Safety: Watching things around you at all times and putting forth 100% effort to ensure the safety of not only our guests, but of yourself and fellow team members.

Hospitality: Being Courteous AND greeting guests with “Hello”, “Please”, “Thank you”, and “Have a great day”. We want to treat our guests how we would expect to be treated if we went somewhere.

As the season progresses, you will find that our guests include children, the elderly and people of every race, creed, nationality, sexual orientation and every possible point of view. It is our job to entertain and respect every guest, and at the same time keep them safe.

You will be required to undergo special training to ensure a thorough understanding of your job, such as operating rides, games, food stands and any other specialized equipment necessary to successfully fulfill your job as a member of the Adventureland team. You are the key to the success of the many safety programs which are established to ensure the safety of our guests, yourself and the safety of our fellow team members.

Navigating the Park Section 1- Paragraph C

The park is laid out roughly in the shape of a long narrow rectangle leading from Route 110. The park has three entrances, one at the restaurant which is always locked, another by the Merry Go Round and a third at the other end of the park by the Pirat Ship.

The side gate entrance is off of route 110 and leads to the Main Ticket Booth, Restaurant and Arcade. In Kiddie Land guests will find our kid friendly rides and some family favorites such as the , Wave Swing, Balloon Tower, and Merry-Go-Round.

The center of the park also known as the Midway extends from the Frog Bog to the back gate and is surrounded by many of our larger rides including the Crocodile Run, Musik Express, Roller Coasters, and Ghost House. In the other end of the park you will find the 3 Generations Café, Antique Cars, Pirat Ship and Adventure Falls .

The easiest way to direct a guest to a location throughout the park would be to instruct them to follow the Red Line. The Red Line runs from the back gate to the restaurant, almost anything you need can be found along the Red Line.

If a parent or guardian needs to contact an on-duty team member, they may do so by calling the park. Please have your parent or guardian call the park at 631-694-6868 ext. 0. This will connect them directly to a park representative. We will ensure that you will receive any message that is left for you, or we will get you a break so that you may take or return the phone call.

Infractions Section 3- Paragraph B

Adventureland has created a supervisory staff that watches over all aspects of the park. These supervisors report directly to management on an hourly basis about any concerns throughout the park. If they feel you are operating your station in an unsafe or improper manner they will recommend that you be written up on a team member disciplinary form and/or be sent home for the remainder of your shift. These procedures have been implemented for the well-being of everyone involved at the park.

The following list gives you an idea of what is considered to be inappropriate behavior. These actions go against our “Philosophy of Fun”, jeopardize your job security and in some cases the resulting situations can endanger the safety of our guests and fellow team members. Disciplinary action, dismissal or legal action may result from any of the following:

1. Falsification of application 2. Giving away or receiving free food, merchandise or rides 3. Tardiness- tardiness on your lunch or dinner break is unacceptable. The “breaker” needs to submit their break sheet at the end of their shift; therefore; it is important that you both synchronize your timing. All of the breakers break sheets will be reviewed by supervision. If lateness becomes a chronic occurrence you will be penalized. Therefore, you need to communicate with one another so there are not any mix-ups. 4. Unexcused absenteeism 5. Insubordination 6. Unprofessional behavior 7. Therefore, Adventureland has established a policy which sets forth the guidelines for appropriate online conduct and outlines the misuse of this communication medium. Some examples of social media communications are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat.

All team members are required to maintain the professional standards outlined below or be subject to disciplinary action including write-ups, suspension, and termination of employment.  Speak respectfully about current and past team members of Adventureland. If you see negative opinions, damaging comments or criticism about yourself or the park do not try to have the post removed or send a written reply; that will only escalate the situation. Forward this information to City Hall so that appropriate action may be taken to address the misuse of social media communications. Please note that this Social Media Policy is for your well-being while working here at the park – feel free to talk with Paul or anyone in City Hall with any questions or concerns!

Cell Phone Usage Section 3- Paragraph D

Cell phones may NOT be brought to your work station. Adventureland has a zero tolerance cell phone policy. Electronic devices are a huge distraction and a safety violation that will not be tolerated. There are lockers in the A-Lounge that you may use to lock up your personal belongings and most importantly your cell phone. Please note that if you are seen with your cell phone at your work station you will be written up, sent home and taken off the schedule for one week. In instances where your ride is in motion you may be terminated immediately. This goes for all electronic devices. Cell phones, iPods, iPads, Apple Watch etc…

Dealing with a Dissatisfied Guest Section 3- Paragraph E

Your dealings with guests may not always be easy and pleasant. Remember that our guests can get tired, hot and frustrated with you and the parks policies and these feelings may reflect on the way they deal with you. Treat this as an opportunity to really make a difference in that guest’s day.

Here are a few tips that you can use when dealing with a dissatisfied guest:

1. Give the guest your undivided attention. 2. Listen to the complaint or concern without interruption. 3. Always make eye contact and speak with confidence. 4. Respond immediately and assist the guest if you can, otherwise refer them to someone who can. 12 Good Luck Out There – Smile At The Guest – Always Make Eye Contact

Adventureland Team Member Handbook

5. Continue to smile and be pleasant. Your calm approach may help to calm them. 6. Always be understanding and ask yourself, “What can I do to make this guest happy?” 7. Never promise a guest anything. 8. Never argue with an unhappy guest. 9. Use logic and common sense to develop an alternative solution. 10. Contact park supervision for further assistance.

Focus on Hospitality Section 3- Paragraph F

People remember good customer service and never forget bad customer service! Smile at the guest and say Hello! Negative attitudes are not acceptable at Adventureland. Always remember that our guests are here to have fun and that cannot happen without great customer service. STRIVE TO ALWAYS BE YOUR BEST SELF WHEN INTERACTING WITH GUESTS THAT MAKE YOUR JOB POSSIBLE. We always want to provide WOW customer service. Treat our guests how you wish to be treated when you go somewhere.

Aland FAQ’s Section 3- Paragraph G

Team members are named "Star of the Day" and are given vouchers for various items like free lunch. In addition all team members are entitled to receive two P.O.P bracelets per month for every month that you work. These bracelets do not rollover, and must be used within that month. SECTION FOUR: FOCUS ON SAFETY

Guest Safety Section 4 – Paragraph A

One of your most important responsibilities as an Adventureland Team Member is safety. Every day you will be involved in situations in which safety will be an important issue, whether you are operating a ride, preparing food in a food stand or operating a game. Safety is built into our attractions. They are designed and maintained for maximum protection for both you and our guests. Please refer to your assigned department's handbook for information on safety procedures for your department. You will be thoroughly trained on how to most effectively ensure safety at each work station that you are assigned.

Personal Safety Section IV – Paragraph B

In addition to ensuring the safety of our guests, you need to understand how to keep yourself safe at all times. In general, be aware of your surroundings and be sure to follow the training programs that you undergo exactly as they were taught. We will not compromise your safety for any reason, so failure to follow the safety instructions given by your trainer can result in the loss of your job.

To better educate you on the importance of your safety throughout your work day, safety pamphlets and booklets are available in City Hall and the A-Lounge.

If you happen to be injured while working, please report it to a manager or supervisor so that we may fill out the proper paperwork and report it to the main office. Do not leave the park without notifying City Hall or the A-Lounge – we need to document any and all injuries. To ensure the safety of both our team members and guests and NYS EMT is always on staff at the park.

If you ever have any questions regarding the safety of our guests or yourself, please notify management or our Park Safety staff immediately.

Dangerous Weather Conditions 15 Good Luck Out There – Smile At The Guest – Always Make Eye Contact

Adventureland Team Member Handbook

Section IV – Paragraph C

As an outdoor facility, weather conditions will present themselves, at times severe weather may become dangerous. Please see below for the actions to take in case of inclement weather while you are working:

Lightning Storms need to be treated seriously at all times. In the event of a situation consisting of lightning you will need to protect yourself by seeking shelter inside of a building within the park under the direction of a supervisor. You should never leave your work station unattended unless directed to do so. Staying under a tree is not safe! The safest place for you during a lightning storm is in the Restaurant, the Arcade, the Gift Shop, or the A-Lounge.

Rain also plays a factor in whether or not the park will remain open. Adventureland does operate in light to moderate rain so many of our attractions will remain open at those times. In the case of heavy rain, you will be notified to suspend operations of your ride or game and you will be instructed to seek shelter in the A-Lounge.

In Case of Fire Section IV – Paragraph D

1. Remain calm. 2. Evacuate everyone from the area. 3. Report it to anyone with a radio, IMMEDIATELY. 4. Never tamper with a fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are used by pulling the lock-pin, aiming the hose at the base of the flame, and squeezing the handle. Please report any use of a fire extinguisher to management so it can be recharged or replaced.

A blood borne pathogen is defined as an infectious microorganism in human blood and body fluid that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

What is an exposure?

An exposure occurs when the blood or body fluid of another individual comes in contact with an open area on your skin.

Not an exposure: Blood is on my hands, and I have no open cuts or wounds.

Exposure: Blood is on my hands, and there is an open cut where the blood landed.

How to protect yourself:

Adventureland does not authorize or expect any employee who is not properly trained to clean up any sort of body fluid whether it be blood or vomit at any time! The parks official policy on employees cleaning any mess is DO NOT TOUCH and call for help! The members of our maintenance staff are trained on how to properly protect themselves, and on how to properly clean and disinfect any affected areas.

What if I am providing First-Aid?

Adventureland has designated employees who are either certified in First-Aid, CPR/AED, or have a NYS EMT certification. These are the ONLY employees who are permitted to perform first-aid while at the park. They have been properly trained on Adventureland specific policies, as well as receive formal blood borne pathogen recertification training on a yearly basis.

How does this pertain to my Job at Adventureland?

Due to the nature of our rides, guests from time to time do have minor injuries or instances where they become sick on a ride. A minor injury or a guest getting sick will for the most part leave

blood or vomit on or around your immediate work area. Because of this, it is important that you know how to properly protect yourself from a possible exposure.

Adventureland’s official policy on blood, vomit and body fluid clean up; which is to be followed by ALL employees at ALL times is DO NOT TOUCH. Use a radio and call for someone who is trained to clean up such a mess. If you must close your ride to do so, you should close your ride.

The idea of this is not to scare you, the risk of an exposure is slim to none, and the risk of contracting anything from an exposure is extremely small. This is to let you know that there is a risk, no matter how small.

What happens if I am exposed?

For any reason should you feel an exposure has occurred you are required to thoroughly and aggressively wash your hands with SOAP AND WATER for 5 minutes directly after the incident occurs, and then IMMEDIETELY report City Hall to notify us of such an incident so the proper paperwork can be completed, and medical precautions can be taken in the time window that is required.

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW!
