1.1 What is my phone's temperature rise? 1. Your phone meets the international standards and its temperature rise is lower that most products of its class in the industry. 2. If the customer requires specific statistics, explain the standards in detail (the hotline personnel shall not directly describe the statistics to the customer): Based on the EN 60950-1, the maximum temperature for metal is 60 degrees, glass 70 degrees, and plastics 85 degrees for short-term contact; the maximum temperature for metal is 55 degrees, glass 65 degrees, and plastics 75 degrees for long-term contact.

1.2 Does my phone support fast charging? Your phone comes with a standard 9 V 2 A charger. When your phone's battery is low, charge it for 10 minutes and you'll get enough power to make around 2 hours of calls. The exact time depends on the network conditions.

1.3 How long will my phone's battery last? Your phone is equipped with Huawei's proprietary power-saving technologies. Tests show that the battery will last for a whole day for heavy users.

1.4 Does my phone support reverse charging? Yes. Your phone supports reverse charging. 1. Your phone can be used to reverse charge other phones. To use this function, you need a connecting cable (micro USB to micro USB) to connect the two phones. 2. Your phone can also be used to reverse charge Huawei noise reduction headsets.

1.5 Does my phone's battery contain graphene? No. Your phone uses a lithium battery. No graphene is used.

1.6 Does my phone support wireless charging? No.

1.7 Why does my phone charge more slowly after reaching 80% charge? The Huawei Mate 8 uses a 4000 mAh high energy density battery and a high voltage quick charger (9 V/2 A). Your phone only takes 2 hours and 20 minutes to be fully charged. It takes about an hour to reach 80% charge; and then constant voltage charging starts and takes control of the charging current. This is a normal phenomenon due to the nature of the battery.

1.8 How long does the battery last on the Huawei Mate 8? This can only be used to answer one-to-one questions by users on the hotline and is not to be published on the Internet or elsewhere. For regular users, the Huawei Mate 8's battery lasts for 2.36 days; for heavy users, 1.65 days (data acquired from lab tests). The actual usage time depends on specific user habits and the amount of time the screen stays on.

Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs 1 Battery and charging

When the phone is set to default brightness and fully charged: Battery lasts for 14 hours for home screen operations (one slide on the screen every 5 seconds) 12 hours for instant messaging, 20 hours for web browsing (minimum brightness, after the web page is loaded, one slide on the screen for 2 seconds every 8 seconds), 21 hours for reading eBooks, 8 hours for playing games, 28 hours for voice calls (outdoor, very good signal reception), 17 hours for playing videos (HD videos already downloaded to the phone), 12 hours for text messaging, 5 hours for using camera, 11 hours for online shopping applications, 11 hours for email applications.

1.9 Why does my hand feel numb from touching the phone when it is charging? 1. The numb sensation is because the user's body exchanged a small amount of electric charge with the environment, which stimulated the user's nerves. It's like the static electricity discharge when you take off your sweater on a winter night. Our charger has passed global safety certification. Each of our chargers has been tested for safety issues comprehensively before it is delivered to the user. 2. Please make sure you are using the charger that came with your phone or a Huawei charger purchased from Huawei authorized stores. All of our chargers have passed rigorous tests and have received Chinese and international safety certifications. They meet both CCC and IEC 60950 safety standards. There is no risk of electric shock during normal usage. Chargers purchased through unofficial channels may not have undergone strict design reviews or tests and verifications, and may not have any safety certificates. There is no guarantee that they are safe to use. 3. If your charger doesn't function normally and has a damaged chassis, there is a risk of electrical leakage. Please do not use it and replace it with an official Huawei charger. 4. Please make sure that you use the charger with a normal household electrical supply

1.10 Why does my Huawei Mate 8 have a short battery life? If you feel your phone's battery life is too short, it is recommended that you follow the instructions below: 1. Please update your phone to the latest version.

2. If there is no 4G signal in your area or the signal is weak, it is recommended that you turn off 4G to avoid the high power consumption caused by constantly switching between networks. 3. Close all unneeded applications running in the background. To do this, touch the Recent key on the virtual navigation bar, and slide up to close all applications. 4. Do not use live wallpaper. Live wallpaper will significantly reduce your battery life. It is recommended that you use static wallpaper. Please see below if users ask for more power saving methods (it is recommended that you send the information to users via text message): 1. It is recommended that you update your phone to the latest version. Connect your phone to Wi-Fi, touch Settings > Updater > Check for updates, touch refresh, and then download and install the firmware update. 2. Adjust screen brightness (you can enable Automatic Brightness to allow your phone to adjust the screen brightness to suit its environment, or manually drag the brightness slider down). 3. It is recommended that you close all the protected background applications that you do not use frequently. 4. It is recommended that you use Smart mode rather than Performance mode. (Steps: Settings > Advanced settings > Battery manager > Smart). 5. Uninstall unneeded power-intensive applications. (Touch Settings > Advanced settings > Location access to check if there are applications consuming a large amount of power, and choose the ones you wish to uninstall.) 6. Turn off functions you are not currently using: Wi-Fi hotspot/Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth/Mobile data/NFC. Switch off the Auto-Sync button/Smartcare. 7. Disable Mobile data always on (Settings > More > Mobile network > Mobile data always on). 8. Select Never (increases data usage) under Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep (Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu > Advanced settings).

1.11 Why does it take a long time to charge my phone when the screen is on? 1. When charging, the electric current provides power to the system and charges the battery at the same time. Your phone's system consumes more power when the screen is on than when it is off, meaning that limited current goes to the battery. As a result, it will take longer to charge the battery. 2. Also, your phone generates heat when the screen is on. To stop your phone and the charging current from generating excessive heat and to provide a better user experience and increased safety, your phone will limit the charging current to make it more comfortable to use during charging, which may extend the time required for charging.

1.12 Why does my phone make a sound when the phone is charged to about 87% The Huawei standard charger is a 9 V/2 A high voltage quick charger. If you use any charger other than a standard Huawei Mate 8 charger, the output voltage may be insufficient. Your phone may mistake this for repeatedly connecting and disconnecting to the charger. This phenomenon will not harm your phone, but it is recommended that you charge your phone using a Huawei standard charger and charging cable.

1.13 Why does the data cable shake when plugged into the phone There is a gap between the cable and the USB port that is intentionally designed to make sure the cable can be plugged in and unplugged. It is a normal phenomenon if the cable shakes slightly when plugged into your phone. This will not affect normal charging and the service life of the cable. Please rest assured.

2.1.2 Why doesn't my phone recognize the SIM card I inserted?

 Please make sure you are using a standard nano-SIM card. Do not use a non-standard SIM card or cut the SIM card yourself. Manually cut SIM cards may not be recognized or may even damage your phone. It is recommended that you replace it with a standard nano-SIM card from your network carrier.  Please make sure you place the card correctly into the slot. The angled corner of the SIM card must be placed to fit correctly in the card slot (as shown below).

 If your SIM card has been in use for a long time, you can try wiping the card's metal contacts with alcohol, or you can replace it with a standard nano-SIM card from your network carrier. A SIM card's metal surface can become oxidized after being used for a long time, which can make the SIM unrecognizable.  Please do not insert or remove your SIM card while your phone is on. Try restarting your phone after you've inserted a SIM card.  If the problem persists, take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center along with the purchase invoice to be checked and repaired. 2.1.3 What card should I place in each SIM card slot? Put a nano-SIM card in card slot 1 (internal card slot). Put a nano-SIM card or microSD card in card slot 2 (external card slot). 2.1.4 What colors are included in the color scheme? There are currently four colors: moonlight silver, space gray, champagne gold, and mocha gold. 2.1.5 Why does the camera flash catch on my hand? The camera flash is slightly recessed to prevent it from catching and causing injury. Please note that this does not affect performance. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.6 Why does the fingerprint reader catch on my hand? The fingerprint reader is slightly recessed and has rounded corners to prevent it from catching and causing injury. Please note that this does not affect performance.

Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty except when the product is new, out of the original packaging. 2.1.7 Why is there a step difference and rough feel between the plastic part of the antenna gap and the rear cover? The amount of metal and plastic removed by the polishing process during manufacturing can be different, which has caused the step difference and rough feel. Please rest assured, this will not affect your phone's performance. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that if there are no other functional problems, this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.8 Why are there three faint marks either side of the receiver on the gold edition? In order to combine functionality and looks, the front indicator light, camera flash, and ambient light sensor are covered with a translucent coating. Please note that this does not affect performance.

Note: If the user requests a replacement phone, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty.

2.1.9 Why do the power key and volume key protrude by different lengths from the phone? The power and volume keys are moving parts and are subject to manufacturing limitations. This means they are not entirely uniform. This issue is not considered a fault unless performance is affected. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty if it does not affect performance. 2.1.10 paint has rubbed off my gray/coffee phone, leaving white marks visible. Why? All phones are checked thoroughly for cosmetic defects before they are shipped. Paint near micro-USB connectors, headset sockets, SIM card trays and pin holes is susceptible to scraping. Paint on the phone's rear housing can be rubbed off when the phone is placed on a table or in pockets. The above issues are common to all dark-colored metal phone housings and are not considered faults unless they affect the functioning of the phone. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.11 rear cover on the phone bends when pressed. Why? The thickness of phone batteries varies with charge. By design, there is a safety gap between the battery and rear cover. If the rear cover is pressed, there will be some movement, but this is entirely normal. Please rest assured that all Huawei phones must pass strict quality checks before they are shipped. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.12 tempered glass screen protective film has an uneven surface. Why? Screens are rigorously checked for defects before shipping. The phone features a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen which is highly scratch-resistant and can withstand ordinary scrapes and knocks. Additional screen protective film is not required. If the issue persists even when the official Huawei super-thin (0.2 mm thick) tempered glass screen protective film is used, users should take their phone to a Huawei service center where the official Huawei protective film can be applied by a technician. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by the warranty if it does not affect performance. 2.1.13 After some use, the phone's front and rear covers have dents. Why? 1. Huawei phones comply with industry quality standards and are checked rigorously before they are shipped.

2. The rear cover is made of aluminum alloy, which can be dented by hard impacts. It is recommended that you use a protective phone case. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.14 What do I do if the phone's rear camera is cracked or scratched? Ask the user if the rear camera was damaged at the time of purchase or if it became damaged after use. If the latter is the case, any breakages, cracks or scratches the user finds on the rear camera lens after leaving the place of purchase are considered to be caused by the user and will not be covered by warranty. The user should take the phone to an authorized Huawei service center for repair. It is recommended that a protective cover is used for the phone. The user must keep the phone away from sharp objects (such as keys and sand etc), and avoid pressing the phone hard. The phone's rear camera lens is made of Corning tempered glass. After surface treatment, it has a Moh hardness of ≥ 7, and a pencil hardness of 1 kgf > 9 H. All our lenses have gone undergone strict inspections to ensure durability and resist scratches from daily usage. However, sharp and hard can objects could still break or crack the lens. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.15 Why is there a big gap between the battery cover and the structure of the phone, and between the screen and the front cover? Due to thermal expansion and contraction and production stability, it is impossible to achieve a zero gap or absolute evenness. The industry standard gap is smaller than or equal to 0.3 mm and Huawei's standard is smaller than or equal to 0.2 mm. To save going to a service center, please first try inserting two pieces of A4 paper into the gap. If you cannot insert two pieces of A4 paper, then the gap is smaller than 0.2 mm, because the thickness of a standard sheet of A4 paper is 0.1 mm. Therefore, the gap complies with the Huawei standard (0.2 mm) and you can rest assured. If two sheets of A4 paper can be inserted into the gap, take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center and check whether there is a quality problem. 2.1.16 Why is there a step difference between the antenna slot on the side of the battery cover? Before being colored, the surface of the battery cover is polished and electrolyzed. As a result of the electrolyzation, the cover metal part will be lower than the plastic part, hence the step difference. Huawei has strict quality control regarding such step differences to ensure they comply with Huawei's standards of less than 0.05 mm. Please rest assured. This is a normal phenomenon, which is not covered by warranty.

Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.17 Why does the SIM card holder hole/edge of the hole have paint loss/scratches? Your phone's battery cover is made of 6-series aluminum alloy. Although it is a hard material, its edges can still become scratched. It is recommended that you follow the directions when using the pin: it is essential to insert the pin vertically into the SIM card holder hole on the side of the phone. Inserting the pin at an angle may result in scratches around the edges of the hole. Any scratches the user may find around the edges of the SIM card holder hole after leaving the place of purchase are considered to be caused by the user and will not be covered by warranty. The issue can be resolved by replacing the rear cover. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty. 2.1.18 Why is there a white line on the front edge of my white phone? Your phone contains a 2.5 D glass screen. The white line is the edge of the screen. This is normal and there is no problem with the phone. Please rest assured.

2.1.19 Which part of the phone do I use for NFC? The NFC antenna is located on top of the rear camera. To use it, put the camera area of your phone near a card reader or card, in the same way that you use your bus card.

2.1.20 How many speakers does my phone have, and where are they? Your phone has only one speaker, which is on the right at the bottom of your phone. The holes for the microphone on the left side are just a symmetrical design for aesthetic purposes.

2.1.21 Is my phone battery built in? Yes. The battery is non-removable. 95% of the phone is covered by metal. 2.1.22 Does my phone support active noise reduction headsets? Yes. 2.1.23 Why is there a slight color difference between the battery cover and the decorative bands on the top and bottom? There are two plastic decorative bands on the top and bottom of the battery cover. The surface treatment methods for the decorations and battery cover are different (paint spraying for the decorations and anodizing for the battery cover), so it is normal for the decoration area and metal area to have a slight color difference (on black, white, gold or any other color too). The phone's performance will not be affected. Please rest assured. Note: If the user asks for a replacement, please inform them that this issue is not covered by warranty.

2.1.24 Why does the Huawei Mate 8 still use Cat 6 when Cat 9 has already been released? Network operators work to their own schedules in network construction. 4G (Cat 4) networks were launched at the end of 2013, and 4G+ (Cat 6) was launched only in the second half of 2015. So far, there is no clear plan for Cat 9, which means that phones claiming to support Cat 9 still only have Cat 6 network support. One thing to note here is that whatever the Cat numbers and figures, they are only theoretical data. The actual download speed is far more important for users. All Kirin chips from Kirin 920 support Cat 6, and are equipped with several optimizations for various user scenarios to ensure improved stability and speed in the same network environment. 2.1.25 Does my phone support 4G+? When does it show the 4G+ icon? The Huawei Mate 8 supports 4G+ by default. You may switch the function on or off on the LTE Cat 6 CA button under mobile network settings. Under normal network configurations, usually the 4G+ function is only activated when the data transmission rate reaches a certain level. It is recommended that users consult their local network carriers about the local network configurations. The 4G+ icon will display only when the 4G+ function is activated. 2.1.26 What do I do if my Huawei Mate 8 crashes, restarts, displays a blue/black screen or becomes really slow? 1. Check under what circumstances the issue occurred. Did it occur when you opened multiple applications or were playing a large game? If so, the issue may be caused by a third-party application or game. Or it might be because the phone's system is incompatible with a third-party application. It is recommended that you uninstall third-party applications that are likely to cause crashes and restarts. 2. Check whether there is a microSD card inserted into the phone. If there is, remove the card and try again. If the problem is solved, the microSD card is damaged or incompatible with the phone. 3. If your phone restarted after being taken out of a bag or pocket, check whether you accidentally pressed and held the power button for 10 seconds, thereby restarting the phone.

4. The phone will restart if you press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. 5. If the phone crashes and restarts constantly and randomly, it is recommended that you update your phone to the latest version: press and hold the volume up button and power button to enter eRecovery mode. 6. If the issue persists after you've done all of the above, please take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center.

2.2 Screen and display 2.2.1 Why can't I find screen off gesture or double touch to wake in motion control? Your phone does not support double touch to wake or drawing a letter to open applications. This is due to security considerations. If your phone has a lock screen password (or fingerprint lock), when you draw a letter to open an application when the screen is on, you still need to enter your password or scan your fingerprint to access the application. Go to Settings > Smart assistance > Motion control > Draw, and turn on Draw. When the screen is on, you can access an application by drawing its letter on the empty area of the home screen. 2.2.2 Can I use my phone when my hands are wet? Please use your phone when your hands are dry to ensure that it functions properly. Using your phone with wet hands may cause water to seep into your phone and eventually leading to a fault. Also, your phone's screen may not respond to wet fingers. 2.2.3 Why is it that I can only zoom in but not drag using the magnification gestures function? You need to swipe on the screen with two fingers together to drag. 2.2.4 Why does my phone's screen not respond when I'm wearing gloves? Please check if you have enabled gloves mode. Enter Settings > Smart assistance, and turn on Gloves mode. If you have enabled Gloves mode, but the screen still doesn't respond to your touches, that might because your gloves are too thick. Please try again with thinner gloves. 2.2.5 What do I do if my phone's screen is slow to respond or does not respond accurately? Please make sure the on your phone is updated to the latest version. If you are using a protective cover or other accessories, the screen may not function properly.

Using the screen with gloves on, dirty hands, pointy objects, or fingertips may cause the screen to malfunction. Using your phone in humid conditions or exposing it to water may cause the screen to fail. Restart your phone to clear temporary software errors. 2.2.6 Why does my phone's screen not look as colorful as the screens of Samsung phones or the Huawei Mate S? Your phone uses an IPS screen, the same kind used by the iPhone 6. It is clearer, and displays colors more faithfully. The Samsung phones and Huawei Mate S use an AMOLED screen. 2.2.7 Why is there light leakage when the screen is off? It is a normal for there to be white light in the display area when the screen is black. Your phone uses an industry leading JDI/LG screen. Before delivery, your phone has gone through rigorous quality tests. This is a normal phenomenon that will not affect your daily use of the phone. Please rest assured. 2.2.8 Why does my phone have a black edge at the top and bottom edge of the screen? If there is a 2 to 3 mm black edge at the top and bottom edge of the startup screen, it is caused by multiple UI layers. This is a normal phenomenon. Please rest assured. 2.2.9 Why does my phone's screen look bright/red/unclear/blurred? Phones use different screens to improve the display quality with better contrast ratio and a wider color gamut. 1. Your phone uses a negative LCD screen, providing a darker dark state, compared with ordinary LCD screens; a brighter maximum brightness, brighter bright state, and a contrast ratio of 1500:1. Your phone's screen will not look blurred with a negative LCD screen. 2. Your phone uses a high color gamut screen with 95% color saturation, providing brighter colors. This new technology makes your phone's screen very different from ordinary phone screens. These are not technical faults. Please rest assured. 2.2.10 Why does my phone's screen turn off during a call? This is normal. When your ear or another object blocks the proximity sensor near the receiver, the screen automatically turns off to prevent misoperations. The screen will turn back on after you remove the phone from your ears. Please do not block the area around the receiver with a phone cover or other objects. When attaching a screen protective film, please make sure the proximity sensor is not covered. Protective films that are not very transparent may cause the proximity sensor to malfunction.

2.2.11 Why does my phone's screen look red the moment it turns off? Your phone uses a high color gamut backlight. When the screen turns off, the red spectrum of the backlight turns off slightly later than the blue and green spectra do. That's why your phone's screen looks red the moment it turns off. This is a normal phenomenon. Please rest assured. 2.2.12 Why does my phone have a red frame on the screen? Please check if you have enabled strict mode under Developer options. The menu path is as follows: Settings > Developer options > Strict mode enabled. If strict mode is enabled, an application performing long-running operations on the main thread will cause a red frame to flicker on the screen. 2.2.13 Does the 2.5 D glass screen break easily? If the screen breaks, can I replace just the cover glass? 1. Your phone uses Corning Gorilla Glass, which is very strong. 2. As your phone has an all-in-one modular design, if the screen breaks, you will have to replace the entire front cover component, which includes the screen and front cover. 2.2.14 Why do the screen and drop-down menu become less responsive when the phone is placed on a table/bed but work fine when I hold the phone in my hand? Your phone does not have a good ground connection when placed on a bed or table, resulting in slightly lower sensitivity of the screen. If you put your phone on a well insulated surface, it will only respond to two fingers. Your phone will function properly when you hold it in your hands. It is also recommended that you always update the operating system to the latest version. 2.2.15 Why does my phone's screen become more vibrant and brighter under sunlight? Your phone automatically turns on the sunlight readable function when used under bright sunlight or other lights. As shown below, you will see the screen suddenly becomes brighter, and the colors displayed on the screen vary slightly: black will become grayer; other colors become brighter. This is not a quality problem, but a function enabled by default on your phone. When the phone senses that the brightness of the environment has reached a certain level, the sunlight readable function will be activated. This function cannot be turned off. 2.2.16 Does my phone come with a protective film? Do I need a protective film? Your phone comes with a protective film, but it is only to protect the phone during delivery. It is recommended that you remove the film before use. Since your phone's screen is covered with 2.5 D glass, none of the films on the market can properly cover the arc on the edge. If you apply a protective film to your phone yourself, you will only be able to cover the middle area, not the edges. Your phone uses Corning Gorilla Glass, which has high scratch resistance.

Your phone's screen will not scratch easily as long as you don't place in together with keys, gravel, and other hard objects. 2.2.17 Why does the screen/bottom of the screen of the Huawei Mate 8 look yellow/dark Answer to one-to-one question by users on the hotline: Have you ever enabled the Eyesight protection function? If you have, the problem will be solved by restoring the phone to factory settings. (When Eyesight protection is enabled, the phone's screen will turn yellow. To avoid users accidentally enabling the Eyesight protection function and mistaking the yellow tone for a defective screen, we have removed the Eyesight protection function since version B116.) Recommended answer to questions regarding the yellow/dark tone at the bottom of the screen: The Huawei Mate 8 uses an LCD screen delivered by top-tier industry suppliers. The screen is lit using backlight modules. Before delivering the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei conducts strict inspections on the uniformity of the luminance of every screen to ensure that each screen meets standards. Please rest assured. Huawei phones also have a function to adjust the color temperature to suit individual user preferences. You may set the color temperature by entering Settings > Display > Color temperature, uncheck the Default option, and drag the slider towards Cold until you're happy with what you're seeing. Recommended replies on the Internet by unofficial accounts: 1. I tried my Huawei Mate 8, and the bottom of the screen wasn't really yellow. But when I took a picture of my Mate 8 using another phone, the screen's bottom area did look a little dark in the picture. I think it was probably the lighting. You can't always trust pictures online. 2. I checked my Huawei Mate 8 after reading posts online. Maybe it was little dark at the bottom of the screen, but I never noticed it at all before. I think the color on the Huawei Mate 8 looks much more comfortable than all my previous phones. 3. I never noticed any yellow at the bottom of the screen. Why do you have to make your phone display an all white screen? That's not what a phone's supposed to do anyway. 4. My phone had the same issue, but it was only very slight. After I dragged the color temperature slider (under Settings > Display > Color temperature) to the right end (towards Cold), the problem was solved! It really worked. You guys might want to give it a try. 5. Almost all LCD screens have this issue – maybe it's the screen suppliers, but I can use the phone fine. I checked online. Basically everyone's phone has the same problem, whatever the brand. 2.2.18 Why is my phone screen red (especially with a white background) and why are the colors too bright? Your phone uses a high color gamut (wide color gamut) screen, which may seem slightly discolored when viewed from a side angle. This is a normal phenomenon and not a phone quality issue. Your phone screen is supplied by the world's best screen manufacturers LG and JDI, and its quality is guaranteed by Huawei's rigorous tests, so that you can rest assured. A phone screen can display warm or cold colors. You can adjust the screen color temperature on your phone according to your preferences by going to Settings > Display > Color temperature.

In addition, your phone screen has 95% color saturation, producing richer color information and more vivid images.

2.2.19 Why can't I find the Eyesight protection switch? Why does my phone's screen look yellow? Reason: When Eyesight protection is enabled, the phone's screen will turn yellow. To avoid users accidentally enabling the Eyesight protection function and mistaking the yellow tone for a defective screen, we have removed the Eyesight protection function since version B116. Users who enabled the Eyesight protection function before updating their phones to B116 will be unable to disable the function normally because the menu path has been already removed in B116. Solutions: 1. Guide users to update to a newer version than B116 to solve the problem. 2. Guide users to back up their data and restore the phone to factory settings.

There are several built-in themes in the Huawei Mate 8 that may make you feel the screen is tilted, especially when there is a rectangular box displayed on the screen, such as the Baidu search box or the time box. This is because the built-in themes have curves at the top and bottom of the screen, which creates an optical illusion. The actual screen is not tilted. The curves on the built-in wallpapers are designed to match the CD pattern on the shell of the phone. The orderly arranged curves on the wallpaper help accentuate the screen's ability to display details. It is recommended that you download a theme without lines and try again. 3.1.25 How do I update my Huawei Mate 8? Note: You can touch the back key or home key to exit Dual windows mode. 1. What applications support landscape display when in Dual windows mode? Normally, applications that support Dual windows mode will support landscape display when in Dual windows mode. But landscape display will only be completely supported if both open applications support landscape mode. If only one application supports landscape display, then the applications will be displayed in portrait orientation when in Dual windows mode. 2. Can I open the same application twice at the same time when in Dual windows mode? No. You cannot open the same application twice when in Dual windows mode. 3. Why are some applications displayed abnormally when in Dual windows mode? Presently, the majority of applications are developed for full-screen display. In Dual windows mode, the full-screen display is limited to half of the screen. This can result in the characters shown on the screens of some applications to not be displayed or to overlap. 3.3.11 What can I do if the UC Browser closes unexpectedly or runs slowly? According to our analysis, this is probably a problem with this application itself. We recommend you uninstall the app, download it again from the Google Play Store, and install it again. If you continue to have problems, please wait for a new version of the application and then update it. 3.3.12 What is Loud voice mode? In hand-held and handsfree mode, when the volume is raised to the highest level and you press the volume button one more time you will enter Loud voice mode. The volume will increase (the sound quality will be slightly decreased).

3.3.13 When making a screen recording, why can't I also take a video, make an audio recording, send WeChat voice messages, or do similar things? When making a screen recording, audio is also captured. When capturing audio your phone's audio channel is in use. In the current Android framework, there is only one audio channel. When making a screen recording, you cannot also take a video, make an audio recording, send WeChat voice messages, or do similar things because the audio channel is in use. To use these functions, you will need to stop the screen recording. 3.3.14 When I set up a ringtone using music I downloaded, why is there no vibration to go with the music when I receive calls? Vibration with incoming calls is only supported when using one of the 22 default ringtones. 3.3.15 When playing music through the speakers at the highest volume setting, what can I do if there is static when using handsfree mode to call? Please update your system software to the latest version. In Loud voice mode, producing a relatively high sound volume is prioritized. Due to this, there will be a certain amount of static. We recommend lowering the volume and exiting Loud voice mode to have better sound quality. 3.3.16 When roaming in Hong Kong, can I freely switch to a local network so I don't need to use two SIM cards at once? To do this, you must first enable international roaming. When roaming internationally, your phone will automatically search for and change to a local network. You don't need to do this yourself. 3.3.17 Why did the ringtone for incoming calls I selected disappear? Some third-party cleaning or optimization applications will change the users' database and delete the records of ringtone files in the database. You may find the ringtone file by following the instructions below: Instructions: Touch Settings > Apps > Show system, then touch Media Storage > Storage under Apps, select Clear data, and restart your phone. Then you will find the ringtone under Settings > Sound.

3.4 Screen recording 3.4.1 When making a screen recording, why does Mini mode make a lot of short videos? The purpose of Mini mode is to help you more conveniently share screen recording videos through instant messaging applications like WeChat. Most instant messaging applications limit the size of shared videos, like 20 MB for WeChat. When a video exceeds the limit, the instant messaging application will compress the video, significantly affecting the quality. So, in Mini mode, when a video reaches a certain size (like 19 to 20 MB), a new video will be created. 3.4.2 Why is the resolution poor when using Mini mode for screen recording? The Mini mode is designed to record videos that can be sent using instant messaging apps. The size of each video file is restricted to prevent instant messaging apps from compressing the video. If the resolution is set to high, a 19 to 20 MB file will only record a very short clip. If the resolution is set to high and there are no file size restrictions, the resolution will decrease significantly when the video is sent using an instant messaging app, as the app will compress the video to a lower resolution. We therefore opted for FWVGA resolution for clips recorded in Mini mode in order to keep the file size low and ensure an acceptable image quality. You can also record a screen recording using HD mode and then share your clip by uploading it onto a video-sharing website.

3.4.3 Why can't I record a video, make a voice recording, or send voice messages when I am using the screen recording feature? Your voice is recorded automatically when you make a screen recording. Starting a screen recording will turn on your phone's microphone. Android does not currently support the use of the microphone by more than one app at once. This means that you cannot record video, make a voice recording, send voice messages, or use other apps that require the use of the microphone when you are using the screen recording feature. Turn off screen recording if you wish to access these features. 3.4.4 Why does the screen recording end automatically? The screen recording will end automatically in the following circumstances:

 After 5 minutes of recording  When you receive calls  When there is insufficient storage space  When you press the power button 3.4.5 I always need to wait for the timer to countdown before the screen recording starts. Is there a quicker way to start a screen recording? Touch the timer to skip the countdown and start recording immediately. 3.4.6 screen recording timer button is obstructing the controls in my game. What can I do? You can drag the timer button to another location on the screen. 3.4.7 My screen recording failed to be shared over WeChat? Check that you followed the correct steps to share your video. We recommend that you touch the Share button, which you can find in the Gallery or by swiping down on the notification bar. Select WeChat to share your screen recording with your friends. If you use the "+" icon in WeChat to select your screen recording, WeChat will compress your video. If compression fails, your recording will not be sent. Even if your recording is sent, the resolution will decrease significantly due to compression. We therefore recommend that you do not use this method to send your videos in WeChat. 3.4.8 Motion control often fails to work properly when starting/stopping a screen recording. Why? Check that motion control is enabled for smart screenshot and screen recording. For smart screenshot, go to Settings > Smart assistance > Motion control > Smart screenshot. Your phone's gravity sensor must register your knuckle gesture in order for the motion control feature to work properly. If you only touch very lightly on the screen, the gravity sensor will not register your gesture. Try touching slightly harder on the screen (similar to how you

would knock on a door). Practice touching twice on the screen with two knuckles to start/stop screen recordings. 3.4.9 Why can't I play screen recordings in full-screen mode on my phone (or my friend's phone)? Make sure that you are using your phone's default video player. Some online video players are unable to detect the video orientation automatically, therefore you will not be able to play the video in full-screen mode.

3.5 Phone Manager 3.5.1 Why doesn't the pre-installed Phone Manager block some unwanted calls? The Phone Manager can only block calls from numbers in the blacklist, unknown contacts, or contacts with hidden numbers. Also, this needs to be set up in advance the Phone Manager. The present version of Phone Manager cannot filter calls based on parts of phone numbers and it does not keep records of blocked calls. If you really need these features, we recommend downloading a similar third-party application. 3.5.2 Why doesn't Phone Manager intercept multimedia messages? Phone Manager does not support intercepting multimedia messages at present. 3.5.3 When sharing images or links, what can I do if my phone shows a notification saying that the third-party application (like WeChat) is not installed? When sharing things, if your phone displays something like the following image, please follow the method listed below to troubleshoot the problem.

Go to Settings > Apps and choose the app you want to use to share (like WeChat). Check whether Force stop can be selected (it is not grayed out). 3.5.4 What can I do if my phone stays in Do not disturb mode even when I turn it off? Please check whether the Android Wear app is installed on your phone. If so, please check whether Do not disturb mode has been set on your smart wrist band. 3.5.5 How do I check the power consumption details on the Huawei Mate 8? If you feel your phone's battery is dropping too quickly, it might be because some applications are secretly consuming your phone's power. The Phone Manager will help you locate them and turn them off with one touch. Enter Phone Manager > Battery manager > Power usage firewall (power-intensive applications), and touch X under the unneeded applications to turn them off. Touch Consumption level to see the power consumption rankings for software and hardware. Select the applications you would like to close and touch X.

When there is a power-intensive application running in the background, an alert will pop up in the notification panel. If you want to stop the system from sending these alerts, touch Settings and turn off Power-intensive prompt.

In addition to this method, you can also optimize your battery settings by running a battery power consumption test in Phone Manager.

3.6 Alarms 3.6.1 Why do alarms keep going off repeatedly? Go to Snooze duration settings > Alarm rings before auto-silence (times). This lets you set the number of times the alarm will sound if it is not turned off and you don't touch Touch here to snooze for 10 minutes or Slide to turn off alarm (the default alarm ring length is to ring for 5 minutes each time). If you touch Touch here to snooze for 10 minutes when the alarm rings, the alarm will be delayed. For example, if your alarm is set for 12:00 and the delay time is 10 minutes, then the alarm will ring again at 12:10. If you touch Touch here to snooze for 10 minutes again, the alarm will ring again at 12:20. Regardless of how many times you set the alarm to ring before auto-silence, you can also touch Alarm (snoozed) in the notification panel to stop the alarm from ringing again. 3.6.2 When my phone automatically powers on after the alarm rings, why is my phone sometimes in airplane mode? The power-off alarm function is designed in the following way: Because your phone is powered off before the alarm goes off, only the alarm function is turned on when the phone powers on, rather than all the communication functions (thus, your phone is in airplane mode). If you turn off the alarm, airplane mode will also turn off. If you touch Touch here to snooze for 10 minutes, your phone will remain in airplane mode.

3.7 Fingerprint identification 3.7.1 Do I have to place my finger fully on the fingerprint sensor to unlock the screen? The fingerprint sensor embedded in the Huawei Mate 8 supports 360° all-angle fingerprint recognition. You don't have to place your finger fully on the sensor to unlock the screen. 3.7.2 Why can't I use my fingerprint to unlock the screen after clearing the screen unlock password/setting an unlock pattern? This is a new feature in Android 6.0. When you clear your password or set an unlock pattern, the phone will show a warning that all your fingerprints will be deleted. 3.7.3 Is there a time limit for entering a fingerprint enrollment? After 10 minutes of inactivity with screen on on the Fingerprint management screen, if you put your finger on the sensor, the phone will prompt you that fingerprint enrollment has failed and exit the fingerprint management screen automatically. This is a default timeout setting for fingerprint enrollment. This mechanism helps prevent others from enrolling a fingerprint on your phone when you spend too much time on the fingerprint management screen. This function makes it more secure for you to use fingerprints.

3.7.4 How do I know I have successfully enrolled a fingerprint? Fingerprint enrollment will fail if you abort the process before the final step is completed. Make sure you follow through all the steps in the fingerprint enrollment process. When you reach the last step, your phone will prompt you: "Press the top area of your finger against the sensor", "Press the bottom area of your finger against the sensor", "Press the left area of your finger against the sensor", or "Press the right area of your finger against the sensor". When you see one of the preceding instructions, you need to scan your finger one more time to complete the enrollment. When you've finished that, you will see the Rename and OK buttons on the screen, which means you have successfully enrolled a fingerprint. 3.7.5 Why does my phone say "Fingerprint doesn't match" after I've unlocked the screen with my fingerprint? That is because you tried and failed to unlock the screen with your fingerprint, and then you moved your finger slightly on the sensor, which triggered another fingerprint scan. Although you succeeded in unlocking the screen the second time, the failure alert from the first scan will still pop up to remind you that your first fingerprint authentication failed. The alert will stay on the screen for 1 to 2 seconds. The failure of the first authentication could be caused by an incorrect finger position, a peeling finger, or a dirty finger. 3.7.6 How many times can I try my fingerprint before being locked out? 1. When the phone's screen is off, if you try 30 unmatched fingerprints, the phone will lock for 30 seconds. During those 30 seconds, the phone will not respond to any fingerprints. After 30 seconds, you can unlock the phone with the correct fingerprint. When the phone's screen is on, if you enter 6 unmatched fingerprints, the phone will lock for 30 seconds. During those 30 seconds, the phone will not respond to any fingerprints. After 30 seconds, you can unlock the phone with the correct fingerprint. 3.7.7 Does the Huawei Mate 8 support WeChat fingerprint payment? WeChat does not currently support fingerprint payment. We are negotiating with WeChat to enable this function as soon as possible. 3.7.8 Where can I use my fingerprint on the Huawei Mate 8? The Huawei Mate 8 supports the following functions: 1. Using a fingerprint to answer calls and take photos; 2. Using a fingerprint to unlock the screen, log in to a Huawei account, and access File Safe and locked applications; 3. Does not support fingerprint navigation: using a fingerprint to swipe down/up the status bar or view pictures; 4. Does not support double touch to clear the status bar with a fingerprint; Does not support touch to return to the previous menu with a fingerprint.

3.7.9 Can I use my fingerprint to turn on the screen when it turns off during a call? Yes. Currently, you can touch the fingerprint sensor to turn on the screen. For B129 and later versions, touching and holding on the fingerprint sensor will also turn on the screen.

3.8 Google new features 3.8.1 Why can't I use Google Now on Tap? Google Now on Tap has some compatibility issues with EMUI 4.0. The first version of Mate 8 does not have this feature integrated, however, this feature will be supported in the latest version, which is expected to be released by the end of January 2016. Please perform an online update to install the latest version on your phone.

4.1 WeChat 4.1.1 When receiving images from friends in WeChat, what can I do if the application crashes or the screen goes black when I try to view the original image? This problem may be caused by the image's resolution being too large. Because WeChat does not provide any dedicated storage optimizations, this problem may occur when you view high-resolution images. If you don't view or download the original image and just look at the thumbnail, WeChat normally will not crash. Similarly, when you send comparatively high-resolution images and you touch to preview the image, this may also cause the application to crash. Presently, WeChat versions 6.3.5 and later have already been optimized to deal with this problem. If you still encounter crashes or black screens, we will push WeChat to continue optimizing the application. If you receive images with original files of larger than 10 MB, we recommend that you do not use WeChat to view or download them. If you send comparatively high-resolution images, in the same way, please do not use WeChat to view the original images. Use Gallery to view and browse images.

4.1.2 What can I do if the images I receive from friends in WeChat are unclear? This problem may be caused by the following reasons:

 The original image may be unclear.  WeChat compresses images when sending. If the original image is not very clear, then after being compressed the resulting image will also not be clear.  The WeChat application determines the quality of the image according to the network quality. − If the network quality is not good (like 2G or slower or 3G/4G with a poor connection) and you receive an unclear image, a clearer image will only be downloaded if you touch to open the image or view the original image. − If your network quality is good (like 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi), WeChat will automatically download a clearer image. You may notice that an unclear image sometimes quickly changes to a clear one. − If you are on a 4G or Wi-Fi network and a clear image is still not downloaded automatically, this may be because the network is not stable and the WeChat application mistakenly determined the network quality to be poor.  If you send an image internationally, WeChat may compress the image even more and the image may be even less clear when received. When compared to images sent locally, the difference in clarity may be about 1/3. 4.1.3 Why doesn't the WeChat step counter update in real-time? Presently, the WeChat step counter does not update in real-time. If you want to view real-time data, please stop following the WeChat fitness public account and then follow it again. Then, touch the WeChat fitness ranking list. 4.1.4 Why do sights I published in my Moments have sound, but sights in my conversation history do not have sound? According to the way the WeChat application is designed, playing sights in Moments is considered video mode, but the playing mode in individual contacts' albums and in the conversation history is considered a preview and so WeChat does not play sounds. This is part of WeChat's design and is not a problem with your phone. If your phone is connected to a Bluetooth headset or other audio device, the sound may come from the headset or other external device. 4.1.5 Why can't I sometimes download pictures sent from a WeChat friend or in a group? The WeChat server clears picture caches regularly. Therefore, pictures from WeChat chat records or Moments will expire. If the picture caches are cleared, only thumbnails from chat records are available and they cannot be opened or downloaded. If you want to save pictures, it is suggested that you download them before they expire.

4.1.6 Why can't I see the Lucky Money icon on the chat screen with a WeChat friend? To display the Lucky Money icon, touch the "+" button.

If you cannot see the Lucky Money icon, you may have just installed WeChat and logged in for the first time, and the WeChat server may not have configured the settings for Lucky Money. In this case, please exit WeChat and log in again. If the problem persists, it is recommended that you consult the WeChat customer service. 4.1.7 Why can't I send or receive WeChat messages? First, select your preferred theme: open Themes on the home screen, and choose a theme you like. Go back to the home screen, touch Settings > Screen lock & passwords > Screen lock style, select the default (magazine unlock) option and touch Apply to set a magazine unlock. If the problem persists, this may be because WeChat has stopped running in the background. To receive messages, open WeChat. Check whether any third-party phone security manager is installed. If so, delete it or set WeChat to be trusted in the third-party security manager. 4.1.8 Why is there no sound for the first several seconds of a WeChat voice message when I am using a Huawei TalkBand B2? The Huawei TalkBand B2 version is not compatible with WeChat. To solve this problem, please update the Huawei TalkBand B2 to the latest version. 4.1.9 Why can't a WeChat picture be viewed on my phone and why can it be viewed properly on my friend's phone? This may be because the picture's resolution is too high. WeChat does not provide any dedicated storage optimizations, so when you want to view a high resolution picture, the storage gets overloaded and the picture can't be viewed. After you send the picture to your friend, the picture can be viewed properly on your friend's phone. This is because the picture is compressed during transmission. The picture viewed on your friend's phone has a lower resolution, so it can be opened. It is recommended that you use the phone Gallery to view pictures. 4.1.10 When both WeChat and QQ are running in the background, why do I only hear the notification ringtone for WeChat messages? WeChat and QQ have different design logics. The notification ringtone volume for WeChat messages is consistent with that for incoming calls. The notification ringtone volume for QQ messages is consistent with the media volume. Go to Settings > Sound > Volume and make sure the volume is not 0 or too low. 4.1.11 When I am playing a WeChat voice message, why does the message playback start over if I move my phone close to or away from my face? This is due to WeChat's design logic. To ensure that you can hear the complete voice message on a single device and avoid losing any part of the message when you switch devices, the message playback will start over. This is not a phone issue. Please rest assured.

4.1.12 Why do I receive a notification about WeChat on my phone screen? You may receive a notification about WeChat on your phone screen, as shown in the following figure.

This notification is due to a WeChat design defect which is being repaired. This issue will not affect the normal use of WeChat and your phone. Please wait for a new WeChat version and update. 4.1.13 Why can't I share a web page to WeChat or use WeChat payments? Make sure you are logged in to WeChat properly. Otherwise, you may not be able to share a web page or use WeChat payments. 4.1.14 Why does the WeChat display sometimes garble? This may be because WeChat does not support some special characters or WeChat fails to parse an emoticon. The quality of your phone is guaranteed. 4.1.15 What can I do if I can't view pictures in WeChat? Possible causes include:

 The pictures were received a long time ago and not viewed in a timely manner, so the picture cache may have been deleted by the WeChat server. In this case, you can only view them as thumbnails in chat records.  Your microSD card may be damaged. Try replacing it with a new one.  Your WeChat data is copied from another phone and the pictures, voice messages, and videos are lost. Use either of the following methods to solve the problem:

 Go to Settings > Advanced settings > Memory & storage and change the default storage location.  Go to Settings > Apps > WeChat > Permissions and touch Clear cache. 4.1.16 Why does the screen become black after I play a video in WeChat for some time? WeChat is designed such that the phone screen may time out when playing a video as the phone enters sleep mode. To prevent the screen from turning off, go to Settings > Display > Auto-rotate screen and select a proper timeout period or operate the screen when playing a video in WeChat. 4.1.17 Which permissions must be enabled for WeChat? You are advised to enable permissions for storage, your location, phone, camera, SMS, body sensors, contacts, and microphone under Settings > Apps > WeChat > Permissions. 4.1.18 Why is there no sound for a WeChat voice message received?

 Check whether a smart key device is inserted into your phone. Currently smart key devices have not been adapted to Android 6.0 and may cause WeChat audio channel chaos. If you can't play a voice message on your phone, remove the smart key device and try again.  Check whether your phone is paired with a Huawei TalkBand B2. Older versions of the Huawei TalkBand B2 may have audio problems. Please update the Huawei TalkBand B2 to version 21.10.07.09.02 or later. 4.1.19 Why is there no sound for a WeChat voice message sent?

 Check whether a smart key device is inserted in the other phone on which the message is received. Currently smart key devices have not been adapted to Android 6.0 and may cause WeChat audio channel chaos. If you can't play a voice message on your phone, remove the smart key device and try again.  If none of the voice messages received on the other phone have sound, the phone may be faulty. 4.1.20 Why is there no sound for voice or video calls in WeChat? Check whether your phone is connected to a Huawei TalkBand B2 or Bluetooth headset.

Disconnect your phone from any Bluetooth device and try again. 4.1.21 Why do I hear beeps when I am in a voice or video call in WeChat? Check whether your phone is connected to a Huawei TalkBand B2 or Bluetooth headset. Some Bluetooth devices provide a notification with the call time and beep every 30 seconds. This does not indicate a phone or WeChat issue. 4.1.22 Why can't I initiate a video call or send a picture in WeChat?

 Enable required WeChat permissions. You are advised to enable permissions for storage, your location, phone, camera, SMS, body sensors, contacts, and microphone under Settings > Apps > WeChat > Permissions.  WeChat may sometimes encounter audio conflicts. Restart your phone and try again. 4.1.23 What can I do if I sometimes see an overlap on the WeChat Moments screen? Exit WeChat and log in again. This is caused by WeChat itself. Please wait for a new WeChat version for an update or contact WeChat customer service for information. 4.1.24 Why can't I play a video in full screen/landscape mode in WeChat? 1. Sight videos in WeChat Moments cannot be played in full screen/landscape mode. This is not currently supported by WeChat. This is not a phone issue. 2. Videos on WeChat web pages (WeChat Moments/public accounts/shared links) cannot be played in full screen/landscape mode. We have checked with WeChat and confirmed that the issue of WeChat web page videos not playing in full screen mode is caused by compatibility problems between WeChat and Android 6.0. WeChat has solved the issue in version 6.3.9. Please update your WeChat to the latest version. 4.1.25 Why does the screen occasionally display black blocks when I am browsing a web page from a link in WeChat? When WeChat is loading a web page, in rare cases, loading may fail and black blocks may appear on the screen. In this case, please refresh the page or restart your phone.

4.1.26 Why is the WeChat step count inaccurate?

 The step count data is collected around 10:00 P.M. to generate a ranking list and new step count data will not be collected after this time.  If you turn off the step count switch and turn it back on, the step count will start from 0 again, so the step count displayed may be less than your actual step count. 4.1.27 Why does WeChat not respond when I like a friend's moment post? Your network environment may have been poor or the WeChat server may have been busy at that time, which may result in delays. Please wait and try again later. 4.1.28 Why does WeChat freeze or not respond from time to time? WeChat still has some stability issues. It may fail to respond if you have over 1000 contacts or too many chat sessions. When your phone has low power, it will decrease the CPU frequency, affecting WeChat's responsiveness. To address this issue: 1. Go to WeChat > Me > Settings > General > Manage Storage > View WeChat Storage, select unwanted chat records, and touch Delete. 2. Charge your phone and try again. 4.1.29 Why does the screen suddenly become brighter after I enter WeChat's Quick Pay screen? This is a WeChat design strategy to ensure quick scanning of QR codes. 4.1.30 After I finish a video call in WeChat, why does my phone speaker have no sound when the receiver still has sound? This is a small defect in WeChat version 6.3.7. To address this, restart your phone. We have asked WeChat to optimize and fix this issue in version 6.3.8. Please wait for a new WeChat version and update. 4.1.31 What can I do if the volume of QQ or WeChat voice message is too low?

 Check whether the volume has been adjusted to the maximum.  When sending a voice message, make sure the microphone at the bottom of your phone is kept at approximately 10 cm from your mouth. If the distance is too far, the volume may be too low. If the distance is too short, the sound may be distorted.  Close other applications that are occupying network resources. 4.1.32 Why is the WeChat volume so low after I connect my phone to a Huawei TalkBand B2? This is because the Huawei TalkBand B2 does not support volume adjustment for WeChat.

It is recommended that you disconnect your phone from the Huawei TalkBand B2 when you use WeChat voice messaging. 4.1.33 After I use voice messaging in WeChat or QQ, why does my phone speaker sometimes have no sound? This is because you just used WeChat or QQ on your phone. WeChat or QQ will switch speaker mode to receiver mode after playing voice messages. To address this issue, close WeChat or QQ (including in the background) and then start again. 4.1.34 Why do I hear continuous echoes in WeChat voice messages?

 Use another application similar to WeChat and check whether you can still hear any echoes.  Use the Huawei sound recorder to record audio in both normal and meeting modes. Play the recorded audio and check whether you can hear continuous echoes.  If the echoes occur occasionally, WeChat or other similar applications may be defective. Update WeChat to the latest version or contact the WeChat customer service.  If the problem persists, your phone microphone may be faulty. Please take your phone and the purchase invoice to an authorized Huawei service center for inspection. 4.1.35 When I am downloading a game in WeChat, why does a "Mi phone" notification box pop up? This is a small defect in WeChat version 6.3.7. We have asked WeChat to optimize and fix this issue in version 6.3.8. Please wait for a new WeChat version and update. 4.1.36 When I open some web pages in WeChat (or in a browser), why does the screen keep displaying the "loading" notification? This is due to the compatibility issue in the Android 6.0 browser. To address this issue, launch your browser, touch the menu icon in the upper right corner and select Open in a browser. Then, choose the pre-installed browser on your phone. 4.1.37 Why doesn't WeChat run smoothly? This is a small defect in WeChat version 6.3.7. We have asked WeChat to optimize and fix this issue in version 6.3.8. Please wait for a new WeChat version and update. Currently, you can try the following:

 Avoid accumulating too many unread messages and view them in a timely manner.  If the current version number is 6.3.5, do not update to 6.3.7.  If WeChat does not respond when you are in a group chat with many members, please wait and try again.

4.1.38 When I am playing a video in WeChat, why does the previous video start playing with an inverted image? This is a design defect of WeChat itself. We have asked WeChat for optimizations. Please wait for a new WeChat version and update. 4.1.39 Why am I having problems with copy/paste in WeChat on the Huawei Mate 8? The user may have found that the copy/paste menu in WeChat is displayed in different styles: Water-drop bubbles and buttons in the upper right corner appear randomly. This is because WeChat 6.3.8 has a compatibility issue with Android 6.0. We have informed WeChat of the problem, and expect that it will be fixed in WeChat 6.3.9. Please follow up for WeChat updates. The issue will not affect the copy/paste function. If you need to copy/paste, touch and hold the spot where you want to insert the text, and when the copy/paste menu appears, touch paste.

4.1.40 Why can't I shoot a Sight by swiping down on the WeChat main screen with the Huawei Mate 8? WeChat has removed this function in 6.3.8 and later versions. If you would like to shoot a Sight for a friend, select the person you want to send the Sight to, touch +, and touch Sight to start shooting.

4.1.41 Why does my Bluetooth headset stop working after I end a WeChat voice call? If you use a Bluetooth headset for a WeChat voice call while the phone is playing music at the same time, then when you end the voice call, your Bluetooth headset will stop playing music. This is caused by an allocation error on WeChat's part. We have asked WeChat to fix the problem. There is nothing wrong with the phone. Please rest assured. 4.1.42 How should I report WeChat related issues to the WeChat team? In WeChat, search for an ID named "WeChat Team", which provides a feedback channel for users to report problems. Please see the figure below for details.

5.8 When I insert my microSD card into the phone, why does it say the microSD card is damaged or not working? 1. That's probably because the microSD card's file system is damaged, or because the Huawei Mate 8 does not support the file system. Right now the Huawei Mate 8 only supports two kinds of file systems: FAT32 and exFAT. To check your microSD card's file system, plug the microSD card into your computer via a card reader, right-click on it and select Properties. 2. It is recommended that you back up the data on the microSD card, and then format the microSD card in the Huawei Mate 8 through Settings > Advanced settings > Memory & storage > SD card > Format. The steps are as follows:

5.9 Why can't I install an application on my microSD card? 1. The Huawei Mate 8 uses the Android 6.0 system. To provide a more secure and better user experience, the Huawei Mate 8 doesn't allow applications to be installed on the microSD card. 2. Except for the ability to install applications, the microSD card can be used exactly the same way as before.

5.10 What microSD card file systems does the Huawei Mate 8 support? The Huawei Mate 8 supports FAT32 and exFAT, but not NTFS. The phone also supports ultra high speed (UHS) microSD cards. It is recommended that you use an UHS microSD card for a better user experience.

5.11 Why does the phone show that Wi-Fi is still consuming power after I turned it off? Reason 1: This is an error in Google Android 6.0's detection of Wi-Fi power consumption. Wi-Fi is not consuming any power, and will not affect the phone's battery life. Please rest assured. You may further reduce power consumption by turning off Wi-Fi scanning through Settings > Advanced settings > Location access > Menu > Scan settings > Wi-Fi scanning, as shown below.

Issue 01 (2016-02-22) Huawei Proprietary and Confidential 89 Copyright © Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs 5 Network and data sharing

Reason 2: This may be because Wi-Fi had been working for a long time, uploading and downloading large amounts of data. Therefore Wi-Fi has consumed a lot of power. Steps: Open Phone Manager > Traffic manager > Traffic use ranking, and check the applications with high traffic usage. This is caused by normally installed applications that send and receive data through Wi-Fi.

5.12 Why can't I find the microSD card lock option? 1. Please make sure you have inserted the microSD card into your phone. The microSD card password option will only be displayed when an microSD card is inserted. 2. If the microSD card has been inserted, please check whether the microSD card is set as the default storage location. If it is, please change the default storage location to the phone's internal storage. (Reason: when the microSD card is set as the default storage location, your phone will recognize it as internal storage, where the microSD card password is not applicable.) 3. After you've done all of the above, please enter Settings > Advanced settings > Security > Set SD card password to set your password.

Issue 01 (2016-02-22) Huawei Proprietary and Confidential 90 Copyright © Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs Huawei Mate 8 Smartphone Feature FAQs 5 Network and data sharing

5.13 Why can't I set my microSD card as the default storage location? Please make sure you have not set a password (lock) on the microSD card. You cannot set a microSD card with a password as the default storage location. It is recommended that you remove the password through Settings > Advanced settings > Security > Set SD card password. You can then set your microSD card as the default storage location through Settings > Advanced settings > Memory & storage > Storage settings.

5.14 Why doesn't my phone recognize my microSD card? 1. Please make sure you are using a microSD card from a branded manufacturer, such as Kingston or SanDisk. Do not use low quality microSD cards purchased from unofficial stores. Such microSD cards have issues regarding timing compatibility. You may not be able to use them with your phone normally. 2. Huawei phones currently do not support non-standard microSD cards. Non-standard microSD cards have an additional metal plate, as shown below in the red circle, allowing functions other than storage. If you are using this kind of microSD card, you can simply cover the metal plate with a layer of tape (about 0.1 mm thick) to use the storage function of the card properly.

3. The Huawei Mate 8 does not support the NTFS file format. If you are using an NTFS format microSD card, please back up your data on your computer, and reformat the card to exFAT.

5.15 Why does my phone mistake my microSD card for another brand? Your phone recognizes a microSD card by reading its chip rather than identifying it from its appearance. This issue usually occurs when a microSD card manufacturer outsourced the card production to another manufacturer. Although the card looks like a product from the outsourcer, the inside comes from the contracted manufacturer.

7.1.17 Why does the ISO value remain unchanged regardless of the exposure time in Pro camera mode? To ensure proper exposure, the ISO value decreases as the exposure time increases. However, there is a lower limit for the ISO value (64). If the ISO value has already decreased to its lower limit, it will remain unchanged even when the exposure time continues to increase. 7.1.18 Why do I see noise and black spots on the viewfinder when I am taking photos at night? Your phone is able to automatically adjust the ISO value based on the ambient brightness. If the ambient brightness is low or the environment is dark, the ISO value automatically increases, magnifying the noise at the same time and showing black spots on the viewfinder. Currently, this mechanism is adopted on all . 7.1.19 Does my phone support optical image stabilization (OIS)? Yes. Your phone supports 3-axis OIS in the X, Y, and Z directions. The maximum stabilization angle is increased to 1.5 degrees. To prevent users from disabling the OIS function due to a misoperation, in B116 and later versions, the OIS menu under Camera > Settings has been removed. The OIS function is turned on by default. 7.1.20 Why can't I take good macro photos with my phone? Please adjust the distance between your phone and the subject, and try not to get too close. Because the lens has a relatively wide aperture, getting too close to the subject might not produce the best results. Slightly increasing the distance will help improve the result. 7.1.21 Does my phone support macro shooting? At what distance can I carry out macro shooting? Yes. 10 cm. 7.1.22 Why is it that when I take a picture with the flash on, sometimes one light is on and sometimes two? When you take pictures, your camera has two flashes: the pre-flash and the main flash. During the pre-flash, only the cold color temperature light will flash; during the main flash, the brightness of the cold and warm color temperature lights is determined by the surrounding light level. 7.1.23 Why are macro/regular/landscape photos taken by the rear camera fuzzy? Please check with users for specific issues. There are three scenarios: 1. Macro photos are blurry. Because our product has a relatively wide aperture and a shallow depth of field, getting too close to the subject can make the photo blurry. Increasing the distance between your phone and the subject will help improve the result.Increasing the distance between your

phone and the subject will help improve the photo quality. It is recommended that you keep a distance of at least 10 cm. 2. Photos taken during normal shooting are blurry. It is recommended that users take photos after the camera has focused on the subject. If the problem persists, go to an authorized Huawei service center so the phone can be checked. 3. Landscape photos are blurry. Please check whether you are using the latest version. If not, update your phone to the latest version. Also, to improve the user experience when taking photos, we will continue to optimize the algorithms. A new version will be released soon. Please follow us for updates. Note: If the issue persists after updating the system, please report it to R&D through TCRMS/ICARE. 7.1.24 Why does my phone take clear photos but fuzzy videos? To ensure the quality of videos, an autofocus function has been added to video shooting. If the scene you are shooting changes too fast, the autofocus function will adjust to catch up with the changes, resulting in a fuzzy video. It is recommended that you select manual focus to improve the focus speed.

7.2 Music and video 7.2.1 Can my phone play HD videos? Yes. 7.2.2 What can I do if the playback of a local song or video freezes, has noise, or has no sound? Step 1 The microSD card that stores the song or video may be damaged or faulty. Play a song or video stored in your phone's internal storage for comparison. Step 2 Close background applications. If too many applications are running in the background, the internal storage may be overloaded, making the song or video playback freeze. Step 3 Check whether the speaker is blocked. If so, the playback quality can be affected. ----End

7.2.3 Why do I hear breaking sounds when my phone is playing a song? To give you an optimal music experience, your phone balances between the sound effect and volume. For some songs, the volume may be so high that you think the sound is breaking. If you do not like this, you can manually lower the volume.

7.2.4 Why do I hear noises when I am using QQ Music? QQ Music has its own sound effects, which may be affected when overlapping with your phone's pre-installed sound effects. In this case, you are advised to use the pre-installed music player or turn off QQ Music's sound effects. 7.2.5 When I am using a third-party application to record a call, why is only my voice recorded? The third-party application you use for recording may be faulty. Please use the pre-installed call recorder or sound recorder to record calls. 7.2.6 After I connect a headset to my phone, why is the notification tone for the end of a WeChat voice message playback played from my phone's speaker instead of the headset? This is a WeChat design. To ensure that you receive, the notification tone for the end of a voice message playback is played from your phone's speaker. 7.2.7 How do I use USB audio to play and record audio? Connect a USB audio device to your phone through the USB port. Then, you can play and record audio using that device. 7.2.8 Why doesn't my phone auto-pause the music when a call comes in? This is because some third-party music applications, such as some versions of QQ music, allow the user to control music playing for a better user experience. When a call comes in, users can manually pause the music. If you find this inconvenient, it is recommended that you use the Huawei music player, which will auto-pause the music when a phone call comes in. 7.2.9 When I touch to play an online video in Huawei Mate 8's video application, why does it prompt that it is unable to play the video? The video application has optimized video playing for some types of video sources. Please check for updates of the application in the Google Play Store, and update the application to V1.3.33 or later.

8.1.6 In the timeline on the messaging screen, why are messages from an earlier time displayed at the bottom? On the messaging screen, the timeline shows the time the messages are sent. Please check when the message was sent. Messages are listed based on the time they are received. Newly received messages will be displayed at the bottom so it's easier for you to read them. 8.1.7 Why do long text messages arrive on my phone in segments? Usually you will receive one long text message (over 70 Chinese characters or 160 English characters). But in some rare cases, the carrier network may split the long text message into several regular sized text messages. Your phone has nothing to do with this. It is recommended that you consult your carrier. 8.1.8 Why does my phone display message successfully delivered even when I send a message to an invalid number? Some carriers allow users to send text messages to an invalid number, some do not. It depends on the message center. You may consult your carrier. This is not a quality issue with your phone. If you have enabled delivery reports on your phone, when you send a text message to a vacant number under some carriers' network, you will see the "message delivered" notification on your screen. If such an issue occurs, you may consult your carrier. This is not a quality issue with your phone.

9 Calls and contacts

9.1 Calls 9.2 Contacts

9.1 Calls 9.1.1 Why does my phone show I have a 4G signal, but I can't make calls?

 Check whether you are using a non-standard nano-SIM card or a manually cut SIM card. If so, replace it with a standard one from a service counter.  Move your phone to a place with better signal reception and try again.  Restart your phone or update it to the latest version. 9.1.2 Does my phone support directional handsfree calls? Yes. When you are in a handsfree call, touch the directional icon in the upper right corner to enable directional handsfree mode. In a normal handsfree call, sounds are collected from all directions. Therefore, the peripheral noises may affect the call quality. In directional handsfree mode, the sound collection is directional with the range of 120 degrees below the phone added and other directions suppressed, reducing noise interferences. This allows you to have a handsfree call while watching the TV without letting the TV sound affect your call quality. 9.1.3 Does my phone support virtual HD call? Yes. To enable it, go to Dialer > Menu > Settings > turn on Virtual HD call.

Virtual HD call can: Double the valid call bandwidth and get a clearer and more natural voice experience using a virtual bandwidth signal.

9.1.4 Why do I hear echoes when two phones are used for a handsfree call or WeChat voice call? The two phones may be too close to each other. In this case, one phone's speaker volume is loud, which is easily received by the other phone's microphone and played from the phone again, resulting in echoes and noises.

Please use receiver mode or lower the speaker volume if the two phones are close to each other. You are advised to make handsfree calls with the two phones away from each other. 9.1.5 Why do I hear rustle when I use a headset for calls? To ensure that you can tell whether the other party has hung up or the call drops when no one is speaking, a part of the background noise is reserved. This is to bring you a better call experience and is not a phone issue. 9.1.6 Why do I hear noises when I use a headset for calls? Some third-party applications (such as WeChat and Baidu Tieba) quickly invoke the speaker interface after you set up a call (about 200 ms), so the sounds come from the receiver. If your phone automatically enters handsfree mode when a call comes in, this is caused by a third-party application (such as WeChat or Baidu Tieba) not your phone system. Turn on Turn Off Speaker in WeChat or close unnecessary background applications. 9.1.7 Why does my phone vibrate when I end a call? If you often drive and can't touch your phone for calls, or simply put down your phone after a call ends when you are busy, it may be hard to tell whether the call has successfully ended because the screen is turned off. Therefore, as a new feature on your phone, the vibration is a signal indicating that the call has successfully ended. Note: 1. Your phone will only vibrate if the other party hangs up. 2. The vibration does not have a switch and is enabled by default. 9.1.8 Why does the headset announce the caller name when a call comes in? Go to Dialer and touch > Settings. Check whether Call broadcast is turned on. If so, and your phone is connected to a headset, the headset will announce the caller name (number for unknown callers). 9.1.9 How do I set my phone to display the company and position information on the incoming call screen? The company and position information is derived from the contacts information, which you need to update. 9.1.12 Why does the speaker make crackling noises when I play music in speaker mode? 1. Many songs on the Internet are lossy audio files. That is why the speaker may make crackling noises when playing such songs. 2. The Huawei Mate 8's speaker can produce a large volume. It can make slight crackling noises when playing lossy music files at maximum volume in speaker mode. 3. You can play a ringtone pre-installed on your phone and see if the same issue occurs. If it doesn't, then this is not a quality issue with the speaker. 4. Version B129SP02 has optimized the sound effect in speaker mode. Update your phone to the latest version. 5. If the issue persists, please take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center. 9.1.13 Why is the sound from the receiver so low when I make a call? 1. The Huawei Mate 8 has a large screen. Please make sure you have placed the receiver to your ear, otherwise the volume can appear to be low. 2. If you make a call in a noisy location, the background noise can easily drown out the sound from the receiver. Please try again in a quieter place. 3. The Huawei Mate 8 has a Loud voice mode. When you turn up the volume to the max, press the volume button again to activate Loud voice mode. The volume will increase, but the quality of the sound will be slightly compromised. Please check if the receiver is blocked by your phone's cover. 9.1.14 Why does the receiver make a strange/screeching/crackling noise during calls? 1. The Huawei Mate 8 has an added Virtual HD call function that expands the frequency band of the sounds to make them more realistic to users. You can switch the function on/off through Dialer > Settings > Virtual HD call to choose the sound effect you prefer. 2. The Huawei Mate 8 has a Loud voice mode. When the volume is already at the maximum, press the volume button again to activate Loud voice mode. The volume will increase, but the quality of the sound will be slightly compromised. If you feel the sound is too loud/ screeching/crackling, you can press the volume down button to exit Loud voice mode. 9.1.15 Why does my phone not ring when a call comes in during recording? To ensure the recording quality, your phone will switch to mute mode to avoid interruptions. If the phone rings during recording, the recording process and quality will be affected. When a call comes in during recording, your phone will vibrate.

If you have enabled Pocket mode, your phone will vibrate when a call comes in as long as it is in a pocket or placed face down, even if vibration is turned off. Please follow the instructions below to turn off Pocket mode: Enter Dialer > Settings > Pocket mode, and turn it off.

2. If a call comes in during recording, your phone will vibrate even if you have disabled vibration. 9.1.17 Why does my phone show that all the incoming calls are from one SIM card? If someone calls you on the number of SIM card 2 (or SIM card 1), but your phone shows the call is from SIM card 1 (or SIM card 2), please follow the following method: 1. First, check whether you can make a call normally with both SIM cards. 2. If you can, check whether you have enabled call forwarding for SIM card 1 or 2. 3. If you are forwarding calls from SIM card 2 (or SIM card 1) to SIM card 1 (or SIM card 2), please turn off forwarding. How to find out whether you have enabled call forwarding: 1. Call your carrier (if you are using a China Telecom SIM card, this is your only option); 2. Enter Dialer > Settings > Call forwarding (under Card 1 or Card 2) as shown in the picture below. This method is only applicable to China Mobile or China Unicom SIM cards.

9.2 Contacts 9.2.1 Why do duplicated contacts without phone numbers appear in my phone's contacts? There are two scenarios: Scenario 1: There are duplicated contacts for A and only the contact name and free call are displayed. There is no phone number.

Scenario 2: There are duplicated contacts for A and only the contact name and WeChat Moments are displayed. There is no phone number.

The cause is as follows: Your contacts are saved to your SIM card. When WeChat or QQ tries to associate with your phone contacts, the association with SIM card contacts may fail and WeChat or QQ may insert a duplicated contact without phone number to your phone. This is caused by the third-party application. To address this issue, you can: Copy contacts from your SIM card to your phone and then synchronize them to WeChat or QQ.

9.2.2 What can I do if the SIM card contacts are lost due to third-party application issues? Currently you can use some third-party application to restore contacts to the SIM card, but the application does not actually write data to the SIM card. Instead, the application only stores the data temporarily in the database. After you restart your phone, the contacts stored in the SIM card will be lost. Solution: Please avoid directly using a third-party application to copy contacts to the SIM card. If you need to use a third-party application, copy the contacts to your phone and then move them to the SIM card using your phone's contacts application. 11.1 Why is there no sound from the headset after I connect it to my phone? Check whether you have attached the headset properly. The headset jack is tight and you may need to insert the headset connector more firmly.

11.2 Does the headset that comes with my phone support wind noise reduction? No, but your phone supports wind noise reduction. When your phone is connected to a headset with a microphone (the one that comes with your phone is recommended), a wind noise reduction switch is available in the upper left corner on the call screen. You can turn on that switch in a windy environment.

11.3 Why are there noticeable stains on my new headset/charging cable? Transportation might cause accessories to rub against the box repeatedly, which has caused stains. You can wipe the stains off with a tissue. This will not affect the normal use of the accessories. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you think this has affected your use of the product, we can send you a new accessory free of charge.

Note: Check with the user to see whether the stained item is a headset or charging cable. Send the information about the stained item and the user's contact information and address to R&D through the TCMS.

11.4 After I plug a headset into my phone, why does the phone display: Incompatible headset, may not work properly? This might be because you plugged the headset into your phone too slowly or didn't plug it all the way in. As a result, your phone mistook it for a TRS headset and displayed that alert. This notification will not affect the actual usage of the headset. It is recommended that you unplug the headset and plug it in again, or press a button on the headset, and then the alert will disappear.
