In his second year, the Governors went 8-4 (8-1 vs. FCS foes) after going 1-45 over the previous four years.

** Healy hired an entire new staff for the 49ers. Of his 10 hires, he worked with six during his coaching career at APSU and as an assistant at UT-Chattanooga. A seventh, QB coach Mark Carney, was his QB coach during his playing days at Richmond. Six members of the coaching staff (Healy, Marcus West, Brandon Cooper, Sean Dawkins, Eddie Hicks and Max Thurmond) were on Austin Peay’s staff during the turnaround season of 2017.

** According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), DE Alex Highsmith was the 10th-highest graded edge defender in the country (89.7 ‘elite’ grade) and the highest-graded edge defender in run defense (90.6 ‘elite’ grade). His 37 stops in run defense were the second-most in the country and his 13.2 run-stop pct. was third-best.

** According to PFF, Highsmith was the second-highest graded edge defender (behind ODU’s Oshane Ximines). He led C-USA’s edge defenders with 46 defensive stops, 37 run stops and a 13.2 run-stop pct.

** RB Benny LeMay ranked second in C-USA in rushing (1,228 yds; 102.3/gm) and all-purpose yards (1,510 yds; 125.8/gm). He put up the 49ers first 1,000-yard rushing season at the FBS level and has over 2,000 career rushing yards (2,135), averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

** RB Benny LeMay ranked 13th in the FBS with 1,228 rushing yards, last year. ** Breakout star K Jonathan Cruz (17-22 FG; 27-27 PAT), a second-team all-C-USA choice, was named first team all-C-USA by PFF. He had the second-longest made field goal in the FBS (GW 56-yarder at FAU), lastyear, had the two longest kicks in C-USA (56, 54) and set school records for FGM from 40+ (8-of-10) and 50+ (3-of-4).

** Defensive standouts Ben DeLuca and Jeff Gemmell head into their senior years likely to finish their careers ranked first and second in all-time tackles. The duo have ranked 1-2 for the 49ers in tackles the last two years. DeLuca (262 career tackles), a two-time Honorable Mention all-C-USA and former Freshman All-America, led the 49ers with 91 tackles last year and is just five tackles shy of the 49ers all-time mark (267, Karrington King). Gemmell (220 career tackles), who led the 49ers with 106 tackles in 2017 and added 87 in 2018, is 47 tackles off the top mark.

** Three-year starter Tyriq Harris (3.62 Biology) is a two-time C-USA all-Academic selection who earned CoSIDA Academic all-District honors. A 2018 Honorable Mention selection, Harris ranks in the 49ers top 10 in tackles and is fourth in career sacks. Last year, he posted career highs in tackles, TFL and sacks.

** Two-year starting OL Cam Clark was the highest-graded run blocker in C-USA, according to Pro Football Focus.

** Charlotte landed four players on the C-USA all-Freshman team: K Jonathan Cruz (17-22 FG; 27-27 PAT), WRs Victor Tucker (team-high 54 rec.; 712 yds) and Rico Arnold (22 rec.; 302 yds), and LB Henry Segura (10 tackles; 1.0 TFL; 1.0 Sack; 1 FF; 1 FR).

** WR Victor Tucker (team-high 54 rec.; 712 yds) ranked third among FBS freshmen in receptions and receiving yards, last year.

** Charlotte has 55 players from , including 30 from the greater Charlotte area.
