The 101St Madonna Della Cava Feast
VOL. 125 - NO. 33 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, AUGUST 13, 2021 $.35 A COPY The 101st Madonna Della Cava Feast The 101st Madonna Della Cava feast honor- ing Maria SS Della Cava, Principal Patron of Pietraperzia, Sicily took place August 6–8, 2021, in Boston’s North End. The three-day celebration News Briefs culminated in a Grand Procession in which the by Sal Giarratani image of the Madonna was carried through the streets, accompanied by society members and marching bands. Thousands Hit Streets Protesting (Photos by Matt Conti Vaccine Passports/Lockdowns MattConti.com) Citizens have taken to the streets in several coun- tries, among them France, Italy, the UK and even Australia to protest vaccine passports and extended lockdowns on the weekend of July 25th. These anti- government protests were strongly denounced by national leaders and police officials. On July 24th, some 160,000 attended public protests in France against president Emmanuel Macron’s vaccine passport requirement, in which those who choose not to accept a COVID vaccine would be excluded from nearly all aspects of public life such as entering restaurants, bars, theatres, public transit, etc. The mandate could also see business owners go to jail for not enforcing the new rules. On July 25th, Macron criticized protesters saying, “This is not free- dom, it is called irresponsibility, egoism,” according to a Google translation of a French report. London also saw massive protests over the same weekend as Boris Johnson announced a similar vaccine passport in the nation. Coverage of the protests showed people holding signs with slogans “Show your papers, comrades,” a reminder to many of the old Soviet Union’s “internal passports.” Democrats Hide Party’s Racist Roots Democrat leaders claim “the GOP wants to white- wash American history” by barring critical race theory from schools, but they refuse to acknowledge their party “did more than any other institution in American life to preserve” slavery and “enforce Jim Crow,” observes RealClearInvestigations’ Mark Hemmingway. -

This book is dedicated to him and his trainer, Wilson Pitts. It is a compilation of all that I have learned throughout my eighteen years of boxing training combined along with techniques from both men. Wilson not only taught and trained Peter Hobbie, but also the boxing pride of Richmond, Virginia, Carl “Piggy” Hutchins. Wilson lived in Philadelphia and studied boxing at Joe Frazier’s gym in the 1970s. It was there that he learned and embraced the techniques of the legendary trainer Eddie Futch. By watching and eventually being accepted as a student of the sweet science by trainers such as George Benton, he was able to learn boxing tactics and knowledge that are unfortunately becoming harder to find as time passes. -

Now Frazier and Yank Durham, his trainer-manager are trying desperately to get a return fight with George Foreman, who stopped Joe in two rounds at Kingston, Jamaica, on January 22. A Foreman-Frazier fight is one of the very few major attractions open for competition among the leading pro moters, all of whom are based in the United States. Efforts are being made in England to pull Joe Bugmer and Danny McAlinden into the Big Fight ranks but the impression exists in well informed circles that neither qualifies. Putting together the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, which were scattered to the winds by the Foreman victory over Frazier and the Ken Norton defeat of Ali, is a task which has eligible promoters stymied. Heavyweight champion George Foreman gets warm welcome from students at E. 0. When he was still a baby the family moved to Flatbush, a slightly upmarket district which he recalled as being “A nice neighborhood, we had a nice home”. In those days Brooklyn was not the ghetto which later produced world champions Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe, and Mark Breland. Nevertheless growing up in New York in the 1930’s and 40’s brought its own difficulties and the young Giardello ran with street gangs and got involved in fights. He was always independent and, like so many of the war generation, grew up before his time. By the second half of 1945, World War II was officially over, but there was still plenty of mopping up to be done. -

PRESENTS CANCELED!By Don Stradley t’s about time to comment on the cancelation of the Gennady Golvkin - Saul Alvarez rematch, a bout that fell through when Alvarez, having failed two tests for the banned substance clenbuterol, decided to make different plans for Cinco De Mayo. Regrettably for Alvarez, he can pass hair follicle tests until he looks like Bennie Briscoe, but the company line that his initial results came from eat- I ing tainted Mexican beef will probably be questioned for the rest of his career.
