Hospitality: Being Courteous AND greeting guests with “Hello”, “Please”, “Thank you”, and “Have a great day”. We want to treat our guests how we would expect to be treated if we went somewhere. As the season progresses, you will find that our guests include children, the elderly and people of every race, creed, nationality, sexual orientation and every possible point of view. It is our job to entertain and respect every guest, and at the same time keep them safe. You will be required to undergo special training to ensure a thorough understanding of your job, such as operating rides, games, food stands and any other specialized equipment necessary to successfully fulfill your job as a member of the Adventureland team. You are the key to the success of the many safety programs which are established to ensure the safety of our guests, yourself and the safety of our fellow team members. You have a direct influence on how our guests enjoy the park; by focusing on safety and hospitality you will help us to ensure that they all have a safe, fun and memorable time. ********************Rule #1 – SAFETY – SAFETY – SAFETY *********************** ********************Rule #2 – ALWAYS SMILE AT THE GUEST******************** Adventureland History Section 1- Paragraph B ***For over 50 years, Adventureland has been the leader in family fun for guests of all ages*** Adventureland - Long Island's landmark family destination, has roots grounded firmly in the local community. From a small-rides park in a rural farming town, to a world class amusement park amongst a booming industrial hub, our park has been creating family memories for generations. We pride ourselves and our business in providing safe, affordable and local family fun for Long Islanders and residents of the tri-state area. Whether our guests come to spend the whole day or just a few hours, the memories they make here will last a lifetime. As an Adventureland employee, you have the ability to help us achieve our goals. To continue our over 50 year tradition of family fun, we need your help! Your kindness, professionalism and respect for yourself, your workplace and our guests help to shape Adventureland every day. Your role at our park is critical--you represent us every time you put on your uniform. Imagine how you and your family would want to be treated when you are out for a day of fun and laughs. We provide the flexibility and friendliness that is often looked for by the thousands of applicants that have been hired through the years. The Adventureland Way is a way that promotes family togetherness in our Alounge which includes bagels, donuts and orange juice every single Sunday morning. We promote the family values and we hope you will do the same! We have generations of families that have been working through the years as well as many brothers and sisters that continue to work together here at the park! So, enjoy your time here at the park and be sure to Smile – make eye contact with everyone and enjoy your time here because it does go fast! Navigating the Park Section 1- Paragraph C The park is laid out roughly in the shape of a long narrow rectangle leading from Route 110. The park has three entrances, one at the restaurant which is always locked, another by the Merry Go Round and a third at the other end of the park by the Pirat Ship. The side gate entrance is off of route 110 and leads to the Main Ticket Booth, Restaurant and Arcade. In Kiddie Land guests will find our kid friendly rides and some family favorites such as the Ferris Wheel, Wave Swing, Balloon Tower, and Merry-Go-Round. The center of the park also known as the Midway extends from the Frog Bog to the back gate and is surrounded by many of our larger rides including the Crocodile Run, Musik Express, Roller Coasters, and Ghost House. In the other end of the park you will find the 3 Generations Café, Antique Cars, Pirat Ship and Adventure Falls Log Flume. The easiest way to direct a guest to a location throughout the park would be to instruct them to follow the Red Line. The Red Line runs from the back gate to the restaurant, almost anything you need can be found along the Red Line. 3 Good Luck Out There – Smile At The Guest – Always Make Eye Contact Adventureland Team Member Handbook Locations of Commonly Asked and Important Locations: ATM: Restaurant, Arcade, Train Station and the Gift Shoppe Bathroom: Inside the Arcade and Next to the Gift Shoppe Family Bathroom: In the back of the park next to the Gift Shoppe First-Aid: City Hall AED: City Hall Group Sales: Inside the Arcade Guest Relations and Information: City Hall Lost and Found: City Hall Birthday Parties: Restaurant Tickets: Main or Back Ticket Booth SECTION TWO: YOUR EMPLOYMENT Required Paperwork Section 2- Paragraph A **This Section is for your knowledge, all of the discussed paperwork will be completed in person at the park during your orientation with the assistance of the orientation team and park supervisors** You will need to fill out the following paperwork before you are able to be scheduled to work: 1. W-4 Tax Form 2. I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form 3. Notice of Pay Rate 4. Blood borne Pathogen Policy 5. Adventureland Team Member Contract 6. Parent Consent form (16/17 year olds only) 7. If under 18 you must also possess a valid working card. 4 Good Luck Out There – Smile At The Guest – Always Make Eye Contact Adventureland Team Member Handbook When you come for orientation, it is very important that you please bring all of the following documents with you: 1. Recent school ID 2. Driver’s License, Permit, State ID, Passport, or Birth Certificate 3. Social Security Card 4. Working Card 5. Signed Interview “TOP 10” form 6. Signed Team Member Contract 7. Completed Direct Deposit Form and Blank Check (Only if you want direct deposit) Work Schedule Section 2- Paragraph B The Adventureland season begins in March, at which time the park is open only on the weekends until the end of June. We are open seven days a week starting the last week in June through Labor Day. After Labor Day, the park will continue to remain open on weekends only until the last weekend in October. Upon being hired you will be assigned a shift to follow throughout the season. At the beginning of each month you will receive a work schedule for the upcoming month. Schedules are posted in the A-Lounge, City Hall and on our Employee Facebook Page under the “Schedules” album. You will be expected to work when scheduled for the entire season. We understand that things happen; all we ask is that you keep us informed and give us as much notice as possible if you will not be at work. Plan on working weekends and holidays! You must follow your schedule as it is written; this includes Friday and Saturday nights. You only work 2 Saturday nights a month please make sure you are here! All team members should report to the A-Lounge located in the back of the arcade at the start of your shift. When instructed to do so, you may punch in using the time clocks by entering your employee ID number. Your employee ID number will be assigned to you on your first day of work. Never punch in anyone else, this will lead to mistakes and mistakes can lead to a shortage of hours and pay. You must punch in and punch out daily, you cannot forget! Extra hours are available in the summer so feel free to ask about working additional shifts. Requesting Time Off Section 2- Paragraph C WHEN TO WORK – is a scheduling app that you will be using to view and request changes to your schedule! 5 Good Luck Out There – Smile At The Guest – Always Make Eye Contact Adventureland Team Member Handbook If you know you may not be able to work, please let someone in City Hall or the A-Lounge know with at least three days of advanced notice. For extended time off such as for a vacation, please give City Hall at least one week notice. You will use the WHEN TO WORK APP as your primary change of schedule platform.
