All recognized taxa will be clades; adherence to Linnaean ranks is optional. Synonymy is very incomplete (comprehensive synonymy is not a goal of the project, but could be incorporated). Although I anticipate producing a publishable version of this classification at a future date, my near- term goal is to produce a web-accessible version, which will be available to the public and which will be updated regularly through input from systematists familiar with taxa within the Lamiales. O gênero tem sido mantido sem divisão, ou subdividido em duas ou cinco seções taxonômicas, baseadas quase exclusivamente a partir de um conjunto limitado de características florais. Neste trabalho, uma delimitação química interespecífica é descrita a fim de complementar as análises das características botânicas. Análise multivariada dos óleos essenciais de dez espécies na fase vegetativa suporta a divisão taxonômica do gênero em duas seções. Grupo I incluiu quatro espécies da seção Laxiflorae em adição à H. irregularis, os quais foram caracterizados pelos mais altos percentuais de espatulenol e óxido de cariofileno. Grupo II conteve cinco espécies da seção Densiflorae com a-cadinol, a-muuroleno e a-muurolol como constituintes principais. Cadinanos e germacranos/aromadendranos parecem ser as classes marcadoras quimiotaxonômicas nas seções Densiflorae e Laxiflorae, respectivamente. Além disso, análise de redundância canônica não indicou correlação significante entre fatores edáficos com quimiovariação nos óleos essenciais, sugerindo que em Hypenia os óleos são constituídos por substâncias constitutivas e não induzidas pelo ambiente. -

Numerous mucilage idioblast glandular trichomes are seen in both leaf and stem of S. agrestis. The leaves are amphi- trevo-roxo hypostomatics and show dorsiventral mesophyll. Hydathodes are present at the tip of the marginal teeth. Anthocyanin pigments occur into the epidermal cells of the stem, petiole, and abaxial leaf surface. The petiole is concave-convex shaped and bears collateral vascular bundles. -

Rodriguésia 70: e01472017. 2019 http://rodriguesia.jbrj.gov.br DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/2175-7860201970009 Original Paper / Artigo Original Boraginales (Boraginaceae s.l.) and Lamiales (Lamiaceae and Verbenaceae) in a Conservation Area in the Semiarid Region of Northeastern Brazil Francisco Carlos Pinheiro da Costa1,3 & José Iranildo Miranda de Melo2,3,4 Abstract A taxonomic treatment for Boraginales (Boraginaceae s.l.) and Lamiales (Lamiaceae and Verbenaceae) in the Engenheiro Avidos Ecological Park, a full-protection reserve located in the semiarid region of Paraíba State in northeastern Brazil is presented in this study. At the Park, a total of 22 species were encountered, including nine species of Boraginaceae s.l., six species of Lamiaceae, and seven species of Verbenaceae. Vitex orinocensis (Lamiaceae) was found for the first time for Caatinga and also represents a new record for Paraíba state. Morphological descriptions, keys for separating the families and respective species; data concerning flowering, fruiting, geographic distributions, and of the preferred habitats of the species found in the study area are also provided. Resumo O presente estudo apresenta o tratamento taxonômico de Boraginales (Boraginaceae s.l.) e Lamiales (La- miaceae e Verbenaceae) do Parque Ecológico Engenheiro Avidos, Unidade de Conservação do semiárido da Paraíba, nordeste brasileiro. No Parque foram encontradas 22 espécies, incluindo nove de Boraginaceae s.l., seis de Lamiaceae e sete de Verbenaceae. Vitex orinocensis (Lamiaceae) foi encontrada pela primeira vez para a Caatinga e também representa o primeiro registro para o estado da Paraíba. Foram elaboradas descrições morfológicas, chaves para separação das famílias e respectivas espécies, além de fornecidos dados de floração, frutificação, distribuição geográfica e dos ambientes preferenciais das espécies encontradas. -

No grupo II, com oito espécies da seção Laxiflorae, os principais constituintes discriminantes foram o (E)-cariofileno (7,09 ± 4,88%), germacreno D (18,1 ± 11,4%) e o biciclogermacreno (6,65 ± 1,19%). Todos os óleos essenciais apresentaram predominantemente sesquiterpenos, tais como espatulenol (4,5-31,6%), óxido de cariofileno (2,2-14,4%) e selin-11-en-4a-ol (0-34,8%). Os agrupamentos foram idênticos quando utilizada a análise multivariada baseada nos esqueletos carbônicos dos constituintes químicos ou de 18 caracteres morfológicos das folhas das espécies. -

ABSTRACT Th is work provides a summary of the typical fl oral structure of subtribe Hyptidinae (Lamiaceae), in which both style and stamens are declinate within or near the concave anterior corolla lobe. Cross-pollination is facilitated by protandry, acting in conjunction with the explosive release of the stamens and pollen. In contrast, we report that in the three species of the genus Eplingiella we found individuals with either resupinate or non-resupinate fl owers, which represents a novel fl oral dimorphism. -
