Last week’s WAFL Collectables prompted East Perth supporter Marlene to dig out a few oddments from her late father’s collection. Regular readers would remember that I featured several old fixture cards in last week’s column, the oldest of which dated to 1937. Marlene’s fixture cards weren’t anywhere near as old, but they were just as interesting. The first was the type that I like best because it wasn’t made by a big company, but by a small retailer – Wasleys’ Paint Centre of Mt Lawley and Morley. The blue 1973 fixture card also included a handy metric conversion chart for punters and drinkers, allowing them to work out how collection, I haven’t been game many millilitres in a pint of beer or how many to unseal the pack and find out kilograms a nine-stone jockey is carrying. which player features as the The other was from 1985 and was made for King in each suit. The second, by Steve Errington, is called Disorderly Proceedings in the Park and it covers football in WA from 1885-1900. Both are excellent reads and I would encourage anyone with an interest in the early history of WA football to get a hold of them.
