The information was collected from theme interviews from the members of Amaranthe, Epica and Sonata Arctica and this thesis was written based on their answers using qualitative research. Based on the interviews we can say that each musician has taken some influences from their role models. The influences they take from other musicians’ songs are mostly the stylish or atmospherical influence. For all musicians, the common source of inspiration was books and movies. The role models affected these people in different ways, but what was common was that they have learned from them with consideration, following only the good practices. In this thesis I compared my own composing process to my role models’ composing processes. There was a lot in common, it turned out, that the most of these composers compose alone. The most important tips for aspiring composers were to “follow your heart”, “let the music choose you” and “never give up”. November 2017 Stuttgart-Wangen LKA/Longhorn Gäste: Vuur, Myrath Seitdem EPICA in der Metalszene ans Licht traten, bildete sich um die Band ein Wirbelwind an Studioaufnahmen, Interviews, kreischenden Fans, weltweiten Live- Auftritten und dem Rock’n’Roll Lifestyle. Der Verlust von beiden Plattenfirmen und das Ausscheiden des Schlagzeugers im Jahr 2006 ließ zunächst vermuten, dass die Band von ihrem Weg an die Spitze abgekommen ist. Aber es ist nicht alles so, wie es scheint. EPICA kam zurück mit einem mächtigen neuen Album, „The Divine Conspiracy“ ist ein spannendes, neues Kapitel in der Geschichte EPICAs. Die niederländische Symphonic Metal Band EPICA mit der weiblichen Front-Sängerin wurde im Jahr 2002 gegründet. Mark Jansen hat After Forever verlassen, um seine eigenen Träume zu verwirklichen und fand heraus, dass der Gitarrenspielen Ad Sluijter, Bassspieler Yves Huts und der Keyboarder und Pianist Coen Janssen diesen Wunsch teilten. Der Schlagzeuger Jeroen Simons und die Sängerin Simone Simons machten die Band komplett. Der Bandname wurde abgeleitet von einem Album von Kamelot, von der mehrere Bandmitglieder große Verehrer sind. EPICA hat sich musikalisch nicht nur von der Welt des Rocks und dem symphonischen Metal beeinflussen lassen, sondern auch von unterschiedlichster Filmmusik die von Danny Elfman und Hans Zimmer komponiert wurde. Innerhalb weniger Monate hatte EPICA genügend Material zusammen um das atemberaubende Debütalbum „The Phantom Agony“ aufzunehmen. Das Album erschien weltweit im Jahr 2003, gefolgt von einer langen Tournee. EPICAs Bemühungen wurden im Jahr 2004 mit einem Essent Awart (eine wichtige niederländische Auszeichnung für talentierte junge Bands) belohnt. Während EPICA das ganze Jahr über auf Tournee war, zeichneten und veröffentlichten sie das zweite Album „Consign To Oblivion“ im Jahr 2005.
