ZHANG Li. World Architecture magazine, monthly editorials 2013 – 2016. World Architecture is the leading Chinese magazine on the project of architecture. As Editor-in-chief, the candidate contributes monthly editorials which help shape the national discourse on architecture by providing an international view on state-of-the-art design.

Atelier Teamminus. Janamani Visitor Centre, Xinzhai, Contea di Yushu, provincial di Qinghai, Cina. E Michele Bonino, Atelier Teamminus – centro civico e di accoglienza Jianamani. “Casabella” 837 (2014), pp. 14-21. Casabella is one of the longest-running and most widely-read design magazines in the world. Publication of an architect’s project on the pages of Casabella is in itself proof of the high level of his/her professional work, and it is here displayed to sustain the candidate’s proficiency in the field in which he is called to exercise his knowledge.

ZHANG Li. Public Life At The Right Time: Joan Busquets’ Influence In Contemporary Chinese Cities. World Architecture Magazine, 2013,02: 42-45. The article, published on China’s leading magazine on the project of architecture, is part of a wider research interest in the relationship between Western and Chinese architecture. The candidate’s attempt is that of shaping a discourse that builds on the continuous exhange between the two, and facilitate design as well as theoretical confrontations.

ZHANG Li, Michele Bonino, Filippo De Pieri, Preface. In Michele Bonino, Filippo De Pieri (eds.), Beijing Danwei: Industrial Heritage in the Contemporary City. Jovis, Berlin, 2015. The book is a report of the result of an international research project which involved Politecnico di Torino and Tsinghua University as partners, and which unpacked the contemporary identity of formerly industrial complexes within the city of Beijing. The research was born as an official consultancy in the attempt to integrate such complexes – danwei – into the project of the contemporary city.

ZHANG Li. Playful Rationalism: On The Works Of Soldevila ARCHITECTS. World Architecture Magazine, 2013,06: 40-41. Brief authored essay working as a critical reading of the work of Soldevila Architects and exploring the relationship between structure and form in their architecture.

ZHANG Li, Soft Sustainability: The Torino Approach, World Architecture, 2013, 05: 31-33. The article works as an introduction to a monographic issue of World Architecture, dedicated to the city of Torino and curated by prof. Michele Bonino. The intent of such an issue – as explained in the introduction - was that of introducing to a wide Chinese readership a different concept of sustainability, one that privileges passive devices to technical and technological ones, both at the scale of the building and at the scale of the city. The article – and the issue as a whole – is part of the contemporary debate on the industrial heritage of the Chinese city, a debate revolving around the increasing attempts to integrate variously-sized dismissed structures into the urban fabric.

Memory/Regeneration: Beijing Danwei: the research program was the result of a partnership between Politecnico di Torino and Tsinghua University in Beijing, under the joint coordination of ZHANG Li and Michele Bonino. 2013- 2015.

Mapping controversial memories in the historic urban landscape: a multidisciplinary study of Beijing, Mexico City and Rome. Zhang Li is associated member of this research project, led by EPFL (prof. Florence Graezer Bideau) and funded by the Swiss Network for International Studies, 2014.
