1 Hardware and exterior

1.1 Why does my phone not recognize my SIM card? 1. Your SIM card may not be inserted correctly. (i) Both SIM card slots on the Mate S only support nano-SIM cards. Please ensure you use a nano-SIM card with your phone. (ii) If you are currently using another type of SIM card, you should request a nano-SIM card from your network operator. Cut SIM cards are not recommended as they may have damaged contacts or fail to fit properly, which could lead to intermittent issues. The rough edges of a cut SIM card may also damage your phone. (iii) If you are using a nano-SIM card, please ensure it is inserted correctly, as shown below.

2. If your phone does not recognize your SIM card, or if recognition is intermittent, try following the steps below: (i) Verify that you are using a standard nano-SIM card. Standard nano-SIM cards have a ring of plastic insulation around the metal chip. If one side of this ring is missing, your card has previously been cut.

September 2015 10 INTERNAL

(ii) If you are using a SIM card that has been cut to size, it is strongly recommended that you request a standard nano-SIM card from your network operator. Cut SIM cards are not recommended as they may have damaged contacts or fail to fit properly, which could lead to intermittent issues. (iii) If you are using a SIM card that has been cut in store, it is recommended that you request a standard nano-SIM card from your network operator. Cut SIM cards are known to cause issues. (iv) If you are using an old SIM card, you can try wiping the metal contacts with alcohol to remove oxidation. If problems persist, you should request a new nano-SIM card from your network operator. (v) If you are using a China Telecom SIM card, this is only compatible with the custom China Telecom Mate S model (CRR-CL00/CL10). China Telecom SIM cards will not work with China Mobile or dual 4G SIM models. (vi) If none of the above apply, please take your phone and SIM card to a service center. Why must I use a standard nano-SIM card? The Mate S phone is designed to accept standard nano-SIM cards only. This is to prevent damage from the insertion of badly-cut SIM cards.

1.2 Manufacturing issues 1.2.1 Why is there a gap between the screen and bezel? Why is the gap uneven? 1. Due to material and manufacturing limitations, it is impossible to eliminate such gaps or make them perfectly even. 2. The gap between the screen and bezel conforms to industry quality standards (a gap no larger than 0.3 mm). Huawei phone housings exceed industry standards. 3. Try to insert two sheets of A4 paper (each 0.1 mm thick) into the gap to determine how wide it is. If you are unable to insert both sheets, the gap is less than 0.2 mm wide, which meets standards. If both sheets can be inserted into the gap, please take your phone to a Huawei service center. 1.2.2 Why does the camera flash catch on my hand? The camera flash is slightly recessed to prevent it from catching and causing injury. Please note that this does not affect performance. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty.

September 2015 11 INTERNAL

1.2.3 Why does the fingerprint reader catch on my hand? The fingerprint reader is slightly recessed and has rounded corners to prevent it from catching and causing injury. Please note that this does not affect performance. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty except when the product is new, out of the original packaging. 1.2.4 Why are the plastic antenna cutouts not flush with the rear cover? The Mate S is made using the same processes as the iPhone 6. During manufacturing, nonuniform polishing of metal and plastic parts can produce a slightly uneven finish. Please note that this does not affect performance. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.5 Why are there three faint marks either side of the earpiece on the Gold Mate S? In order to combine functionality and looks, the front indicator light, camera flash and ambient light sensor are covered with a translucent coating. Please note that this does not affect performance.

Note: If the user requests a replacement phone, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.6 Why do the power key and volume key protrude by different lengths from the phone? The power and volume keys are moving parts and are subject to manufacturing limitations. This means they are not entirely uniform. This issue is not considered a fault unless performance is affected.

September 2015 12 INTERNAL

Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty if it does not affect performance. 1.2.7 The paint has rubbed off my black/purple phone, leaving white marks visible. Why? 1. All phones are checked thoroughly for cosmetic defects before they are shipped. 2. Paint near micro-USB connectors, headset sockets, SIM card trays and pin holes is susceptible to scraping. Paint on the phone's rear housing can be rubbed off when the phone is placed on a table or in pockets. 3. The above issues are common to all dark-colored metal phone housings and are not considered faults unless they affect the functioning of the phone. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.8 The rear cover on the phone bends when pressed. Why? The thickness of phone batteries varies with charge. By design, there is a safety gap between the battery and rear cover. If the rear cover is pressed, there will be some movement, but this is entirely normal. Please rest assured that all Huawei phones must pass strict quality checks before they are shipped. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.9 The tempered glass screen protector has an uneven surface. Why? Screens are rigorously checked for defects before shipping. The phone features a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen which is highly scratch-resistant and can withstand ordinary scrapes and knocks. Additional screen protectors are not required. If users insist on using a tempered glass screen protector, it is recommended that they purchase the official Huawei super-thin (0.2 mm thick) tempered glass screen protector on Vmall. If the issue persists, users should take their phone to a Huawei service center where the official Huawei protector can be applied by a technician. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty if it does not affect performance. (Below is the method used by service center technicians to apply screen protectors. Telephone and online support staff should ignore this section.) Service center application method: If the surface of the 0.2 mm super-thin tempered glass screen protector is uneven, technicians should assist users as follows: Loosen the two screws located at the bottom of both sides of the phone. Squeeze out any air bubbles beneath the tempered glass screen protector. Replace the two old screws with new ones and tighten. Note: Service centers should keep T2 screwdriver bits for the aforementioned screws. T3 bits should also be kept in case screws are damaged during removal, in which case T3 bits should be used.

September 2015 13 INTERNAL

1.2.10 After some use, the phone's front and rear housing have dents. Why? 1. Huawei phones comply with industry quality standards and are checked rigorously before they are shipped. 2. The rear housing is made of aluminum alloy, which can be dented by hard impacts. It is recommended that you use a protective phone case. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.11 The rear camera lens cover is cracked or scratched. Why? 1. All lenses are rigorously checked for defects before shipping. Lens covers are made with sapphire glass which is scratch-resistant and can cope with ordinary scrapes and knocks. However, lens covers may crack or become scratched if struck by sharp, hard objects. 2. Users should use a protective case and keep their phone away from sharp or abrasive objects such as keys or grit. 3. In principle, the user is responsible for any post-sales damage caused to the rear lens cover. Such damage cannot be repaired under the warranty, but the camera lens can be replaced outside the warranty. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.12 Why is the rear flash cover recessed? The camera flash is slightly recessed to prevent it from catching and causing injury. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty. 1.2.13 Why is there a gap between the rear housing and the phone keys or SIM card tray? Why is the gap so wide or uneven? 1. The SIM card tray and keys are moving parts and are subject to material and manufacturing limitations. It is impossible to eliminate such gaps or make them perfectly even. 2. The gap conforms with industry quality standards (a gap no larger than 0.3 mm). 1.2.14 Why is there a gap between the rear housing and the flash cover? Why is the gap so wide or uneven? 1. Due to material and manufacturing limitations, it is impossible to eliminate such gaps or make them perfectly even. 2. The gap conforms with industry quality standards (a gap no larger than 0.3 mm). Huawei phone housings exceed industry standards.

September 2015 14 INTERNAL

1.2.15 Why is there a gap between the front and rear housing? Why is the gap so wide or uneven? 1. Due to material and manufacturing limitations, it is impossible to eliminate such gaps or make them perfectly even. 2. The gap conforms with industry quality standards (a gap no larger than 0.3 mm). Huawei phone housings exceed industry standards. 3. Try to insert two sheets of A4 paper (each 0.1 mm thick) into the gap to determine how wide it is. 2.3 What is multi-window mode and how do I enable it? Multi-window mode is also known as multi-screen mode. It allows you to run multiple apps concurrently on your phone. Currently, Huawei phones are able to display two screens at a time. Not all apps support this feature. Select Add to see a list of compatible apps. How to enable multi-screen mode: First enable Multi-screen from the drop-down shortcuts screen. Return to the home screen then touch and hold Recent to enter multi-screen mode.

Note: You can touch the Back key, Home key or Recent key to exit multi-screen mode.

2.4 What is encrypted SMS? Encrypted SMS is a highly secure, encrypted messaging service. When encrypted SMS is used, messages are encrypted on the sender's phone before being sent. Recipients must decrypt messages using their Huawei ID password before they can be read. This makes SMS messages much more secure. Messages are stored on servers in an encrypted form or are kept in the phone's secure storage module. In order to use encrypted SMS, both the sender and the recipient must use supported Huawei phones with the encrypted SMS feature enabled. To enable encrypted SMS, you must associate your phone number with a Huawei ID. A number can only be associated with one ID. An ID can be associated with more than one number. When you change your phone or SIM card, this account association will not be affected provided you retain your old number. 2.4.1 How do I activate encrypted SMS? First ensure you have a working data or Wi-Fi connection. Open the Menu beneath the message list and select Settings and then Attach signature to open the encrypted SMS menu. Enable the switch for the SIM card you wish to use and then follow the instructions to activate the encrypted SMS feature.

September 2015 19 INTERNAL

2.4.2 Encrypted SMS activation failed. Why? 1. Your phone needs to send SMS messages to activate this feature. Please check that you have sufficient calling credit. 2. Please ensure you have good phone reception when trying to activate the encrypted SMS feature. 2.4.3 When I send an encrypted message, the recipient only sees garbled text. Why? If the recipient's phone does not support the Huawei encrypted SMS feature, please use ordinary SMS. 2.4.4 I am unable to view encrypted messages. Why? Ensure that the SIM card used to receive messages is inserted and then try again. 2.4.5 Nothing happens when I select an encrypted SMS. Why? Users of phones produced by other manufacturers may be accustomed to opening encrypted messages with a single touch. On Huawei phones, users should open encrypted messages with a quick double touch. To open an encrypted message, users must touch the text inside the message dialog box, as shown below. If users only touch the edge of the box, the encrypted message will not be opened. If users report that they are unable to open encrypted messages, please check that they have touched the text inside the box.

September 2015 20 INTERNAL

2.4.6 The remaining characters counter to the right of the compose window is inaccurate. Why? The number of characters you type may not match the decrease shown by the remaining characters counter. This is because the total character count for a message may change after it is encrypted. The counter on the right shows the number of characters remaining after the message has been encrypted. 2.4.7 Why are some messages still garbled even after I decrypt them with my password? A password for one Huawei ID cannot be used to decrypt messages retrieved with a different Huawei ID. If you have used different Huawei IDs to retrieve encrypted messages during one session, you will not be able to use one Huawei ID password to decrypt all of them. For example: After retrieving an encrypted message using phone number XXX, you may change the SIM card (and associated Huawei ID) and retrieve another encrypted message using phone number YYY. When you open the message list and select an encrypted message, you will be prompted to enter your Huawei ID password. This password will only decrypt messages that were downloaded with the corresponding Huawei ID. 2.4.8 Why can't I copy or forward encrypted messages? Encrypted messages are sent, received and stored in an encrypted form. Recipients must decrypt messages using their Huawei ID password before they can be read. This makes SMS messages much more secure. Even if an encrypted message is copied or forwarded to another recipient, they will be unable to decrypt its contents. Therefore, in the interest of security, encrypted messages can only be viewed by you and cannot be copied or forwarded. 2.4.9 Why can't I always use my fingerprint to decrypt messages? To use fingerprint decryption, the following conditions must be met: 1. The Huawei ID used to receive the message must match the ID of the current SIM card. 2. The Huawei ID associated with the encrypted SMS feature must also have an associated fingerprint. 2.4.10 How do I back up and restore encrypted messages? For security reasons, when the user syncs encrypted messages to the cloud, they will be stored in an encrypted format on the remote server. Only the user who backed up the encrypted messages may download and decrypt them. To use the backup and restore feature, you must use a Huawei phone that supports encrypted SMS. The same Huawei ID must be used both to back up and restore. The user can use the backup feature to back up encrypted messages to their Huawei Cloud Drive. For security reasons, these will be stored on the remote server in encrypted form. Backed up messages can only be restored with the Huawei ID that was used to perform the backup. Users must log in using this ID on a Huawei phone that supports encrypted SMS and recover their messages. These can then be decrypted and viewed.

2.5 What is native 24-bit decoding? 24-bit audio offers higher resolution audio playback. All audio output on the Mate S's HiSilicon Kirin 935 chip is 24-bit.

September 2015 21 INTERNAL

Native decoding allows audio files to be decoded and played by your phone's digital signal processor (DSP), which currently supports MP3 and WAV files. This setup is called low-power audio playback and allows your phone to consume very little power while playing music. Low-power audio playback limitations: MP3: Low-power playback is supported for non-VBR, stereo MP3 files (videos not included) played through the earpiece, loudspeaker or a wired headset. MP3 files must be stored locally and have a duration of more than one minute (internet streams are not supported). Playback is not supported if other music players are using low-power playback mode or if there is an active phone call, internet call or VOIP call. The music player must be configured to play only audio files. WAV: Low-power playback is supported for stereo WAV files (videos not included) played through the earpiece, loudspeaker or a wired headset. WAV files must be stored locally and have a duration of more than one minute (internet streams are not supported). Playback is not supported if other music players are using low-power playback mode or if there is an active phone call, internet call or VOIP call. The music player must be configured to play only audio files. 2.5.1 If I need to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 110 dB, what sort of test file should I use? You should perform the test with a 24-bit WAV file. 2.5.2 When listening to music, how do I activate low-power audio playback to prolong battery life? Please refer to the above limitations for guidance on using low-power audio playback.

2.6 How can I print from my phone? Check that your printer supports the Mopria Print Service. You will not be able to the use the print feature if your printer does not support the Mopria Print Service, therefore be sure to check with your printer retailer before purchasing to ensure that you choose the correct model. Once you have confirmed that your printer supports the Mopria Print Service, you need to establish the connection with your printer. The connection is made using the default Mopria printing protocol. We recommend using the connection method outlined in (i) below for faster printing speeds and a better user experience. (i) Connect your phone directly to your printer. Turn the printer on, then enable the printer's Wi-Fi hotspot and configure the hotspot password, or use the default password. Enable Wi-Fi on your phone and connect to your printer's Wi-Fi hotspot. (ii) Connect to your printer via your wireless router. Turn the printer on, then enable Wi-Fi and connect your printer to the wireless router. Enable Wi-Fi on your phone and connect to your wireless router. (iii) Check that the connection was established properly.

September 2015 22 INTERNAL

After completing steps (i)/(ii) and (iii), go to Settings > Print > Mopria Print Service on your phone and enable the service (it should be enabled by default). A list of currently available printers will be displayed automatically. When printing photos, ensure that the size of your photo paper is compatible with your printer. 2.6.1 Why can't I find my printer on my phone? 1. Check that your printer supports the Mopria Print Service. 2. Check that the connection between your printer and your phone was configured correctly. 2.6.2 Can I use long-edge or short-edge binding to print double-sided photos? When you select long-edge or short-edge binding, the media type will automatically change to Document. 2.6.3 I am using an Epson L455. Why don't my photos print properly? This printer model is not yet fully compatible with your phone. We have already informed the manufacturer to resolve the issue.

2.7 Directional recording 2.7.1 How can I add text or photos to audio recordings? When recording, you can add a tag or take a photo to add to your recording. When you play back your recording, you can edit or add tags so that you can easily skip to the desired location.

September 2015 23 INTERNAL

2.7.2 What is directional recording? You can record in three different modes. The Meeting and Interview modes use three microphones to record sound from different directions. The direction of the sound is displayed on your phone during recording and playback. The Normal mode replaces the Concert mode on previous models and uses a sampling rate of 48 kHz.

Mode Number of Sampling rate Displays Displays Directional microphones direction during direction noise recording during reduction playback

Meeting 3 16 kHz Y Y Y

Interview 3 16 kHz Y Y Y

Normal 2 48K N N N

 Meeting mode Use this mode when holding meetings around a table. Your phone will automatically detect the direction of the loudest sound, and the phone can be configured to only record sound from that direction. When recording, keep the 3 microphones level with the meeting participants to ensure that the directionality feature works properly.

The phone will record sound from a maximum of eight directions. You can choose to play back sound from a specified direction.

September 2015 24 INTERNAL

 Interview mode In Interview mode, the phone only records sound from two directions and filters out all other sound. This mode is designed for face-to-face conversations such as interviews. When recording, keep the 3 microphones level with you to ensure that the directionality feature works properly.

 Normal mode This mode uses a sampling rate of 48 kHz and is designed for everyday voice/music recordings.

September 2015 25 INTERNAL

2.8 What are the features of the Pro camera mode? The Pro camera mode is new to the Mate S. It enables you to customize a selection of parameters and preview the results before taking a photo. This mode is ideal for photography enthusiasts who require enhanced functionality.

2.9 How do I enable the Pro camera mode? Launch the Camera app to access the viewfinder. Touch the menu icon in the top-right corner and then select Pro camera.

2.10 How can I view the properties of an image? Following the launch of EMUI 3.1, the option to view image properties is no longer located in the Gallery menu. To view the properties of an image, simply touch the "i" symbol when viewing an image. The file name, location, camera parameters and other image properties will be displayed.

2.11 Why doesn't the screen turn off when I place my phone next to my ear during a call? Ensure that your ear covers the proximity sensor. The screen will only turn off when the proximity sensor is covered. Keeping the earpiece level with your ear should resolve this issue. If the earpiece is not next to or level with your ear during a call and you do not touch the display, the screen will turn off automatically after a short period. Press the power key to turn the display back on.

September 2015 26 INTERNAL

2.12 There is condensation on my screen. Why does the screen turn off during a call when the proximity sensor is not covered? If there is condensation on the proximity sensor, the proximity sensor will be activated and the screen will turn off. Wipe any condensation off the proximity sensor to resolve the issue.

2.13 There is condensation on my screen. Why doesn't the touchscreen work? If you have enabled Touch-disable mode and there is condensation on your screen, you will not be able to use the touchscreen. Wipe off the condensation on your screen to exit Touch-disable mode.

2.14 Smart screenshot 2.14.1 What is smart screenshot? Smart screenshot is brand-new touch technology jointly developed by Huawei and Qeexo. This technology can distinguish touch operations by fingers or knuckles. Your phone includes this technology. You can double-touch any screen using your knuckles to achieve instant screenshot, which improves screenshot efficiency. You can also draw a circle on the screen using your knuckle to partially capture the screen. For example, to share a part of a WeChat record, circle the content using your knuckle to share it with others. 2.14.2 Are there any differences between screenshot using knuckles or composite buttons? No. 2.14.3 Why does my phone suddenly take a screenshot when I use it normally? Your phone takes a screenshot based on the instructions from your knuckles by detecting the screen touch capacity and gravity sensor signals. The probability of triggering the screenshot with fingers by mistake during normal use is extremely low. You may occasionally trigger screenshot if you continuously knock the screen hard with your nails. Make sure you use the phone normally, and do not knock the screen hard with your nails. 2.14.4 How do I partially capture the screen? On any screen, use the knuckle of any finger (such as the thumb or index finger) to touch the screen a little harder, and then draw a closed pattern without leaving the screen. After your phone successfully identifies the knuckle, it generates a blue track that moves along your knuckle's path.

September 2015 27 INTERNAL

*For reference purposes only. Your phone's interface may differ from the interface shown in this image. 2.14.5 Why can't I draw a track and partially capture a screenshot using my knuckle? Your phone implements partial screenshot based on the gravity sensor signals. If you only lightly draw a circle on the screen, even when you use your knuckle, your phone can't receive the signals. Rapidly draw a circle on the screen a little harder to achieve partial screenshot. Practice several times to master this operation. 2.14.6 How do I disable the Smart screenshots feature? Go to Settings > Motion control > Smart screenshots/Screen recording and turn off the switch. 2.14.7 Why do I fail to partially capture the screen even if I draw a circle? Successful screenshot using your knuckles depends on whether the circle is closed and whether any lines are crossed. If you draw a rectangle or a circle, screenshot is successful in most cases. However, if the shapes vary greatly from the algorithms, for example, 6, C, 8, and W, screenshot fails. Screenshot can be successful if an irregular polygon is closed, for example, a heptagon or a starfish. Practice more to master this operation. 2.14.8 Does smart screenshot affect the phone's standby time? The algorithm for identifying the knuckles is integrated on the hardware drive and consumes very little current. Therefore, it doesn't affect the standby time.

2.14.9 How do I share the screenshot using the smart screenshot function?

 For a full screen, touch Share and select a sharing mode.

 For a partial screen, touch and select a sharing mode. 2.14.10 How do I save or cancel the screenshot using the smart screenshot function?

 For a full screen, it is automatically saved.

 For a partial screen, touch in the upper right corner to save it or in the upper left corner to cancel it. 2.14.11 How do I edit the partially captured screen using the smart screenshot function?

After you partially capture a screen, you can touch to edit the picture:

 : adjust the size of the picture

 : fuzzy process the part you don't want to share

 : remove the added mosaic

September 2015 29 INTERNAL

*For reference purposes only. Your phone's interface may differ from the interface shown in this image. 2.14.12 Why can't I slide to answer an incoming call and why is there a light blue screenshot track on the screen? You may have accidentally triggered the smart screenshot function. Go to Settings > Motion control > Smart screenshots/screen recording. 2.14.13 How can I avoid accidentally triggering the smart screenshot function? Smart screenshot is easily triggered when:

 Your phone is set to vibrate when calls come in.  Music is played in speaker mode.  The alarm goes off in vibrate mode.  The video is played in speaker mode. If your phone vibrates when a call comes in or the alarm goes off, go to Settings > Sound and disable Vibration feedback or go to Settings > Motion control > Smart screenshots/smart recording and turn off smart screenshot. If music or video is played in speaker mode, turn off smart screenshot. 2.14.14 Why is there a light blue screenshot track when I perform operations on the screen? You may have accidentally triggered the smart screenshot function. Turn off smart screenshot or avoid touching the screen too hard.

September 2015 30 INTERNAL

2.14.15 Why can't I take consecutive multiple smart screenshots? After you take a smart screenshot, it needs to be processed in the background, which takes about 2 seconds. After the screenshot image automatically disappears, you can take another smart screenshot. 2.14.16 How can I capture square-shaped, circular, or heart-shaped screenshots? By default, the Smart screenshots feature will capture screenshots in the shape that you draw on the screen. Select one of the four icons in the top-right corner to change the screenshot shape. You can choose from square, circular or heart-shaped screenshots (as shown in the image below).

*For reference purposes only. Your phone's interface may differ from the interface shown in this image. 2.14.17 How do I enable the Knuckle Control feature? Go to Settings > Motion control > Draw, enable Draw and draw a letter to launch a predefined app (c, w, m or e). You can configure which letters correspond to which apps in the Draw settings.

2.15 Screen recording 2.15.1 How do I start and end a screen recording? 2.15.2 When I am using the Mini mode for screen recording, why does the recording consist of several files, each of around 10 MB? The Mini mode is designed to make it easier for users to share screen recordings quickly using instant messaging apps such as WeChat. Instant messaging apps place restrictions on the size of video files that can be sent to friends, e.g. WeChat, which does not allow files larger than 20 MB. Any videos larger than the app's limit will be compressed by the app, which significantly decreases the video resolution. Mini mode provides a solution to this issue by creating a new video file each time a recording file reaches a certain size (e.g. 19 to 20 MB). Due to the file size restrictions of many popular instant messaging apps, the size of each video file in Mini mode is 15 to 16 MB for models purchased outside of China. 2.15.3 Why is the resolution poor when using Mini mode for screen recording? As described in section 2.15.2 "When I am using the Mini mode for screen recording, why does the recording consist of several files, each of around 10 MB?", the Mini mode is designed to record videos that can be sent using instant messaging apps. The size of each video file is restricted to prevent instant messaging apps from compressing the video. If the resolution is set to high, a 19 to 20 MB file will only record a very short clip. If the resolution is set to high and there are no file size restrictions, the resolution will decrease significantly when the video is sent using an instant messaging app, as the app will compress the video to a lower resolution. We therefore opted for FWVGA resolution for clips recorded in Mini mode in order to keep the file size low and ensure an acceptable image quality. You can also record a screen recording using HD mode and then share your clip by uploading it onto a video-sharing website. 2.15.4 Why can't I record a video, make a voice recording, or send voice messages when I am using the screen recording feature? Your voice is recorded automatically when you make a screen recording. Starting a screen recording will turn on your phone's microphone. Android does not currently support the use of the microphone by more than one app at once. This means that you cannot record video, make a voice recording, send voice messages, or use other apps that require the use of the microphone when you are using the screen recording feature. Turn off screen recording if you wish to access these features. 2.15.5 Where are screen recording files stored? Why does my phone say that there is insufficient storage space when I still have space remaining on my microSD card (or internal storage)? Screen recording files are saved in the system's default storage location. You can change the default storage location by going to Settings > Device > Storage > Default storage. 2.15.6 Why does the screen recording end automatically? The screen recording will end automatically in the following circumstances:

 After 5 minutes of recording

September 2015 32 INTERNAL

Just like video recording, the screen recording feature involves processes such as audio and video encoding, which increase battery consumption. In addition, screen recording files also take up space on your phone's internal memory. A 5-minute screen recording is normally sufficient for most users. In order to avoid excessive battery consumption/large file sizes, the maximum screen recording time is restricted to 5 minutes.

 When you make/receive calls The screen recording feature will record your voice. In order to prevent any confidential information that you discuss during a call from being inadvertently disclosed when you share your screen recording online, your phone will automatically stop and then save your screen recording when you make/receive a call.

 When there is insufficient storage space When you have insufficient storage space (less than 50 MB), many of your phone's features may be restricted by the system and your phone may slow down significantly. The screen recording will stop automatically in order to prevent your phone from slowing down further and ensure that basic features (e.g. calling) continue to function properly.

 When the screen goes off due to inactivity or pressing the power key. Screen recordings will end automatically when the screen goes off to reduce power consumption.

 When your phone switches to Ultra power saving mode Ultra power saving mode is designed to be used when the battery level is low. In ultra power saving mode, you can only use your phone's basic features such as calling/messaging. All other features will be disabled. When this mode is enabled, your screen recording will be stopped and saved automatically. 2.15.7 I always need to wait for the timer to countdown before the screen recording starts. Is there a quicker way to start a screen recording? Touch the timer to skip the countdown and start recording immediately. 2.15.8 The screen recording timer button is obstructing the controls in my game. What can I do? You can drag the timer button to another location on the screen. 2.15.9 My screen recording failed to be shared over WeChat? Check that you followed the correct steps to share your video. We recommend that you touch the Share button, which you can find in the Gallery or by swiping down on the notification bar. Select WeChat to share your screen recording with your friends. If you use the "+" icon in WeChat to select your screen recording, WeChat will compress your video. If compression fails, your recording will not be sent. Even if your recording is sent, the resolution will decrease significantly due to compression. We therefore recommend that you do not use this method to send your videos in WeChat.

September 2015 33 INTERNAL

2.15.10 Motion control often fails to work properly when starting/stopping a screen recording. Why? Check that motion control is enabled for screen recording by going to Settings > Motion control > Smart screenshots/screen recording. Your phone's gravity sensor must register your knuckle gesture in order for the motion control feature to work properly. If you only touch very lightly on the screen, the gravity sensor will not register your gesture. Try touching slightly harder on the screen (similar to how you would knock on a door). Practice touching twice on the screen with two knuckles to start/stop screen recordings. 2.15.11 Why can't I play screen recordings in full-screen mode on my phone (or my friend's phone)? Make sure that you are using your phone's default video player. Some online video players are unable to detect the video orientation automatically, therefore you will not be able to play the video in full-screen mode. 2.15.12 Why doesn't the virtual navigation bar work when I'm playing a screen recording? Check whether the virtual navigation bar is part of the screen recording. Your phone's video player will automatically hide the virtual navigation bar during playback so that you can view your screen recording in full-screen mode. This means that the virtual navigation bar you see on the screen is actually part of the screen recording. If you want to access the phone's navigation bar during playback, simply touch the center of the screen. 2.15.13 When sending screen recordings in WeChat, why does WeChat need to compress the recording? Why does the resolution decrease? WeChat restricts the size of video files that are shared with friends to a maximum of 20 MB. When you record in HD mode, even a short recording is likely to exceed 20 MB, therefore WeChat will compress the file before it is sent. If you wish to share your screen recording using WeChat, we recommend that you select Mini mode to make your recording. This mode will use a lower bit rate (compared with HD mode, the quality will decrease slightly). In addition, the recording will be split into numerous files of no more than 19 to 20 MB each, enabling you to send each file in WeChat without the need to compress your recording.

2.16 Images 2.16.1 How can I preview a thumbnail? Go to the timeline view in Gallery, double tap the timeline or pinch two fingers together to access the month view, then apply pressure to a thumbnail to preview the image.

2.16.2 How much can I zoom in on an image preview? The preview can be enlarged up to the size of thumbnails in the week view.

September 2015 34 INTERNAL

2.16.3 Why does the size of image previews vary? When I release my finger, why doesn't the phone open the image? When you touch an image, the size of the image preview will vary between the size of month view thumbnails and week view thumbnails, depending on how much pressure you apply to the screen. When the size of the preview reaches its maximum (i.e. the size of a thumbnail in the week view), release your finger to open the image. If you release your finger before the preview reaches the maximum size, the image will not open. 2.16.4 How can I disable the preview feature in the month view? Go to Settings > Accessibility > Pressure sensing and then disable Image zoom. 2.16.5 Is the image preview feature in the month view still available when pressure sensing is disabled? On the Mate S Luxury model, thumbnails can be enlarged in the month view regardless of whether pressure sensing is enabled. discomfort, the amount of pressure required to activate the magnifying glass is smaller than the pressure sensitivity in the Pressure Sensing settings. 2.16.10 How much can I zoom in on an image? You can zoom in up to 10 times.

2.16.11 Why can't I use the magnifying glass for video thumbnails? This feature is not supported. Likewise, you cannot zoom in on a video thumbnail by stretching two fingers apart. 2.16.12 Why can't I access the magnifying glass on an image when Image zoom is enabled? Please note the following requirements for accessing the magnifying glass on an image: 1. Your phone must support pressure sensing. 2. The Image zoom feature must be enabled. 3. The pressure you apply to the screen must reach the required value. 4. You cannot use the magnifying glass for video files. 5. The image properties must not be open. 6. The image must be open and displayed in its original size (not zoomed in or out) and in the center of the screen. 2.16.13 What is the layout of the navigation controls used for pressure sensing? If you choose to remove the navigation bar from the screen and use pressure sensing, the three navigation keys are arranged in a 3:2:3 layout. The Home key is always in the center and occupies 2/8 of the screen. The position of the Back and Recent keys will change depending on the navigation bar settings.

When you press the area for the Back key, the following animation will be displayed:

When you press the area for the Recent key, the following animation will be displayed:

September 2015 37 INTERNAL

When your phone registers that you are applying pressure to the screen, you will see a circular animation. This indicates that you need to apply more pressure. Once the pressure reaches the required threshold, the animation will disappear, indicating that you successfully pressed the corresponding navigation key. 2.16.15 How can I ensure that my phone accurately registers my pressure touch on the navigation bar? Try to reach the required pressure quickly to reduce the possibility of your phone incorrectly registering your pressure touch. 2.16.16 How do I enable pressure sensing for the navigation bar? To use pressure sensing for the navigation bar, you must first ensure that your phone supports this feature (Luxury version only). Then go to your phone's settings and follow the steps below: 1. 2.17 Weather 2.17.1 Do weather vibration alerts work with third-party weather apps? Weather vibration alerts are only supported by the Huawei default weather app. 2.17.2 Why aren't there any vibration alerts when I open the Huawei default weather app? Weather vibration alerts will only work when sound effects are enabled. Your phone will only vibrate for four types of weather (thunderstorm, rain, wind and sandstorm). Your phone will vibrate and play sound effects when you view the weather for a city (if the weather is one of the types listed above). Sound effects only last for a few seconds and your phone will stop vibrating when the sound effects finish. 2.17.3 Why doesn't my phone vibrate when I select a contact in my phonebook? Your phone will only vibrate when you swipe through the letters A-Z on the right-hand side and a new letter is reached. 2.17.4 Why doesn't my phone vibrate when I select "previous station" or "next station" in the FM radio? When using the FM radio, your phone will only vibrate when you move the red dot along the slider to adjust the frequency. 2.17.5 When I receive an incoming call, why doesn't my phone vibrate in time with the ringtone for downloaded ringtones? Your phone will only vibrate in time with the ringtone when you use one of the 16 preset ringtones. For other ringtones, your phone will use the standard Android vibration settings. 2.17.6 When I receive an incoming call, why aren't there any special vibration effects when my phone is in silent mode? Special vibration effects are designed for each preset ringtone, so if your phone is in silent mode, your phone cannot vibrate in time with the ringtone and will use the standard Android vibration settings.

3.1 Does my phone support NFC? Yes.

3.2 Why does my NFC SIM card often fail to be detected when I swipe my phone? Check that your SIM card supports NFC-SWP. Check that all switches are enabled under Settings > More > NFC and that SIM 1 is selected for NFC payment. Check that you have installed the carrier's payment app (such as those for China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom) and that you have correctly configured the default payment card in the app's settings. The location of antenna in subway turnstiles may vary. When passing through a subway turnstile, try swiping your phone in a different place if your NFC SIM card is not detected. When swiping your phone on a bus, swipe your phone over the center of the card reader. If you are using a China Mobile NFC SIM card at Shanghai Metro stations, please note that you can only swipe your SIM card on turnstiles that feature a green China Mobile label. If your SIM card is not detected, try using another card reader or POS terminal. If your card is detected, this means that the first card reader/POS terminal is incompatible with your SIM card. Please inform us of any compatibility issues so that we can continue to enhance the NFC feature. If you cannot pass through a subway turnstile, you may not have exited the turnstile correctly after your previous journey. If so, go to the information desk at the subway station for assistance.

3.3 How do I select an NFC payment method? 1. After you have installed some payment apps, an icon for each app will be displayed when you swipe your phone to make a payment. Select the app that you wish to use to make the payment.

2. If you have not installed any apps, a link to an online help page will be displayed when you swipe your phone to make a payment. Please note that this link may not work properly in China, as the webpage is hosted on a server.

3.4 Which card slots support NFC? The phone's internal SIM card slot supports NFC. Please insert your NFC-enabled SIM card into the slot correctly.

3.5 What is fingerprint identification? Fingerprint identification is a highlight of your phone. It enhances your phone's information security and provides shortcut operations. When you power on your phone for the first time, follow the onscreen instructions to configure fingerprint identification settings. Fingerprint identification includes Touch control and Fingerprint ID. Touch control: You can touch, touch and hold, and swipe on the fingerprint sensor to operate your phone without entering your fingerprint. You can answer calls, take photos, record videos, stop alarms, open the notification panel, or view photos using the fingerprint sensor. Fingerprint ID: You can unlock the screen, access the safe, and access the app lock feature by entering your fingerprint instead of the password. You can also use it on third-party applications that support fingerprint identification. You need to enable the PIN unlock or mixed password unlock method for fingerprint identification.

3.6 How do I configure Touch control? Go to Settings > Fingerprint ID. Under Touch control, select the functions you want. The take photos/videos, open notification panel, and view photos options are enabled by default. Other options need to be enabled manually.

3.7 Why can't I answer calls using my fingerprint? When there is an incoming call and you press the power key accidentally, if the screen doesn't turn on, you can't answer the call using your fingerprint.

3.8 Why can't I answer calls, take photos, or stop alarms using my fingerprint? To answer calls, take photos, or stop alarms using your fingerprint, you need to touch and hold the fingerprint sensor for at least 1 second.

3.9 How do I unlock the screen using my fingerprint? Go to Settings > All > Privacy & passwords > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management. When you access Fingerprint management for the first time, you need to create a screen-lock password. Then follow the onscreen instructions to enroll your fingerprints. After your fingerprints are enrolled, the fingerprint unlock feature is enabled automatically. You can also set it manually under Fingerprint management.

3.10 Why do I need to set a password before I add a fingerprint? For security reasons, you must set a password so that you will be able to unlock your phone if your fingerprint is not recognized.

3.11 How do I access the safe using my fingerprint? You can access the safe using your fingerprint and the password after Access safe is enabled. Go to Settings > All > Privacy & passwords > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management and enter the unlock password. You need to enter the password for the safe before enabling Access safe. If you haven't created a safe, the screen to enable the safe will be displayed. You can create a safe and set a password. After that you can enable Access safe. 3.13 How do I use my fingerprint for my Huawei ID? When you enable fingerprint recognition for your Huawei ID, you can use your fingerprint instead of entering the password. Go to Settings > All > Privacy & passwords > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management, enter your unlock password and then turn on the Access Huawei ID switch. You will be prompted to enter the password for your Huawei ID. If you are not logged into your Huawei ID, you will be directed to the Huawei ID login page. After you have entered your user name and password you will be able to turn on fingerprint recognition for your account.

3.14 How many fingerprints can I save? You can save up to five fingerprint templates under Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management. If you go to Settings > Security > Privacy protection and enable privacy protection, you can create a fingerprint template for visitors. When you access the phone in visitor mode, you can save another five fingerprint templates under Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management. To check all the fingerprint templates in both owner and visitor modes, go to Settings > Security > Privacy protection, enter the password, and select Manage fingerprints. When a finger touches the fingerprint sensor, the corresponding fingerprint template is highlighted in the template list.

3.15 When I record a fingerprint, my phone displays a message saying the fingerprint already exists. However, this fingerprint is clearly not in the fingerprint list. After I clean up the list, this problem persists. Why? Check whether you have enabled privacy protection and associated it with fingerprint identification. Visitor fingerprints configured under Privacy protection will not be displayed under Settings > All > Privacy & passwords > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management > Fingerprint list. Even if privacy protection is disabled, the system will not delete the visitor fingerprint data. For fingerprints already recorded in visitor mode, when they're recorded again, your phone will display a message that says the fingerprints already exist. You need to delete visitor fingerprints manually. Go to Settings > Privacy & passwords > Security > Privacy protection, enter the owner password for privacy protection (if privacy protection is disabled, the system will ask you to create a password). On the privacy protection settings screen, touch Fingerprint management > Visitor fingerprint and delete unwanted fingerprint templates (when a finger touches the fingerprint sensor, the corresponding fingerprint template is highlighted in the template list).

September 2015 46 INTERNAL

3.16 Why can I still turn the Unlock screen switch on/off when there are no fingerprints in the fingerprint list? Check whether you have enabled Privacy protection and added a visitor fingerprint. If the owner has not added any fingerprints, a visitor fingerprint can still be added to unlock the screen and enter visitor mode, therefore the screen lock switch can still be turned on/off. To view the list of visitor fingerprints, go to Settings > Privacy & passwords > Security > Privacy protection, then enter the screen unlock password and touch Manage fingerprints.

3.17 My phone vibrates when fingerprint unlock fails. Can I disable this feature? No. The vibration is a reminder to tell you your phone cannot be unlocked using fingerprint.

3.18 Is there any limit to the number of unsuccessful fingerprint unlocks? If your phone is locked with its screen on, your phone will vibrate when unsuccessful fingerprint unlock occurs and display a message indicating that fingerprint unlock has failed. If fingerprint unlock fails three times in a row, an onscreen keyboard will be displayed where you can unlock the screen using a password. If fingerprint unlock fails six times in a row, a message indicating that you can try again 30s later will be displayed. You can also enter a password to unlock the screen. If your phone is locked with its screen off, the phone will vibrate but the screen will not be turned on when unsuccessful fingerprint unlock occurs. You can try fingerprint unlock up to 30 times. If you still fail to unlock the screen, the screen will be turned on and a message indicating that you can try again 30s later will be displayed. You can also enter a password on the onscreen keyboard to access your phone.

3.21 Why can't I use my fingerprint to authenticate a payment in Alipay? 1. Check that you are using the latest version of Alipay (8.6 or above). To check the version number, launch the Alipay app, then go to Wealth > Settings > About.

*For reference purposes only. Your phone's interface may differ from the interface shown in this image. Alternatively, go to Settings> Manage apps, then go to the All tab and touch Alipay to view the app information. 2. Launch the Alipay app, then go to Wealth > Settings > Fingerprint and check whether the fingerprint switch is turned on. If a prompt such as "Please install (or update) fingerprint first" appears, touch OK. Your phone will download and install the necessary software in the background (make sure that your phone is connected to the Internet). Once the necessary software has been installed, follow the onscreen instructions to associate your fingerprint with your Alipay account. (1) When authenticating a payment with your fingerprint, ensure that you use the same fingerprint that you associated with your account. You can only use one fingerprint to authenticate an Alipay payment, even if you have registered more than one fingerprint on your phone. (2) If you delete the fingerprint that you associated with your Alipay account from your phone, you will need to reassociate your fingerprint the next time you make a payment, even if you re-register the fingerprint on your phone.

3.22 Why can't I find the fingerprint settings in Alipay? 1. Visit the official Alipay website and download the latest version of the Alipay app. 2. Go to Wealth > Settings > Fingerprint and configure the settings.

3.23 Why can't I unlock my phone using my fingerprint? 1. Go to Settings > Fingerprint ID and check whether you have enrolled your fingerprint. 2. If you have enrolled your fingerprint, go to Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management and check whether Unlock screen has been enabled. 3. Make sure you use the correct finger to unlock your phone. For example, if you have enrolled the fingerprint of your index finger but use the middle finger to unlock your phone, your phone can't be unlocked.

3.24 Why does the fingerprint unlock feature frequently fail to work properly? The fingerprint sensor on Huawei phones is designed to work at temperatures ranging from –20℃ to +75℃. If the fingerprint sensor fails to recognize your fingerprint, this is usually due to the ambient conditions. This problem is normally observed during cold periods when the finger's skin is susceptible to peeling, causing temporary changes in the shape of your fingerprint. In addition, the fingerprint sensor may also not work properly late at night or when you wake up in the morning due to changes in the depth of fingerprint ridges caused by dry fingers and slow circulation. 1. Check whether the skin on your finger is dry, peeling or damaged. The fingerprint sensor is designed to work at temperatures ranging from –20℃ to +75℃. Solutions: Use another finger. Use skincare products to keep your skin moist and prevent it from peeling or cracking. If you are suffering from dry skin, exercising or using warm water to wash your hands can help relieve the problem. 2. Check whether the surface of the fingerprint sensor is dirty. Clean it if necessary. 3. If the fingerprint sensor is still not working properly, check whether your phone vibrates when you use the sensor. If so, this means your phone did not recognize your fingerprint and the screen was not unlocked. Solutions: Try to cover the whole of the fingerprint sensor with your fingertip. You can record six images for each fingerprint - two for the center of each fingerprint (the most commonly used part) and four for the surrounding areas. The greater the surface area you record, the greater the accuracy of the fingerprint sensor. Try registering your fingerprint again following the steps above. When registering your fingerprint, avoid using the same area of your finger for each of the six images.

3.25 Why does it takes a long time to unlock the screen after my phone has been used for a certain period? 1. Your fingers may become dry in autumn and winter. In this case, you can press your finger against the fingerprint sensor more strongly and keep your finger moderately humid by blowing hot air on it or washing it. 2. Blood circulation slows when you sleep and the fingerprint pattern gets shallower. Even though the fingerprint characteristics remain unchanged, it may feel smoother. In this case, you need to press harder. 3. The working temperature of the fingerprint sensor is from –20°C to +75°C.

3.26 Why does my phone fail to read my fingerprint? 1. Your phone may fail to read your fingerprint if your finger is too dry, sweaty, wet, or is damaged. Wipe your finger and try again. If your fingers are dry, you may need to press your finger against the sensor more strongly. 2. You can try enrolling your fingerprint again. While you are enrolling your fingerprint, use the gesture you often use, enroll as many fingerprint areas as possible, and avoid enrolling the same area of your fingerprint, so the enrolled fingerprint image will be consistent with that read by your phone when you press your finger against the fingerprint sensor. 3. Make sure the finger area you press against the fingerprint sensor is the same as the one you enrolled on your phone. It is recommended you use the gesture you often use when you enroll your fingerprint.

3.27 What can I do to successfully unlock the screen if my fingers are dry? When your fingers are dry naturally, in dry seasons (autumn and winter) or in plateau areas, during rest, or after you carry heavy objects, you may fail to unlock the screen using your fingerprint. Fingerprints increase the friction between your finger and the object you want to touch. If your fingerprint is too dry, the friction will decrease. Solution: 1. Press your finger against the fingerprint sensor more strongly. 2. Keep your fingers moderately humid by blowing hot air onto them or washing them.

3.28 What can I do to successfully unlock the screen if my fingers are wet or sweaty? If your fingers are sweaty or still wet after you wash your hands, you may fail to unlock the screen using your fingerprint. To solve this problem: Wipe your fingers with tissues and ensure your fingers are free of water or sweat.

September 2015 52 INTERNAL

3.29 Why do people whose fingerprint patterns are shallow often fail to unlock the screen using the fingerprint? Female and children's fingers are slim and their fingerprint patterns are shallow. 1. Slim fingers may not be able to touch the edges of the fingerprint sensor, which may result in an incorrect fingerprint image collection. The edges of your phone's fingerprint sensor provide a weak but stable electricity signal. When a finger touches the edges, the sensor generates sensing capacitance on its surface to produce the fingerprint image. If the finger doesn't touch the edges properly, the image quality may be poor. 2. Shallow fingerprint patterns may also cause poor quality fingerprint images. To solve this problem: Use the finger pad to cover the whole fingerprint sensor and its edges to enroll clear and stable fingerprints.

3.30 Why does the fingerprint sensor often fail to recognize my fingerprint and respond slowly when I'm unlocking the screen? Circulation in your fingers will deteriorate in high-altitude locations, when sedentary or when lifting heavy objects, resulting in dry skin and therefore slight changes to the shape of your fingerprint. Refer to the solutions for dry skin above, e.g. press slightly harder on the fingerprint sensor and keep your skin moist by breathing onto your fingers or washing your hands and then wiping them dry.

3.31 Why does my phone read my fingerprint slowly in winter or when the weather is dry? Your fingerprint changes with different environmental elements, such as temperature, humidity, acidity, and oiliness. Fingerprint enrolling and reading are also affected by fingerprint patterns. Before enrolling your fingerprint, clean your fingers. Keep your fingers in a moderate humidity and moist condition. For example, if your fingers are too dry, your phone may fail to identify your fingerprint. If your fingers are sweaty, it is recommended you use tissues to wipe them before you unlock the screen. If your fingers are dry, you may need to press your finger against the sensor more strongly.

3.32 Why can I unlock the screen using other fingerprints? 1. Other fingers may have accidentally touched the fingerprint sensor when you were registering. You can register six fingerprint images in total. However, it is recommended you do not register multiple fingerprints for the same mode. 2. You may have registered the fingerprints in visitor mode. If privacy protection is enabled, go to Settings > Security > Privacy protection > Fingerprint Management to check.

September 2015 53 INTERNAL

3. If the problem persists, delete all the fingerprints in owner and visitor modes, restart your phone, and register your fingerprints again.

3.33 Why can I only unlock my phone with my fingerprint after I restart it? Check how often this occurs. This problem is caused by a software defect rather than the hardware of the fingerprint sensor or your phone. Please pay attention to the follow-up version instructions.

3.34 Why can't I unlock the screen using my fingerprint? Why can't I find the fingerprint option under Settings? If you can't unlock your screen using your fingerprint, go to Settings > Privacy & security and check whether there is a fingerprint ID option. If not, restart your phone and check whether the fingerprint ID option exists. If you can't find the fingerprint ID option under Settings, take your phone to a Huawei service center.

3.35 Why can't I unlock the screen using my fingerprint when my phone is connected to another brand charger? Please use the standard charger that comes with your phone. Non-standard chargers have different anti-interference capabilities. The interference from the power supply will affect the performance of the fingerprint sensor.

3.36 Why can I unlock my screen even if my finger is not perfectly aligned with the fingerprint sensor? Your phone's fingerprint sensor has an identification angle of 360 degrees, so it can read your fingerprint even if your finger is not perfectly aligned with the sensor.

3.37 Can anyone access my fingerprint information? Your fingerprint information is stored independently within the hardware package. No one can read the fingerprint information, and the fingerprint information will not be uploaded to any server. This storage mechanism contributed to our cooperation with Alipay in establishing industrial standards for a fingerprint-based payment system.

September 2015 54 INTERNAL

3.38 Why do I have to register my fingerprint several times and at different angles? Your phone can record a large area of your fingerprint when you register it several times at different angles, making it easier for your phone to read. For example: If you register four different areas of your fingerprint, you can use any one of them to unlock your phone. When you register your fingerprint, the screen will tell you to record the center and edges of your finger several times. Your phone has a fingerprint identification angle of 360 degrees. Press your finger against the sensor at any angle to register it. Multiple fingerprint images will be registered. If any image does not register, your phone will ask you to do it again. 2. The fingerprint sensor is pressure-sensitive. There is a weak signal surrounding the depressed fingerprint identification area. When you press your finger against this area, your fingerprint is transmitted to the contact surface for identification. For female users, use the finger pad to press the fingerprint sensor and make sure the edges of your finger are fully enrolled to make it easier to unlock. 3. Fingers may be dry or wet (oily or sweaty). If your finger is dry, to avoid unclear fingerprint images, you need to press your finger against the fingerprint sensor more strongly. If your finger is wet, sweaty, or oily, it is recommended you use tissues to wipe your fingers before you enroll your fingerprint. 4. If the fingerprint sensor or your finger is dirty, your phone may fail to read your fingerprint. Check that there is no dust, sweat, or other smudges on your finger or the fingerprint sensor. Clean the fingerprint sensor, if necessary.

3.39 Why doesn't my fingerprint register successfully? 1. Don't move your finger while you are registering it. 2. Keep your finger clean and dry. When registering your fingerprint, press it down as you would normally, and make sure the whole surface area of your finger is recorded.

3.40 Why can't I use my fingerprint to unlock my phone when a third-party screen lock application starts? To ensure fingerprint security, your phone's fingerprint service is not open to, and can't be used on third-party applications.

3.41 Why can't I unlock my phone or register my fingerprint when I swipe my finger on the fingerprint sensor? Your phone's fingerprint sensor is pressure-sensitive. You only need to slightly press your finger against the sensor to unlock the screen or register your fingerprint. Don't scratch the fingerprint sensor.

September 2015 55 INTERNAL

3.42 How do I unlock the screen when I am not able to use the fingerprint feature? If your phone doesn't recognize your fingerprint or you are unable to use the fingerprint unlock feature, you can access file safe by entering your preset password.

3.44 How do I access the App lock when I am not able to use the fingerprint feature? After enabling App lock in Phone Manager, you will be prompted to set an App lock password and enable fingerprint unlocking. On the App lock screen, place your finger on the fingerprint sensor to access it. If your phone doesn't recognize your fingerprint or you are unable to use the fingerprint unlock feature, you can access App lock by entering your preset password.

3.45 How do I delete the fingerprints registered on my phone? Go to Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management and enter the unlock password. Select the fingerprints you want to delete in the fingerprint list and touch Delete. You can also access the phone using the owner password. Go to Settings > Security > Privacy protection and enter the owner password. Touch Fingerprint management and check all the fingerprints registered in owner mode and visitor mode.

3.46 How can I disable fingerprint unlock? 1. Go to Settings, then touch Screen lock & passwords > Password and follow the onscreen instructions to enter the screen unlock password. In the lock screen settings, select None or Pattern to disable fingerprint unlock. 2. Alternatively, go to Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management, enter your screen unlock password and then turn off the Unlock screen switch. 3.
