Which Canadian Charities Had the Largest Assets in 2014?
www.canadiancharitylaw.ca Which Canadian charities had the largest assets in 2014? By Mark Blumberg (March 23, 2016) We recently reviewed the T3010 information for 2014. It covers about 84,370 of the 86,000 registered charities that have so far filed their return and that have been entered into the CRA’s database. Canadian registered charities are currently required to disclose on the T3010 their assets. The total assets of all the 84,370 registered charities were about $373,050,327,255.00. Below we have a table of Canadian charities and how much they spent as reported for the 2014 fiscal year. Thank you to Celeste Bonas, an intern at Blumbergs, for helping with this project. The Sean Blumberg Transparency Project is in memory of my youngest brother Sean Blumberg. Sean was a sweet, kind person, a great brother who helped me on a number of occasions with many tasks including the time consuming and arduous task of reviewing T3010 databases and making them into something useful. As part of the Sean Blumberg Transparency Project, Blumbergs has been releasing information on the Canadian charity sector to provide a better understanding of the size, scope, complexity and challenges of the sector. Gairdner to recognize and reward the achievements of medical researchers whose work “contributes significantly to improving the quality of human life”. The Foundation is a Canadian organization that has never lost sight of its primary mission – the recognition of scientists it deemed to have made the most important breakthrough discoveries in biomedical science. It’s recipients are responsible for the discovery of the structure of DNA, the eradication of smallpox, CT scans, MRI machines, the human genome, the cure for ulcers, and the vaccine against HPV, to name a few. Since the first awards were granted in 1959, the Canada Gairdner Awards have become Canada's foremost international award- and one of the most prestigious awards in medical science. Our track record of consistent high quality adjudication and selection by the independent adjudication committees have resulted in global recognition and esteem. The Gairdner was incorporated in December 1957 as a charitable corporation under the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. During 2013, the Foundation was continued as a federal corporation under the Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act. -

IMSA.” Like all of us, I am grateful for the funding the State of Illinois provides It was easy to say yes. As an alum, many of my closest friends are people I met for IMSA. Carl Sagan said IMSA was a gift from the people of Illinois on campus. And, IMSA gave me opportunities I hadn’t even imagined. I joined to the human future – and it is. The number of translational scientific discoveries and technological innovations derived from the center’s research labs over the course of the past three decades has been remarkable. Equally remarkable have been the number of scientific awards and honors, including Nobel prizes, received by Beckman faculty and the number of young scientists mentored by Beckman faculty who have gone on to prominent positions in academia, bio-technology and related fields. This year we include several featured articles on these accomplishments. The 2008 Harvard / Paul F. Glenn Symposium on Aging June 23, 2008 Paul F. Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging Welcome to the 3rd Annual Harvard/Paul F. Glenn Symposium on Aging. Each year, the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories host the Harvard Symposium on Aging with a mission to educate the wider research community about advancements in this fast-paced field and to stimulate collaborative research in this area. We have been fortunate to have many of the leaders in the aging field speak at these symposia. As a result, attendees come not only from the Harvard research community but from across the nation and from overseas for this one day event. We are glad you could join us here today. The reasons for accelerating research molecular biology of aging are clear. First and foremost, the number of aged individuals in developed countries is growing rapidly, which is going to place an unprecedented burden on the families and the economies of those nations. Because chronic illness in the elderly is a major medical cost, enormous savings would be achieved if mortality and morbidity could be compressed within a shorter duration of time at the end of life. A study by the RAND Corporation in 2006 concluded that advances in medicine arising from aging research would be 10-100 times more cost-effective than any other medical breakthrough. Advances in aging research have shown that it is possible to extend the healthy lifespan of laboratory animals through genetic and pharmacological means. Many leaders in the aging field predict that significant strides will be made in understanding how human health and lifespan are regulated, leading to novel medicines to forestall and treat diseases of aging such as diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s and heart disease. -

One evolutionarily conserved method by which organisms eliminate cells in a programmed manner is by cell- autonomous activation of the caspase-mediated apoptosis pathway, which produces a corpse that is engulfed and degraded by phagocytic cells. Cell elimination can also occur by a different method, called cell extrusion, in which the cell to be eliminated is squeezed out from a layer of cells, such as an epithelium. -
