The intent of such an issue – as explained in the introduction - was that of introducing to a wide Chinese readership a different concept of sustainability, one that privileges passive devices to technical and technological ones, both at the scale of the building and at the scale of the city. The article – and the issue as a whole – is part of the contemporary debate on the industrial heritage of the Chinese city, a debate revolving around the increasing attempts to integrate variously-sized dismissed structures into the urban fabric.
