Use Shortcuts to Access Frequently Used Features

If you touch and hold an app icon and no shortcut is created, the app does not support home screen shortcuts.

Each app supports up to four frequently used features. These are preset by the app and cannot be changed.

Quickly access frequently used app features: Touch and hold an app icon, and then touch a frequently used feature to access it. For example, to take a selfie, touch and hold the icon, and then touch Selfie in the pop-up menu to create a selfie shortcut.

Add shortcuts to your home screen: Touch and hold an app icon on your home screen to bring up the menu. Touch and hold the desired feature and drag it to your home screen to create a shortcut. For example, you can add a shortcut for the camera"s selfie feature to the home screen.

Unable to adjust View mode by sliding left or right

There are three View mode options: Small, Medium (Default), and Large. To specify View mode, select an option based on your preferences.

How do I clear application cache files?

Open Settings and touch Manage apps. Under the All tab, select the applications whose cache you wish to clear and touch Clear cache. The following figure uses clearing the browser cache as an example.

Customize App Permissions to Use Your Phone Your Way

Worried about third-party apps obtaining too many important permissions and disclosing your personal information? You can monitor the permissions of each app and deny unwanted permissions.

Disabling a permission may cause an app function to become unavailable. For example, if the location permission for a map app is disabled, the app will be unable to provide you with location and navigation services.

Set app permissions: Want to deny unwanted permissions? Open Settings, and go to Apps > Apps , select the app and touch Permissions on the App info screen and then enable or disable the unwanted permissions.

Check and modify permissions: Want to check which apps are allowed important permissions?

Open Settings and touch Apps > Permissions , select the permission you want to view and touch the switch next to an app to allow or deny the permission for that app.

Update the Phone System Online

Applicable products: Honor 8X

 Before installing the update, connect your Phone to the Internet. Online updates consume mobile data, so it is recommended that you use a Wi-Fi network.  Make sure that the battery level remains above 30% during the update.  Using unauthorized third-party software to update your Phone may damage your Phone or put your personal information at risk. You are advised to update your Phone online or bring your Phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Customer Service Center for updates.  Back up important data before updating your Phone.  After the update, certain third-party apps, such as e-banking and game apps, may be incompatible with the new system. Regularly update such third-party apps to fix compatibility issues.

1. Open Settings. 2. Go to System > Software update . When the system detects a new version, go to New version > DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL.

To disable system updates, go to and disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi.

Phone updates take some time. Do not perform any operations during the update. After an update, your Phone will automatically restart.

Weather widget stops displaying my location

Cause:

You may have accidentally disabled Current location or set Home city to None.

Solution:

Perform the following:

EMUI 5.X and 8.X: Open Weather, touch in the upper left corner, then touch Weather widget.

EMUI 9.X: Open Weather and touch Weather widget.

Enable Current location and directly add your Home city. The Weather widget can display information for the Current location and Home city at the same time.

Note: On Magic UI 2.1, Weather Widget is changed to Weather.

Unable to return to the previous screen by touching the front navigation button

Scenario 1: One key mode is in use.

Problem:

When One key mode is in use, touching the front navigation button brings up the recent tasks screen instead of the previous app screen.

Cause:

The swiping distance for the front navigation button is too long, causing the recent tasks screen to open.

Solution:

Touch the front navigation button without swiping on it to return to the previous screen.

You can also switch to Three keys mode and touch the left/right side of the front navigation button to return to the previous screen.

Scenario 2: Three keys mode is in use.

Problem:

In Three keys mode, when the user touches the fingerprint sensor to enroll their fingerprint, the fingerprint enrollment screen unexpectedly closes.

Cause:

When enrolling your fingerprint in Three keys mode, it is possible to inadvertently touch the left/right side of the front navigation button, which closes the fingerprint enrollment screen.

Solution:

You are advised to avoid touching the sides of the front navigation button during the fingerprint enrollment process.

You can also switch to One key mode to complete the fingerprint enrollment.

Scenario 3: Gestures is in use. Problem:

The front navigation button does not work when Gestures is enabled.

Cause:

By design, the front navigation button does not work when Gestures is enabled. The virtual navigation keys are not displayed either.

Solution:

 Navigation gestures work as follows: o Home screen: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen. o Back: Swipe inward from the left or right edge of the screen. o Recent tasks: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold.  You can switch to another navigation method that you prefer. (Open Settings, and search for System navigation.)

Phone lags when I preview or take a photo in low-light conditions

Scenario 1: The viewfinder is slow to respond in low-light conditions.

Cause:

In low-light conditions, the decreases, which causes the viewfinder to lag.

Solution:

Move to an area with better lighting conditions or enable Flash.

Scenario 2: The camera is slow to respond when you take a photo.

Cause:

 In low-light conditions, the camera processes the image to improve the image quality. This may take a few seconds to complete.  Too many apps are running in the background, leading to a high CPU usage rate.

Solution:

 Enable Flash and touch the screen to bring the image into focus. This reduces the time required by the camera to process the image.  Charge your phone if the battery is less than 20%. Otherwise, your phone will downgrade its performance to extend the battery life, causing your phone to lag.  Third-party photography apps may conflict with the preinstalled Camera app of your phone. Uninstall any third-party photography apps.  Clear background apps.  Restart your phone.  Clear the Camera cache.

EMUI 5.X or earlier: Go to Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage.

EMUI 8.X: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Camera > Storage.

EMUI 9.0: Go to Settings > Apps > Apps > Camera > Storage.

Touch CLEAR DATA and CLEAR CACHE.

 Open Phone Manager (or Optimizer) and touch Cleanup to perform a cleanup.  If the issue persists, back up your data and restore your phone to its factory settings, or update your phone system to the latest version and try again.

Magazine unlock does not work or switch between images

1. Verify that Magazine unlock has been enabled:

EMUI 8.X and earlier: Open Settings, and search for Lock screen style. Set Lock screen style to Magazine unlock.

EMUI 9.0 and later: Open Settings, and search for Magazine unlock. Then enable Magazine unlock. If this menu can"t be found, go to Themes > Me > Customize > Lock screen style > Magazine unlock > Apply to enable Themes.

2. If the Lock screen style images do not switch, swipe up from the bottom of the lock screen, and check the or icon (the leftmost one in the first row) to see if image lock is enabled. If so, touch the icon to cancel image lock.

App icons are rearranged when I unlock the screen

Cause:

 You may have enabled the Shake to realign feature. This feature automatically rearranges home screen icons when you shake your phone.  You may have rearranged your home screen icons in Guest mode. These changes will not be saved when you use your phone in Owner mode.

Solution:

 Touch and hold a blank area on the home screen to enter editing mode. Touch Settings or Home screen settings and disable Shake to realign.  Access your phone in Owner mode and rearrange the app icons as desired.

Why doesn't the alarm go off at the preset time?

 Scenario 1:

The alarm doesn"t go off.

Cause:

 Your phone is muted or the alarm volume is set to 0.  The alarm is not set to go off when your phone is muted.  Do not disturb mode is enabled.

Solution:

 Increase the alarm volume: Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. Touch and hold the Sound icon or press the Volume up button to access the volume settings. Touch Volume and drag the slider to increase the volume.  Ensure that alarm sounds are enabled when your phone is muted: Go to Clock > Alarm > Settings > Ring in silent mode.  Disable Do not disturb mode:

EMUI 4.X and EMUI 5.X: Go to Settings > Do not disturb and disable Do not disturb, or touch Do not disturb mode and select Alarms only.

EMUI 8.0: Go to Settings > Sound > Do not disturb. Disable Do not disturb or touch Do not disturb mode and select Alarms only.

 Scenario 2:

Alarms set by sub-users don"t go off after your phone is restarted.

Cause:

When you restart your phone, all user accounts except for the owner"s are suspended. Any alarms set by sub-users will not go off.

Solution:

Log in to the sub-user account that was used to set the alarm: Go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and select the desired sub-user.

 Scenario 3:

Visitor account alarms don"t go off when you switch to another user account. Cause:

When you switch from the visitor account to another user account, the visitor account is suspended. Any alarms set using the visitor account will not go off.

Solution:

Log back in to the visitor account: Go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and switch to Guest mode.

 Scenario 4:

Some sub-user alarms don"t go off when you switch between multiple user accounts.

Cause:

To improve performance, the system only runs two accounts in the background: the owner"s account and the previous sub-user"s account. All other user accounts are suspended. Alarms set by these accounts will not go off.

Solution:

Log back in to the sub-user account that was used to set the alarm: Go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users and select the desired sub-user.

If the issue persists, perform the following steps:

EMUI 4.X and EMUI 5.X: Go to Settings > Apps > Clock > Storage > CLEAR DATA.

EMUI 8.0: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Clock > Storage > CLEAR DATA.

Unable to configure the sleep time, auto sync, and battery percentage options

Cause:

Power saving mode was enabled (this occurs when the battery level falls below 20%). When Power saving mode is enabled, your phone automatically disables the options to configure the sleep time, auto sync, and battery percentage options.

Solution:

Go to Settings > Battery and disable Power saving mode.

Power saving mode is also disabled automatically when your phone is charging.

Online system update failure

Check the following items before troubleshooting the specific issue:

 Ensure that your phone has not been rooted. A rooted phone may fail an OTA update or may not be able to receive OTA update notifications.  Ensure that your phone has sufficient power. You can"t update your phone if the battery level is below 20%.  Check whether a memory card is installed on your phone. If yes, the online update may fail when your phone and the memory card are incompatible. Supported memory card brands may vary according to your device.  Ensure that your phone"s internal storage space and space on the memory card is sufficient. If insufficient, online updates may fail. Supported memory card brands may vary according to your device.  Ensure that the online update process is not manually interrupted. For example, the update process may stop if you press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force restart your phone. Problem 1: Unable to download the update package.

Problem 2: Installing the update package does not update the phone.

Problem 3: HOTA update fails.

Problem 1: Unable to download the update package.

 The download process freezes, and the update dialog box is unresponsive.  An error message is displayed during the download process, indicating that the update package has failed verification.  An error message displays when the download progress bar reaches 100%, indicating that the update package has failed to verify or parse, or that the server is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively, an error message may display in the middle of the download progress, indicating that the download has failed. When the user confirms the error message, the system prompts the user to download the update package again.

Cause:

The network is unstable or restricted.

Solution:

Solution 1:

1. Open Settings, search for Apps, select System update, touch Storage, then touch CLEAR DATA. 2. Restart your phone, move to a location with a better network connection (personal Wi-Fi network is recommended), and try again.

Solution 2: Back up your data, restore your phone to its factory settings, and try again.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

Problem 2: Installing the update package does not update the phone.

After installing the update package, the phone system does not update.

Cause:

The update package is incomplete.

Solution: 1. Open Settings, search for Apps, select System update, touch , then select Download latest full package to check for the latest system version. 2. If the latest update package is available, use this package to update your phone.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

Problem 3: HOTA update fails.

1. When using HiSuite to restore and update the phone, the process fails at about 90%. 2. The HOTA (Huawei over the air technology) update fails, and the screen below is displayed when the phone is powered on.

Cause:

The update package obtained is incorrect.

Solution:

Please enter eRecovery mode to download the complete update package.

 If the HD icon can be displayed normally before the phone system is restored, but cannot be displayed afterwards, try the following: Remove the SIM card and insert another SIM card provided by a different carrier into your phone. When the new SIM card successfully registers with the network, remove it and insert the original SIM card into your phone to resolve the issue.  Updating your phone in eRecovery mode will not delete your device data. During the update, ensure that your phone is connected to an available Wi-Fi network and that the battery level is higher than 30%.

To do so:

 Use a USB cable to connect your phone to a computer or charger. When the phone is powered off, press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons until the phone vibrates and enters eRecovery mode.  Touch Download latest version and recovery.  To ensure a successful update, switch the connection mode to charging.  Select an available Wi-Fi network.  Download the latest HOTA full package in eRecovery mode.  After the download is complete, the system will automatically complete the update process.

Do not operate your phone during the update. When the update is completed, the phone will restart automatically.

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
