These chiefly support our dissertation, research and publication grants, our travel grants for modern topics, February 15, 2019 programs like Emerging Scholars workshops, and the cost of networking and social events including receptions. Saint Rosalia: the Sicilian Miracle Worker
Saint Rosalia: The Sicilian Miracle Worker Growing up in an ethnic, Italian parish with the Traditional Mass and Sacraments, I had the best of both worlds. The Sacred Liturgy of all time was offered in an Italian renaissance style church, complemented throughout the year by different devotions, various acts of popular piety, and most especially, numerous feasts of Our Lord, Our Lady and the Saints. Perhaps the only such example in the United States, this church is unique in itself in that two canonized saints, one blessed and one venerable, visited and prayed there. These feasts were and remain the best efforts of thousands of Italian immigrants and their descendants to venerate (and to spread devotion to) the patrons of the towns and cities they were forced to leave. They almost always brought on their long and difficult voyages a small image of their patron saint, whose intercession they knew would see them through. Once settled in their new country, residents of a particular town or city in Italy would find each other, and often settling in the same parishes and neighborhoods, would establish some kind of a society and organize a feast in honor of their patron including a High Mass, a procession, some kind of dinner or dessert, music and folk dancing, and even reworks! Other, unique traditions would mark particular feasts, customs which were copied from the celebrations in Italy such as barefoot races or preparing certain foods. The immigrants scrimped and saved (including door to door collections in Italian neighborhoods) not only for the annual feast, but also for the eventual purchase of a larger statue of the saint in question, which would be temporarily enshrined in the church’s sanctuary for the feast and carried in the festal procession, and then would be kept in the church year round for the devotion of the faithful. -

OEA 85th Anniversary Booklet The Ohio Embalmers’ Association – Organizes September 1931 (The Embalmers’ Monthly and National Funeral Director, October 1931) A representative group of licensed Ohio embalmers met at the chapel of Glenn L. Myers, located at 23 West Second Ave., Columbus, Ohio for the purpose of organization. A program had been prearranged by Mr. Myers as follows: Organ solo by Mrs. Max Chenoweth, Rev. G.C. McKibben, a personal friend of Mr. Myers, opened the meeting with a prayer, which was followed by Mrs. Edith Perkins Conkright, the chapel soprano, who gave a beautiful rendition of “Going Home.” Myers talked at length on the need of an Association, setting forth the fact that there is nothing in the statutes specifying duties for any person connected with the funeral profession, other than the embalmer. All licensed Ohio embalmers, he or she, of good moral standing is entitled to membership. Rodney B. Baldwin, attorney, advised on organizing Articles of Incorporation with the Secretary of the State. All agreed the organizations was to be founded and based on educational lines and it should not compete with any organization now functioning . The list of elected officers included: William F. Carey, President, Millersburg; Don Williams, Vice-President, Canton; Glenn L. Myers, Secretary-Treasurer, Columbus; Clarence Uhrich, Sergeant-at-Arms, Gnadenhutton. Advisory Board: Robert E. It is the intention to have an annual convention of at least a three-day session, during which time members will be privileged to listen to various professors and demonstrators in embalming and the instructors in the various sciences of the profession, as well as having an interesting entertainment for the families and friends of the members. -

A Narratological Comparison of the Morals of Herbert West and Victor Frankenstein Traces of Prometheus Through Shelley Towards Lovecraft
English literature Level: G3 Supervisor: Anne Päivärinta Course: 2EN20E Examiner: Anna Greek Credits: 15 hp Date: 2017-02-28 A Narratological Comparison of the Morals of Herbert West and Victor Frankenstein Traces of Prometheus through Shelley towards Lovecraft Daniel Sundberg Sundberg i Abstract This essay explores the influence of contemporary values in two iterations of the Greek Prometheus myth and argues that the events portrayed in the two texts follow the structure of the myth, and that the discourse in the texts shows traces of contemporary moral values. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818) is used as a starting point, but the focus is on Howard Phillip Lovecraft’s “Herbert West: Reanimator” (1922) as a later iteration of the Prometheus myth. The method for comparison is centered on disassembling the texts in accordance with the instructions found in Mieke Bal’s Narratology: Introduction to the Theory of Narrative (1997) to form tables of events. The functions of the events found in the Prometheus myth will then be used to sort the events from Lovecraft’s and Shelley’s work to assert focal points for comparing the moral values in the discourse. Daily Saints - 4 September Feast of Saint Rosalia Born 1130 Palermo, Kingdom of Sicily, Died 1166 (aged 35–36) Mount Pellegrino, Kingdom of Sicily Venerated in Roman Catholic Church Feast 14 July (Festino), 4 September (Pilgrimage on Monte Pellegrino) Attributes Depicted as a young woman, sometimes holding a cross, book, or skull, and also a spray of lilies. Some images show her holding a chisel and hammer with which she carved her dedication (see the main story). She is also seen wearing a crown of roses, attended by winged angels, and often with a view through a cave opening of Palermo Harbor. Patronage Palermo; El Hatillo; Zuata Anzoátegui; and El Alto de Escuque Trujillo Italian fishermen of Monterey, California St. Rosalia was born in c.1130 at Palermo, Sicily. She was a descendant of the great Charlemagne and was raised around the royal Sicilian court. The tradition says that her father Duke Sinibaldo, lord of Quisquinia and Monte delle Rose, and her mother was Mary Guiscarda, cousin of the Norman king Roger II. While very young, she was called to the Norman Palace, to the court of queen Margaret, wife of William I of Sicily (1154- 1166), and her beauty attracted the admiration of noble knights, her most ardent suitor, according to popular tradition, was Baudouin, the future king of Jerusalem. But from her youth, Rosalia knew she was called to dedicate her life to God. She felt a greater, more important call, a very strong eremitical vocation. Following the example of anchorites, who left the comforts and active life retreated to a cave or in a cell, usually near a church or a convent, Rosalia retreated to a cave in the paternal feud of Quisquinia about 20 km. -

Algunas de ellas se asemejan a las características citadas en la novela y otras han bebido directamente del cine. Pero las cuestiones son las siguientes: ¿quién es el verdadero monstruo?, ¿cuáles han de ser las re- presentaciones definitivas de estos personajes? Probablemente nunca lleguemos a tener una única imagen de estos personajes, pero lo que sí sabemos es que forman y formarán parte de nuestro imaginario colectivo. BACKGROUND Stress CTP recently emerged as a potential strategy to combine the anatomic and functional evaluation of CAD in a single scan. METHODS A total of 100 consecutive symptomatic patients scheduled for ICA were prospectively enrolled. All patients underwent rest coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) followed by stress static CTP with a whole-heart coverage CT scanner (Revolution CT, GE Healthcare, Milwaukee, Wisconsin). -
