** 2015 will be the 49ers first in Conference USA and first as a member of the FBS.

** The Charlotte 49ers start-up football program took the fast track to the FBS. The program debuted in 2013 and played for two years (2013, 2014) as an FCS Independent before making the jump to the FBS and Confer- ence USA in 2015. The 49ers were invited to be a member of Conference USA in the summer of 2012 – be- fore holding their first practice.

** The 49ers will move to Conference USA in 2015 with an opportunity to gain full FBS member status with bowl eligibility in 2016.

** Head coach Brad Lambert and his 10-man full-time staff have 115 years of collegiate coaching experience. Lambert (26) and coordinators Jeff Mullen (24) and Matt Wallerstedt (23) each have over 20 years of colle- giate coaching experience.

** The 49ers coaching staff includes three changes from 2014: Defensive Coordinator Matt Wallerstedt will be in his first season with the 49ers and will be in charge of the inside linebackers. Former NFL and Wake Forest standout Aaron Curry was promoted to a full-time position as Defensive Line Coach after spending the 2014 season as a Defensive Graduate Assistant. Former 49er Mark Hogan, who scored the 49ers historic first touchdown on an return, was hired as a defensive graduate assistant.

** In addition to the 16 players that signed with the 49ers in February, the 49ers roster is bolstered by the arriv- al of true freshman Cameron Clark (6-5; 260 OL), who signed in December and enrolled in January, a handful of transfers who sat out the 2014 season and will be ready for action in 2015: WR Uriah LeMay (Georgia), DL Josh Manley (Syracuse), RB Garrison Duncan (Delaware State) and DB Anthony Covington (Appalachian State) and the return of three players who missed all or most of the 2014 season due to injury: ILB Caleb Clayton-Molby; ILB Nick Cook; DL Devon Johnson. Clayton-Molby started the first three games as an inside linebacker and was the 49ers top returning tackler from 2013. Cook, who had transferred in from But- ler C.C., played in only the first game of the year, as a starter. Johnson missed the entire 2014 season while recovering from an Achilles injury that sidelined him during the 2013 season.

** Top returners include a pair of 1000-yard performers. RB Kalif Phillips rushed for a school-record 1441 yards (131.0/gm) and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2014. Slot receiver had a school-re- cord 1373 receiving yards (124.8/gm) as a red-shirt sophomore in 2014. Phillips had six games with 150 or more rushing yards and seven 100-yard games. Duke had six games with at least 100 receiving yards includ- ing two games of over 200 yards. S Branden Dozier topped the 49ers with 86 tackles as a junior while NT Larry Ogunjobi topped the 49ers with 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks as a red-shirt sophomore.

** QB Matt Johnson started the first eight games before being sidelined with injury. The 49ers went 3-5 in those eight games and Johnson threw for 1941 yards and 13 TDs with 8 INT. Johnson started all 11 games during the 49ers inaugural 2013 season, as well. Lee McNeill started the last three games (2-1) of 2014 and threw for 974 yards and 6 TDs with 3 INTs. The 49ers also have rising red-shirt freshman Brooks Barden in the QB picture. The three-star recruit out of Cartersville, Ga. Sat out the 2014 season as a red-shirt.

** In the 49ers’ first two seasons, of the 22 starting positions, an average of 15.55 were held by either fresh- men or sophomores, leaving 6.45 as either juniors or seniors. Three players OL Jamal Covington; OL Danny Book and DL Larry Ogunjobi have started all 22 games in school history. ** Charlotte’s offense put up 487.4 yards of total offense per game in 2014 and averaged 38.9 points per game. Charlotte’s quick strike offense scored on a school-record 7 one-play touchdown drives and had a re- cord 22 touchdown drives that lasted 90 seconds or less.

** The 49ers offense had nine TD catches of 50 or more yards and five TD runs of 50 or more yards.

** The 49ers 15,314-seat will have lights added this spring for the 2015 season. The lights will first be used during the 49ers 2015 Spring Game,April 18 at 6 p.m. CHARLOTTE 49ERS PLAYER BREAKDOWN (YEAR REFLECTS FALL 2015 CLASSIFICATION) OFFENSE: Returning starters (9) QB: 8 MATT JOHNSON 6-3 230 R-Jr. inj v.
