Peck Department of Biology, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5B6, Canada stewart_peck@carleton. ca Abstract. The beetle fauna of the island of Dominica is summarized. It is presently known to contain 269 genera, and 361 species (in 42 families), of which 347 are named at a species level. Of these, 62 species are endemic to the island. The other naturally occurring species number 262, and another 23 species are of such wide distribution that they have probably been accidentally introduced and distributed, at least in part, by human activities. Undoubtedly, the actual numbers of species on Dominica are many times higher than now reported. This highlights the poor level of knowledge of the beetles of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles in general. Of the species known to occur elsewhere, the largest numbers are shared with neighboring Guadeloupe (201), and then with South America (126), Puerto Rico (113), Cuba (107), and Mexico-Central America (108). The Antillean island chain probably represents the main avenue of natural overwater dispersal via intermediate stepping-stone islands. The distributional patterns of the species shared with Dominica and elsewhere in the Caribbean suggest stages in a dynamic taxon cycle of species origin, range expansion, distribution contraction, and re-speciation. Resumo Holdefer DR, Garcia FRM. 2015. Análise faunística de cerambicídeos (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) em floresta subtropical úmida brasileira. Entomotropica 30(13): 118-134. O trabalho objetivou caracterizar a assembleia de cerambicídeos presente em fragmento de Floresta Subtropical Úmida do sul brasileiro, através de análise faunística, e dos índices de diversidade. Também comparar a eficiência de amostragem dos modelos de armadilha Malaise e armadilha atrativa. No fragmento as armadilhas foram distribuídas na área central e de borda, entre outubro 2005/outubro 2006. Amostrou-se 63 espécies distribuídas em Cerambycinae (S = 28) e Lamiinae (S= 35). Verificou-se a presença de 37 espécies raras, pouco frequentes, acidentais e não dominantes e quatro predominantes: Nyssodrysina lignaria, Eurysthea lacordairei, Chydarteres dimidiatus dimidiatus e Batus hirticornis. A Malaise amostrou maior riqueza, enquanto a atrativa foi mais equitativa. A assembleia de cerambicídeos, através do grande número de espécies raras, baixa constância e dominância, apresentou-se rica e diversa dentro do fragmento em sucessão. -

Elle n'est pas dangereuse, menaçante ou angoissante dès lors qu'on apprend à l'observer dans ses moindres détails mais plutôt une source intarissable de joies. Le plaisir de faire des découvertes surprenantes et de progresser dans la connaissance du milieu illustrant le mieux ce que le mot biodiversité, tant à la mode aujourd'hui, signifie. Pour aborder le monde des Insectes. de loin le plus complexe qui soit, il faut s'armer de patience et seule la flamme interne d'une passion, pour leur beauté et leurs formes, pourra maintenir et raviver cette fascination qu'ils génèrent en nous. Il est fréquent que l'on vienne me rendre visite pour me demander s'il existe un ou plusieurs ouvrages didactiques sur les insectes de Guyane. Cela permettrait aux instituteurs et professeurs de sciences naturelles d'aider leurs élèves à mieux connaître leur région et prendre goût à découvrir la Nature. Le même besoin se fait sentir chez les métropolitains en quête de loisirs éducatifs. Jusqu'à présent aucun guide traitant des insectes n'avait vu le jour pour répondre à cette demande locale pourtant persistante. Silvolab et le Crestig ont aujourd'hui marqué le désir de remédier à ce manque. -

Lados do pronoto com pubescência predominantemente (1985) descreveu Alphus similis, relatou a semelhança entre amarelada e densa, à frente e atrás dos tubérculos, na esta espécie, Alphus tuberosus (Germar 1824) e Alphus metade posterior com pontos e pubescência esparsa ou capixaba Marinoni & Martins, 1978 e propôs uma chave para inteiramente pubescente; terço apical dos élitros com identificação deste grupo de espécies. 269 Exotic bark- and wood-boring Coleoptera in the United States: recent establishments and interceptions1 Robert A. Haack Abstract: Summary data are given for the 25 new species of exotic bark- and wood-boring Coleoptera first reported in the continental United States between 1985 and 2005, including 2 Buprestidae (Agrilus planipennis and Agrilus prionurus), 5 Cerambycidae (Anoplophora glabripennis, Callidiellum rufipenne, Phoracantha recurva, Sybra alternans, and Tetrops praeusta), and 18 Scolytidae (Ambrosiodmus lewisi, Euwallacea fornicatus, Hylastes opacus, Hylurgops palliatus, Hylurgus ligniperda, Orthotomicus erosus, Phloeosinus armatus, Pityogenes bidentatus, Scolytus schevyrewi, Tomicus piniperda, Xyleborinus alni, Xyleborus atratus, Xyleborus glabratus, Xyleborus pelliculosus, Xyleborus pfeilii, Xyleborus seriatus, Xyleborus similis, and Xylosandrus mutilatus). In addition, summary interception data are presented for the wood-associated beetles in the families Bostrichidae, Buprestidae, Cerambycidae, Curculionidae, Lyctidae, Platypodidae, and Scolytidae, based on the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service “Port Information Network” database for plant pests intercepted at US ports of entry from 1985 to 2000. Wood-associated insects were most often intercepted on crating, followed by dunnage and pallets. The five imported products most often associated with these 8341 interceptions were tiles, machinery, marble, steel, and ironware.
