2018 A2B RACE PRE-RACE COURTESY SAFETY INSPECTIONS

Pre-race Courtesy Safety Inspections will be conducted between May 1 - June 5, 2018. Earlier inspections may be possible, upon request.

One of the following inspectors will contact the person in charge identified on your entry. Alex Zahl Brian Barone Chris Nalley Eric Johnson Clay Youmans Marty Lostrom Louise Burke

Please be prepared to give three possible dates for your inspection in order of preference. The inspection should take approximately 2-3 hours. If you do not hear from an inspector, the person in charge (the owner, captain, or person so designated in your entry form) should contact [email protected] to schedule an inspection.

If your boat is more than 50 miles from Annapolis (except Solomons), please be prepared to arrive in Annapolis early enough to accommodate a meaningful inspection or you may hire a surveyor to conduct the inspection. Please contact the Safety Committee for more details.

Any waivers of the Safety Rules must be submitted for consideration by May 15. Note that waivers are not granted routinely. No waivers will be accepted after that date and it will aid in the consideration of waivers that they be submitted with a good reason and well before the deadline. Questions should be directed to the Chair of the Safety Committee, Alex Zahl ([email protected]).

Inspection Certificate

Upon completion of the inspection, the inspector will provide the person in charge a signature/sign-off . You will need this certificate to complete your pre-race check-in. In addition to the signatures, this sheet will contain a notation of any items that must be corrected before race check-in. Each person in charge must see to it that these items are fixed or completed before then. Yachts will not be checked in until all inspection items have been resolved to the satisfaction of the Inspector.

Pre-Inspection

Your safety inspector may conduct a pre-inspection discussion on the phone. The pre-inspection phone conversation should reduce the time necessary for the on-site inspection.

Inspection Procedure

The person in charge (owner, captain, or person so designated in your entry form) must be aboard for the pre- race inspection. No exceptions. This person must be familiar with the yacht and use and stowage of all required equipment. The inspector will conduct the inspection as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Please be prepared to open up and necessary inspection ports, cabinets, and hatches.
