Chairman’s Report 2019 Annual Report

2019 saw a big year of change for the Association in a number of key areas. With a focussed direction and renewed strategy, the Association looked to build and grow our membership base and general participation in table tennis within the Auckland region. The Association undertook the Tables in Communities project which is changing the face of table tennis access throughout the Auckland region by linking table tennis resource with technology in conjunction with a comprehensive development programme. The “Seekapong” app was launched in August 2019 and serves to make more people aware of the number of table tennis opportunities and venues available, and to form a table tennis community of people with the intention to play table tennis and interact together. The app is still in its infancy however the Association has high expectations for its success and the challenge will be to keep developing the app, and growing the number of registrations on the app, in order to meet those expectations.

Table availability at the Auckland table tennis stadium on weeknights and weekends is at a premium. The Auckland Interclub competition and Auckland Interschools competition are run over multiple nights. Development coaching programmes, Club activities, Auckland representative squad coaching, and stadium keyholders often have the Auckland table tennis stadium operating at capacity, and it is commonplace for development coaching programmes to be run on 28 tables as opposed to the 20 tables that are employed during competition. Through the Tables in Communities project the Association continues to explore satellite venues to deliver table tennis. To attest to this, the Association assisted in planting two table tennis Clubs during the 2019 season (i.e. Tune Table Tennis Club in Pakuranga, and Waiheke Table Tennis Club). In addition, the Association developed non-traditional partnerships with venues such as Pakuranga Plaza shopping centre, Otahuhu Library, and The Cloud. Further venue partnerships are necessary to meet the ever-growing demand for table tennis across the Auckland region. The growth of the Association’s Facilities Network is a key task within the Tables in Communities project.

Eberhard Kleiser, Dinyar Irani, Patrick Low and Shane Warbrooke continue to do exceptional work in delivering our development programmes and this work has led to greater numbers attending the Association’s School Holiday programmes, Clubs, coaching groups, and tournaments. The increase in participation numbers has also led to an increase in stadium keyholder members. The Association continues to explore ways to improve our delivery to enhance the player experience such that all table tennis participants know they are valued members of the Auckland table tennis family and participate in table tennis regularly.

With this in mind the Association has looked at ways to enhance the delivery of competitions and events to ensure we cater for the full spectrum of players from social to competitive. To reflect this, the Association has contracted David Jackson as Competitions Manager. David Jackson is a Life Member of the Association and brings a unique set of skills and a vast knowledge built from running regional, national, and international competitions. The Association has committed to adding at least two tournaments to our calendar – the Auckland Max-Play Tournament (July) and the Auckland Spring Open (November). The Association’s premier event – the Auckland Open – continues to grow. Player entries for the 2019 Auckland Open broke the previous player entry number record (which was set during the 2018 season). The number of entries received came with its own challenges in terms of scheduling which meant that the Open Finals session had a late start – but it didn’t disappoint! The 2019 Auckland Open saw two first time winners of the Open Men’s and Open Women’s singles events. Nathan Xu reversed the 2018 result and beat Teng Teng Liu in the final of the Open Men’s singles, and Jin (Kim) Wang beat Kai Peng in the final of the Open Women’s singles. The night was well received courtesy of the many sponsors; Penberthy Insurance, Commute Transportation Consultants, Ray White Real Estate, Barfoot & Thompson, Clarke Group, Anran International (NZ) Limited, and UNO Property Management. Product sponsorship was received from Coca-Cola and ASB Bank. Delivery of the 2019 Auckland Open Finals session was greatly enhanced by MC Chris Herlihy who returned to centre court for the fourth time in conjunction with volunteers from the ActivAsian programme. In 2019 the winner of the prize draw for a free stadium keyholder membership extension was Aurora Lim. The $1,000 cash spot prize draw was won by Frank Liu.

The Association adjusted the development coaching pathway through the implementation of additional coaching groups, a greater number of training partners, and appointment of new coaches which in turn led to improved alignment of the pathway to Auckland representation and created a healthy competitive team environment. Auckland team culture throughout the year was strong. Credit for a strong Auckland team culture must go to Auckland Squad Coach Phillip Xiao who took a sabbatical from mid-2019 to pursue an MBA. Phillip Xiao set high standards for coaching, training, and competition and those standards live on through the current Auckland Squad Coaching team; Wei Zhong Jiang, Tianyi Li (departed at the end of the 2019 season), Hyo Joo Lee, Dinyar Irani, and Eberhard Kleiser. Senior players such as Teng Teng Liu and Nathan Xu also model the Auckland team values. This culminated in success for Auckland team members at the 2019 Open Table Tennis Championships held in Christchurch where Auckland won a number of events including the Open Men’s A Grade, Open Women’s A Grade, Under 18 Boys’ B Grade, Under 15 Boys’ A Grade, and Under 13 Girls’ A Grade team titles. In addition, there were some notable individual results with the following players winning national singles titles. Teng Teng Liu (Open Men’s), ChunChieh Ting (D Grade Men’s), Nathan Xu (Under 21 Men’s & 18 Boys’), Joanna Yang (Under 15 Girls’ & Under 13 Girls’), Timothy Choi (Under 13 Boys’), Lucas Tian (Under 11 Boys’), and Carrie Guo (Under 11 Girls’).

On the international stage, a number of Auckland players continued to impress. Highlights included: - Nathan Xu competing at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, winning the Open Men’s singles at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Tour – Vanuatu, and winning the Junior Boys’ singles at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Junior Championships - Teng Teng Liu winning the Open Men’s singles at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Tour - New Zealand - Dean Shu winning the Open Men’s singles at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Tour - New Caledonia (Dean Shu is currently training in Germany)

Other players who achieved national representation during the 2019 season included; Annie Chen, Jack Chen, Timothy Choi, Gavin Ding, David Guo, and Allen Zhu. The 2019 Commute Transportation Consultants ATTA Elite Player Scholarships were awarded to Jack Chen, Timothy Choi, Dean Shu, Nathan Xu, and Allen Zhu. Many Auckland representative squad members are continuing to train hard in preparation for the coming season, and a number are travelling overseas over the Christmas / New Year break for additional training. I look forward to following their progress and achievements, and the further development of the Association’s development coaching pathway, during the 2020 season.

The Association continues to expand our community partnerships to increase the reach and usage of the Auckland table tennis stadium. In 2019 the Association partnered with Boxing Alley who run morning bootcamp sessions within the Auckland table tennis stadium. We continued partnerships with Summit Chess Club (who operate from the upstairs lounge on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and run a monthly Chess tournament) and DDS Massage (who provide a sport and wellness massage service for the community every Saturday morning). The Association has recently partnered with Arts & Play in Therapy Education Trust (who provide therapy to children that schools have identified as being in need of help subsequent to trauma in their lives).

The Association is always looking at ways to maintain and improve the Auckland table tennis stadium in order to provide the Auckland table tennis family with an optimum experience. This year significant projects involved upgrading our member management and access control system, and replacing a number of barriers. The Association received the first tranche of funding towards replacing the lights in the Auckland table tennis stadium with new LED lights, and we intend to complete the light replacement project during the 2020 season.

As always, the Association is hugely indebted to our ever-growing number of sponsors, gaming trusts, community trusts, and Local Boards who are fantastic supporters of all things table tennis in Auckland. It is only with their support that we are able to deliver the many programmes and activities that benefit the Auckland table tennis family in addition to maintaining, renovating, and upgrading our valued facility. Without their support and contributions a number of the activities we deliver would not be possible. In addition, huge credit must be attributed to Cliff Freeman (Funding Officer) who works tirelessly for the Association to obtain funding for our many projects – long may this continue.

To all members of the Auckland table tennis family, on behalf of the Auckland Table Tennis Association I wish you all the best for the festive season and the year ahead.

Wayne Gear Chairman 2018 / 2019 Auckland Interclub competition

The Auckland Interclub competition continued to offer the option for teams to opt to play with either two players or three players in a team on any one given night. Players in two- player teams contested two singles matches and one doubles match each. In three-player teams one player contested two singles matches, and two players each contested one singles match and one doubles match. It remained possible for a two-player team to compete against a three-player team.

Auckland Interclub players arose from across the greater Auckland region; Auckland, Counties-Manukau, Waitemata, and North Shore.

The 2018 / 2019 Auckland Summer Interclub competition attracted entries from 60 teams that were placed into ten grades (increased from 48 teams in eight grades during the 2017 / 2018 season). Each grade was comprised of six teams. The top six grades competed on Thursday nights and the four lowest grades competed on Wednesday nights. Central Club was moved to Monday nights at the beginning of the 2019 season in order to accommodate the increase in the number of Interclub teams competing on a Wednesday.

The 2019 Auckland Winter Interclub competition attracted entries from 66 teams that were placed into eleven grades (increased from 60 teams in ten grades during the 2018 season). Each grade was comprised of six teams. The top six grades competed on Thursday nights and five lowest grades competed on Wednesday nights. Central Club continued to be played on Monday nights to accommodate further growth in the number of Interclub teams competing on a Wednesday.

All Auckland junior representative players, and all Auckland senior representative players vying for selection in the Auckland Open Men’s A team, Open Men’s B team, and Open Women’s A team, continued to be required to compete in at least 50% of Auckland Winter Interclub team contests.

The Auckland Interclub competition continued to be run with a promotion / relegation system being employed between all grades. In 2018 / 2019 Auckland Summer Interclub teams contested two “grading” rounds before the third and final “Championship” round equating to 15 weeks of play. In 2019 Auckland Winter Interclub teams contested three “grading” rounds before the fourth and final “Championship” round equating to 20 weeks of play.

Prizes were awarded for team and individual results. The Interclub Player of the Year Awards were decided by determining the player who accumulated the most singles and doubles wins irrespective of grade. Awards were presented for the 2018 / 2019 Auckland Summer Interclub competition and the 2019 Auckland Winter Interclub competition respectively. Benjamin Yen was the winner of the Dick Rassie Memorial Trophy for Summer Interclub Player of the Year. Brad Chen was the winner of the Bill Burns Memorial Trophy for Winter Interclub Player of the Year. 2018 / 2019 Summer Interclub match results - Round 1 24th October 2018 - 22nd November 2019

College Sport continued to collect and process entries for the Auckland Interschools table tennis competition for the Term Two (Winter) and Term Three (Early Spring) competitions. Entries were collected via the EnterNow system and then forwarded to the Auckland Table Tennis Association following the close of entries. The Auckland Table Tennis Association was made responsible for collection and processing of entries for the Term One (Pre-season) competition.

Two venues hosted the four sessions of the 2019 Auckland Interschools table tennis competition: a) Central Auckland venue: Auckland table tennis stadium; Thursday 3.45p.m. – 6.00p.m., Friday 3.45p.m. – 6.00p.m., Friday 6.00p.m. – 8.15p.m. b) East Auckland venue: St. Kentigern College sports hall, Friday 3.45p.m. – 5.35p.m.

The number of teams that entered the Auckland Interschools table tennis competition were the same as compared with the 2018 season. Of note was the following: a) the trend of decreasing entries in the Pre-season competition continued as secondary schools increasingly focus on designated “summer sports” during Term One and Term Four b) a new Interschools table tennis competition was offered by the Waitemata Table Tennis Association during Term Two and Term Three. Several West Auckland schools that previously competed at the Auckland table tennis stadium in the Friday 6.00p.m. – 8.15p.m. session chose to compete in the new competition due to the playing venue being closer in proximity to their respective schools c) several schools that competed at the St. Kentigern College sports hall venue during Term Two opted not to compete during Term Three due to preparation for senior exams

Despite the factors above entries were strong and there remains room for growth. 14 teams entered the Term One competition, a reduction of five teams as compared with the 2018 season. 149 teams entered the Term Two competition, the same number as entered in the 2018 season. 130 teams entered the Term Three competition, an increase of five teams as compared with the 2018 season. Entries were received from 26 different schools – the same number of schools that competed during the 2018 season.

28 tables were utilized in the main hall of the Auckland table tennis stadium in order to cater for demand on Fridays during both the Term Two and Term Three competitions, especially for the Friday 3.45p.m. – 6.00p.m. session which continued to be the most popular playing session. 24 tables were erected at St. Kentigern College sports hall during Term Two, and 12 tables were erected during Term Three.

Funding was received as a contribution towards the Development Coach salary (Foundation North, North & South Trust, NZCT, The Trusts Community Foundation), and as a contribution towards the CEO/Development Officer salary (Blue Waters Community Trust, Foundation North, Four Winds Foundation, NZCT) to deliver junior table tennis development programmes, and offer increased opportunities for juniors to participate in table tennis, which included promotion, support, and delivery of the Auckland Interschools table tennis competition.

Entry numbers were as follows: 2019 Pre-season Auckland Interschools competition (Term One): 14 teams (from 19 in 2018) 2019 Winter Auckland Interschools competition (Term Two): 149 teams (from 149 in 2018) 2019 Early Spring Auckland Interschools competition (Term Three): 130 teams (from 125 in 2018)

The Auckland Open continued to be the premier event on the Auckland Table Tennis Association tournament calendar. The Association achieved a record entry during the 2018 season (235 entries). The Association achieved further growth in entries during the 2019 season as entries increased significantly to 252 players across all categories, the most entries received for an Auckland Open since the late 1970’s. Entries were received from players ranging from Northland to Southland, and Kai Peng from Australia.

The Association continued to build recognition and awareness of the Auckland Open. Advertising continued to be conducted via e-mail, the Association website, Facebook, printed flyers, and word of mouth. The Open Finals session was held on the evening of Saturday 24 th August, 2019. Over 300 spectators collected free tickets to enter the spot prize draws held during the Open Finals session. The number of spectators increased significantly as compared with the 2018 Auckland Open which attracted over 250 spectators.

The Open event sponsors were; Penberthy Insurance, Commute Transportation Consultants, Ray White Real Estate – Broadway, Barfoot & Thompson – Beachlands, and Clarke Group. Product sponsorship was received from Coca-Cola and ASB Bank. Free food and soft drinks were distributed to spectators during the Open Finals session including Tip Top ice cream, confectionery donated by Jim Coad, and baked goods.

The Open Finals session began with the Open Men’s doubles final, followed by the Open Women’s singles final, and concluded with the Open Men’s singles final – the same schedule that was introduced in the 2017 season. Only one final was in progress at any one time which enabled a centre court atmosphere to be created around a single table. Chris Herlihy acted as Open Finals session MC. Chris entertained spectators with jokes, competitions, and prize draws. Chris primarily focussed on visual entertainment. Children who participated in a fun competition received sponsored merchandise from Coca-Cola. ASB Bank drink bottles were distributed randomly to spectators present during the Open Finals session.

Club activities external to the Auckland table tennis stadium East Auckland Table Tennis Club: Eberhard Kleiser (Development Coach) delivered the East Auckland Table Tennis Club at the Pakuranga Community Hall on Tuesday nights. Funding was received from Howick Local Board as a contribution towards venue hire at the Pakuranga Community Hall.

The Club catered for players of all ages and provided a school-club link for students in East Auckland. There are now several options for school age students to take part in table tennis in East Auckland; Auckland Interschools table tennis competition, Auckland Primary & Intermediate team competition, Tune Table Tennis Club, East Auckland Training Squad, as well as private coaching options. As a result the number of school age students attending the East Auckland Table Tennis Club decreased. However, an increasing number of University students and adults attended the Club. There was an average attendance of 16 players per session during the 2019 season. Players from the East Auckland Table Tennis Club regularly entered Auckland regional tournaments which played a part in increasing tournament entry numbers during the 2019 season.

Special Olympics Howick-Pakuranga continued to meet at the Pakuranga Community Hall on Sunday afternoons to practice table tennis and used the table tennis tables at the Hall free of charge.

The Association continued the partnership with the East Auckland Chinese Society that was established in the 2018 season. The East Auckland Chinese Society used the table tennis tables at Pakuranga Community Hall free of charge when they met on Monday mornings and, in return, Association members were offered the opportunity to take part in the Society table tennis activity free of charge.

Eastern Table Tennis Club: Bob Inns coordinated the Eastern Table Tennis Club which ran on Monday nights from March – November in the St. Thomas’ School Hall. One team from the Eastern Table Tennis Club regularly competed in the Auckland Interclub competition. The Association continued to promote the Eastern Table Tennis Club through the East & Bays Courier listings on Neighbourly.

Eberhard Kleiser delivered free regular coaching to students at St. Thomas’ School on Monday lunchtimes February – August 2019 before ending the coaching due to health reasons. Eberhard Kleiser will resume regular coaching at St. Thomas’ School in the 2020 season. The Association supplied table tennis equipment for St. Thomas’ School students free of charge. St. Thomas’ School students also received free entry into the Eastern Table Tennis Club. In return, the Eastern Table Tennis Club received free hall hire from St. Thomas’ School.

French Bay Table Tennis Club: Bryce Kay operated the French Bay Table Tennis Club on Tuesday nights from April – November 2019. The Club was based in the St. John Vianney Catholic Church Hall in Hillsborough and reported growth in playing numbers during the 2019 season. One team from the French Bay Table Tennis Club regularly competed in the Auckland Interclub competition.

Tune Table Tennis Club: Dinyar Irani established Tune Table Tennis Club on Saturday afternoons. The Club was based in the Pakuranga College School Hall in Pakuranga. The Association assisted the Club with equipment and strategic planning. Over 60 players attended the Club during the 2019 season. Funding was received from The Lion Foundation for table tennis balls for the Club.

Waiheke Table Tennis Club: Herve Mavre established the Waiheke Table Tennis Club on Sunday afternoons. The Club was based in the Onetangi Hall on Waiheke Island. Funding was received from Waiheke Local Board for one table tennis table and table tennis balls for the Club. Funding was received from Four Winds Foundation for one table tennis table for the Club.

Club activities based at the Auckland table tennis stadium Central Club : Changed to run on Monday evenings from 7.00p.m. – 10.00p.m. for the 2019 season. The change meant that Central Club received priority booking on Monday nights, no longer occupying the same time as the Auckland Interclub competition. The change offers the opportunity for Central Club to grow without immediate restriction. Eberhard Kleiser coordinated the Central Club which ran on a ladder system. Games were played the best of one game to 11 points, and players self-managed their games via a series of boards placed at the end of each table which allowed players to move their name tag up or down a table based on the result of their match. Central Club attendance numbers remained strong with an average attendance of 45 players per session.

Day Club : The New Zealand Chinese Table Tennis Association (NZCTTA) continued to deliver the Day Club on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9.30a.m. – 12.30p.m. The NZCTTA volunteer committee was very active in delivering playing and social activities to Day Club members, and the wider table tennis community. The NZCTTA organized two individual tournaments (senior and junior) during the 2019 season, and a team tournament. The NZCTTA senior individual tournament was the culmination of the Challenge Series that was first introduced during the 2018 season. During the Challenge Series players challenged fellow registered players and results were submitted for processing within a rating list over the course of five months of competition. The final player ratings determined the grades that players could enter in the NZCTTA senior individual tournament. The NZCTTA also arranged an adult group coaching programme and offered a table tennis robot machine for Day Club attendees to use. Day Club offers numerous opportunities for members of the table tennis community to congregate and play. Day Club has been an important factor in the Association’s growing stadium keyholder membership.

Korean Club : Continued to operate on Saturday nights from 6.00p.m. – 10.00p.m. The club was run by the Korean Table Tennis Association of New Zealand however was open to all players. Stadium keyholder memberships & stadium and table hire The number of players purchasing stadium keyholder memberships continued to increase. The 2018 / 2019 financial year is the first time that income from stadium keyholder memberships has exceeded $140,000 (an 11% increase as compared with the previous financial year).

Despite the increase in stadium keyholder memberships revenue from stadium and table hire also increased by 11% as compared with the previous financial year. Traditionally there has been a trade-off between revenue from stadium keyholder memberships and revenue from table hire because stadium keyholders receive unlimited table hire. Stadium keyholder members were entitled to free attendance at Central Club, Day Club (excepting the Day Club administration fee), and Interclub (excepting the $50 team entry fee). In addition, stadium keyholder members received a 15% reduction in entry fees when they entered Auckland regional tournaments and were eligible to enter a draw to win a free extension equal to the term of their current stadium keyholder membership at the 2019 Auckland Open (won by Aurora Lim).

The Auckland table tennis stadium was booked on a number of occasions by organisations such as the Auckland Chinese Table Tennis Association, Ember Services, New Zealand Chinese Table Tennis Association, and Sport Auckland. Tables were hired for coaching by school groups such as Dilworth School, Home Sports Auckland South, Mt. Hobson Middle School, and St. Peter’s College. Community groups such as the NZ Community Education Group and Summit Chess Club hired the upstairs lounge.

The number of stadium keyholders who arranged their own practice independent of Clubs and other organised play opportunities continued to grow. Groups of stadium keyholders regularly practiced together particularly on Monday evenings, Tuesday mornings, Tuesday evenings, Thursday mornings, Friday mornings, Saturday afternoons, and Sunday afternoons. The Association changed the delivery time of Day Club U19 training to allow stadium keyholders and casual players to utilise the Auckland table tennis stadium after 2.00p.m. on Saturday afternoons. Eberhard Kleiser delivering a school development session at Ponsonby Intermediate Tables in Communities The Association undertook the Tables in Communities project (Year 1) with the vision to link table tennis resource with technology in conjunction with a comprehensive development programme. Table tennis is a popular sport in the Auckland region and is growing rapidly. People are not always able to access central facilities. A new approach is required to address changes in the sporting landscape and the way in which people want to access sport.

The Tables in Communities project will grow junior and community participation by putting table tennis tables into community indoor and outdoor spaces and supporting those tables with localised programmes. The project includes an innovative approach that uses technology to link players with table tennis tables in public spaces and places and with fellow members of the table tennis community. There are three project components: a) Tables in Communities to create new indoor and outdoor participation spaces b) Community Partnerships to develop long term sustainability of the project c) Directing new junior players into Clubs, school competitions, and other opportunities to take part in organized play

The goals for the Tables in Communities project to be achieved by 1 st December, 2021 are as follows: a) 15,000 players registered on the Seekapong app b) 100 table tennis tables distributed in the community c) 40 Memoranda of Understanding signed with Local Boards and facilities

John Cordue was contracted as Tables in Communities Project Manager for Year 1. Funding was received for John Cordue’s role from Foundation North and Four Winds Foundation.

After significant development and testing the free Tables in Communities app – “Seekapong” – went live in August 2019. Seekapong shows people where to access table tennis within their community and links people with each other through the sport of table tennis, thus forming an interactive table tennis community. The Association is actively registering people on the Seekapong app. The Association developed product partnerships with Rialto Cinemas Newmarket and Dominos Newmarket (pizza). The product partnerships form the basis of an incentives and giveaways programme to promote registrations on the Seekapong app and increased usage of the app.

Attention was placed on building the Association’s social media following, particularly on Instagram and Facebook, which are important avenues to promote registration on the Seekapong app and to highlight table tennis activity in communities around the Auckland region in which people can take part. The Association has also developed a WeChat Official page which promotes Association activities and the Seekapong app.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) document was developed that detailed the agreement between the Association and partner organisations on the Facilities Network. The MOU was adjusted depending on the individual partner organisation. Once an MOU was agreed to table tennis tables, bats, and balls were supplied to a given partner organisation. The Association has entered into MOUs to date with multiple schools, multiple clubs, Auckland University Recreation Centre, Mt. Albert Community & Recreation Centre, Otahuhu Pool & Leisure Centre, Otahuhu Pataka Korero Library, and Pakuranga Plaza shopping centre. The Association has had positive talks with around table tennis tables being placed in public spaces and places such as The Cloud, Aotea Square, and public parks. Likely public park locations for permanent outdoor table tennis tables include Murray Halberg Park and Rocket Park. The Association continues to actively grow the network of venues that offer table tennis across the Auckland region.

The Association is indebted to the following funders of the Tables in Communities project: Blue Sky Community Trust Foundation North Four Winds Foundation Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board The Lion Foundation WMG2017 Legacy Programme (Contestable Fund)

Girls’ Coaching was free for girls to attend with a view to encouraging greater female participation in table tennis. There was an average attendance of 15 players per session during the 2019 season. The Association had success in encouraging girls to progress from Girls’ Coaching to participating in Junior Club which produced a mixed group of boys and girls.

School Holiday Coaching: Operated over the course of one week in each of the school holidays and ran from 9.00a.m. – 4.00p.m. each day of the programme. The School Holiday Coaching programme continued to attract strong attendance numbers. The Association increased the cost to attend the programme from January 2019. The increased cost had no significant effect on attendance numbers. Students had the option of attending for a single day, multiple days, or the entire week. Students aged from 5 - 16 years participated in the programme and were divided into three groups based on experience level. The programme introduced students to the rules of table tennis and developed their basic table tennis skills.

Dinyar Irani, Eberhard Kleiser, and Patrick Low built strong relationships with schools and students, and promoted the programme to their network. The Association continued to maintain a School Holiday Coaching programme contact list and promoted directly to past attendees. The programme was primarily delivered by Eberhard Kleiser, Dinyar Irani, Hyo Joo Lee, and Patrick Low with contributions from Wei Zhong Jiang and Tianyi Li.

The programme was delivered over the course of one week (Monday – Friday) in each of the School Holidays. Eberhard Kleiser and Patrick Low developed a School Holiday Coaching programme template to improve the structure of the programme and ensure consistency of delivery. The number of students who attended each School Holiday Coaching was as follows: October 2018 – 88 students (from 63 students in 2017) January 2019 – 57 students (from 75 students in 2018) April 2019 – 75 students (from 76 students in 2018) July 2019 – 99 students (from 96 students in 2018)
