    2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.

SÉBASTIEN OGIER/JULIEN INGRASSIA “I tried but I’m afraid like often in the second loop it will improve [behind] because there’s quite a lot of loose. But, also, I struggled with tyres, my tyre was really destroyed at the end now and it’s going to be a difficult loop with tyres I think.” Car #33. ELFYN EVANS/SCOTT MARTIN “Very, very difficult. The grip at the end was so, so low, I had nothing at all. It was tricky.” Car #11. THIERRY NEUVILLE/MARTIJN WYDAEGHE “Maybe I did a little bit too much on the tyres, I have to check now. I felt them going suddenly and we didn’t experience that at all in the testing. I don’t know if I did too much, I tried to manage but we have to have a look now for the next stages.” Car #69. This stage was not so much on gravel but the front tyres are really worn out and in a really bad condition.     The Loudon-clear guide to… Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse This event conjures so many evocative and emotional memories: a Bernard Darniche-driven Lancia Stratos, incredible French dominance, Petter Solberg’s unforgettable zero to hero fightback win in 2003 and, of course, Sébastien Loeb’s perfect rally to win every single stage two years later. The Tour de Corse is a special rally with a special place in the history of the World Rally Championship. And the good news is that this week’s event goes a long way to really recreating what the original events were all about; this week is a real tour of Corsica including mileage from top to bottom of this beautiful island. Granted, a round-island itinerary sets France’s round of the championship aside from its fellow WRC qualifiers, but it’s great to have a bit of variety, not to mention a huge challenge to the crews competing. And, for the first time, I’m delighted to say that includes me. I’m co-driving Mohamed Al Mutawaa in an Abu Dhabi Racing Citroën DS 3 R3T. We tested together for the first time in France last week and everything went well – it’s fair to say we’re both very excited about getting into those 10,000 corners. One thing everybody’s hoping for this week is good weather; you really had to feel for the organisers last year, with so much rain falling in the run-up to the rally. And 75 minutes later, they’re handed back a hunkered-down Tar-snorting racer. Just in time for the weekend… I won’t be around in Catalunya, which is a real shame. My outing with Mohamed Al-Mutawaa and Abu Dhabi Racing in Corsica really gave me an insight into working with a top-level team and left me wanting more of the same. So, no Spain for me. I will, however, be doing the next best thing: the Mull Rally. John MacCrone and I are out for our second win in three years on one of the rally world’s best-kept secrets. We’re in a Ford Fiesta R5 and start on Friday night, stop around midnight, then re-start Saturday morning and go through until the early hours of Sunday. It’s fantastic competition on some incredible roads on an island just off the west coast of Scotland. Mull will bring to an end an incredible three-rally, three-weekend journey that’s taken me from Bastia to San Marino (Rallylegend with Alister McRae) to Tobermory. I’m only two-thirds down and it’s already been amazing.
