DAPHNE WOO: HARNESSING COLOUR FROM NATURE - PART 1 & 2 Daphne Woo is the natural dye artist and slow fashion advocate behind AMACATA. After graduating from Kawantlen Polytechnic University with a Fashion Design & Technology Diploma in 1995, her experience includes working as a garment developer and bringing her concepts into commercial reality for an international sportswear brand. Amid more than 20 years in the apparel industry, Daphne steadily grew weary of contributing to mass consumerism, and in August 2016 she made the leap out of the corporate apparel world. The emergence of art to carry out this task speaks volumes to Daphne, in strong partnership with (re)connection to nature and reconnecting to oneself. As David Suzuki once said, “Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it. See page 6 | ARTS & CULTURE |

MARLEE LIEVRE: PRINTMAKING INTRO TO LINO PRINTING I believe that printmaking such as lithography and etching is becoming more and more of a lost art. I want to show the beauty it has to offer and share my knowledge to invoke creativity in others.” Marlee Lievre is originally from Ontario. She attended Beal Art Secondary School and then Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. See page 8

RICHARD KEMICK: CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP Richard Kelly Kemick is an award-winning poet, journalist, and fiction writer. His new non-fiction book, “I am Herod” takes readers backstage and undercover at one of the world’s largest theatrical events. He is also the author of “Caribou Run”, a collection of poetry. He is the recipient of multiple awards including two National Magazine gold medals and a 2019 Writers’ Guild of Alberta Award. See page 9
