Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . 1.2 Our analysis During the last six months of 2020 and the first six months of 2021, nPerf users have performed 375 183 tests with the nPerf mobile app. MegaFon confirms its first position. At nPerf, we consider that measuring the speed of an Internet connection is not enough and doesn’t reflect the reality of the user experience. We take into account of all categories (speed, latency, Browsing and streaming on YouTube) to estimate the quality of an Internet connection. So, according to our measurements, MegaFon has provided the best mobile Internet performance among the local mobile networks during the last twelve months. Although its latency remains the worst of all (despite a slight improve), MegaFon has kept its leadership by providing the best download speed (close to 24 Mb/s), the best upload speed (close to 7 Mb/s), as well as the best streaming performance (65%), amongst others. MTS Mobile comes back to the second place This operator, in the second place on every major indicator, is yet a bit closer from the winner. Its results been better than Tele2’s this time, and MTS could soon surprise its competitors : if only the 4G / 4G+ connection rates were better for MTS, the upcoming months could turn much more unpredictable. Tele2 still in the game, but needs to do better 3 Tele2 has delivered correct performances too, but its final score is lower than a year ago. This operator has indeed the best results regarding the latency and the browsing performance, but is frequently on the third step elsewhere, and even the last when it comes to the upload average speed. Tele 2 needs to improve its download and upload speed to remain the serious competitor it is used to be. nPerf Conclusion Russian mobile operators are fighting hard to deliver the best network performance, and it's good for Russians. After the COVID-19 crisis, the performance of mobile Internet is not recovering that fast. The scores are once again very tight, let’s then keep a closer look within the next six months. The race will surely be exciting to follow. Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . 2 Overall results Results from all cell generations taken from tests carried out on 4G-compatible terminals. 2.1 Data amount and distribution The nPerf application allows the user to perform a full test or each test separately. Between July 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021, we counted 375 183 tests, distributed as follows, after filtering: Technology Speed Browsing Streaming 2G/3G/4G 149 364 60 602 37 949 The overall breakdown of the tests per provider is as follows: MTS MegaFon 26.13% 29.21% Beeline Tele2/RosTelecom 24.16% 20.51% 4 2.2 2G/3G/4G Success rate The success rate is the number of successful tests compared to the number of tests performed. Tele2 has recorded the best success rate in the second semester of 2020 and the first of 2021, all mobile technologies combined. Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . 2.3 2G/3G/4G download speed The highest value is the best. MegaFon has provided the best mobile download speed in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021. 5 This graph illustrates the ability of providers to maintain a constant download speed during the period, regardless of network load (number of connected end-users). The figures have globally increased with all operators until March. MegaFon has kept its clear lead all along the period.. Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . 2.4 2G/3G/4G Upload speed The highest value is the best. MegaFon has provided the best mobile upload speed in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021. 6 This graph illustrates the ability of providers to maintain a constant upload speed during the period, regardless of network load (number of connected end-users). Throughputs have increased with all operators across the period, until April 2021. Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . 2.5 2G/3G/4G Latency The lowest value is the best. Tele2 has provided the best mobile latency in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021. 2.6 2G/3G/4G Browsing test Average performance of the loading times of the 5 websites most frequented by Internet users in Russia (excluding YouTube). 7 The highest value is the best. From July 2020 to June 2021, Tele 2, MegaFon and MTS have provided the best performance in mobile Internet browsing. Any use of this document, in whole or in part, for promotional or advertising purposes in any form whatsoever, is subject to the prior written permission of nPerf SAS . These browsing rates seem stable in comparison to the first half of 2020. Only Beeline seems to lag behind its competitors during the whole period. 2.7 2G/3G/4G Streaming test Measuring the quality of watching a video on the YouTube streaming platform. 8 The highest value is the best. During the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021, MegaFon has provided the best performance in mobile video streaming. 2.8 4G and 4G+ connection rates nPerf data is used to determine the 4G and 4G + connection
