MINUTES OF THE ONE HUNDRED TWENTIETH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE MICHIGAN STATE COUNCIL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HELD VIRTUALLY MARYSVILLE, MICHIGAN MAY 23, 2020 William Chassé: Supreme Knight, Worthy State Chaplain Reverend Paul Erickson, Worthy State Officers, Worthy Past State Deputies, Worthy District Deputies, Worthy State Regional and Diocesan Directors, Worthy General Agents, and Convention Delegates, this is State Deputy Bill Chassé. Thank you for joining us today, and welcome to the annual meeting of the Michigan State Council. I now declare this meeting in order. As we open this virtual meeting, I will ask our state chaplain, Rev. Paul Erickson, to open with prayer. Rev. Paul Erickson: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Help of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O Loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us [inaudible]. Intercede for us with your Son, Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are attending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows so as to lead us through the cross to the glory of the Resurrection. -

Graphic Services Coordinator The information in the 2011-2012 Aquinas College Academic Catalog is sub- ject to change without notice in order to reflect the decisions made by federal and state governments and by the Aquinas College Board of Trustees and Administration. Academic Catalog 2011–2012 Aquinas College: 125 Years of Prayer, Study, Community and Service Aquinas College had its origins in a training school that Dominican sisters estab- lished in Traverse City in 1886 to train novices to teach in Michigan’s Catholic schools. That teacher certification program, known as Novitiate Normal School, moved to Grand Rapids in 1911. In 1922, the school underwent a name change to Sacred Heart College when it admitted lay women for the first time. The next name change—to Marywood College—came in 1927 to reflect the school’s loca- tion at the Marywood Motherhouse on Fulton Street. -

McCuen III St. Clair Shores State Chaplain Rev. Paul E. Erickson Lansing OPENING MASS HOMILY: Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron Vivat Jesus. It is my experience of at least some 40 years of being a priest that God in His providence appoints a reading for us to hear that is apt for the moment. And in the 11 times now that I’ve been able to preside as the Archbishop of Detroit at the beginning of our convention, it’s true, and I find it particularly true this afternoon. Because in meditating on this very short gospel—three verses only—what I heard in the Lord’s word is a foundation—a commentary, really—on the four principle goods that we pursue in our order: the good of charity, the good of unity, the good of fraternity, and the great good of patriotism. And I think this is important for us to think about and to understand that God’s own word speaks about these realities so that we at least begin our time together in the conviction that we didn’t make this up. This is not our construction. Yes, certainly, there are committees and groups, but your participation in the Knights of Columbus, in this fraternal order, is an extension of having heard the word of Christ and responded. -
