this life. Pay attention. Art is US. Lee Hammond has been called the Queen of Drawing. That may not be fair these days, since in addition to providing the best drawing lessons, she has also created fantastic books and videos filled with the same easy to follow acrylic painting techniques, colored pencil techniques and more. Brown As we approached the vicinity of the tent we heard the wailing voices, dominated by church women, singing old Jamaican spirituals. The heart beat riddim of the drums pulsed and reverberated, giving life to the chorus. “Alleluia!” “Praise God!” Indecipherable glossolalia punctu- ated the emphatic praise. The sounds were foreboding. Even at eleven years old, I held firmly to the disciplining of my body that my Catholic primary school so carefully cultivated. As people around me praised God and yelled obscenely in unknown tongues, giving their bodies over to the spirit in ecstatic dancing, marching, and rolling, it was imperative that I remained in control of my body. • Prejudice and Homophobic Violence in Jamaica
FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER HUMAN RIGHTS F ALL:2004 WHAT HAPPENED TO “ONE LOVE”? PREJUDICE AND HOMOPHOBIC VIOLENCE IN JAMAICA In May 2004, Amnesty International issued a report documenting a serious pattern of homophobic violence in Jamaica. The violence ranges from vigilante attacks to torture and ill-treatment by police. And there appears to be little or no accountability for these human rights abuses. Exhortations to kill and maim lesbian and gay people can even be found in the lyrics of a number of popular Jamaican dancehall artists, such as Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Buju Banton—a radical departure from Reggae’s musical tradition of preaching “one love” and social justice. Amnesty has called on the Jamaican government to institute law reform and other steps to protect the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Jamaicans from discrimination and violence. The brutal murder in June of Brian Williamson, prominent gay activist and a founding member of J-FLAG (Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals & Gays), and the recent campaign by some LGBT activists calling for the boycott of those Jamaican Reggae stars spouting hate lyrics ignited intense public debate and media interest. In this issue, we talk to the program manager of J-FLAG about the situation for the LGBT community in Jamaica, and what he thinks can be done to address discrimination and violence against LGBT people. We are withholding the name of our interviewee to honor his request to remain anonymous due to fear for his own safety. UTfront: Give us a sense of the conditions of LGBT rights in Jamaica.

  • Dossier Sur L'homophobie Dans Le Dancehall
