Media, Jokowi-Ma’ruf Previously, Yusril was a lawyer for Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) which later became a banned organization in Indonesia. In addition, Yusril was previously known as a critic of Jokowi and an active defender of Prabowo along with the party he leads, the Crescent Star Party (PBB). The focus of this research is to explore three mass media that are well known to the general public: Sindonews.com, Kompas.com, and Republika.co.id to see how the mass media dared to frame the coverage of Yusril Ihza Mahendra’s decision to become Jokowi-Ma’ruf’s campaign team. By using a qualitative research methodology, this study also uses Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis to see the framing. This is done in order to penetrate the reporting frame made by the three brave mass media. The findings of this study indicate that the three media have different attitudes. Sindonews.com showed Yusril’s choice neutrally with all parties involved. Meanwhile, Kompas.com seems to be more inclined to side with the Jokowi-Ma’ruf camp with the proportion of the Yusril and the Jokowi-Ma’ruf camp being more. Meanwhile, Republika. co.id appears to be contravening by presenting parties who feel aggrieved by Yusril’s decision to become Jokowi-Ma’ruf’s successful lawyer. A B S T R A K Kata Kunci: Tulisan ini membahas polemik media massa saat Yusril Ihza Mahendra Yusril Ihza Mahendra, menjadi pengacara Jokowi-Ma’ruf pada pemilihan umum presiden 2019. Media, Jokowi-Ma’ruf Sebelumnya, Yusril menjadi pengacara bagi Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) yang kemudian menjadi organisasi terlarang di Indonesia. Selain itu, Yusril sebelumnya juga dikenal sebagai pengkritik Jokowi dan pembela aktif Prabowo bersama partai yang dipimpinnya, Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB). Fokus penelitian ini adalah meneroka tiga media massa daring yang sudah dikenal khalayak umum: Sindonews.com, Kompas.com, dan Republika.co.id untuk melihat bagaimana media massa daring membingkai pemberitaan keputusan Yusril Ihza Mahendra menjadi pengacara tim sukses Jokowi- Ma’ruf. Dengan menggunakan metodologi penelitian kualitatif, penelitian ini juga menggunakan analisis framing Robert N. Entman untuk melihat pembingkaian tersebut. Hal ini dilakukan agar dapat meneroka bingkai pemberitaan yang dilakukan oleh ketiga media massa daring. Sindonews.com menunjukkan secara netral pilihan Yusril dengan menghadirkan semua pihak yang terlibat. Sedangkan Kompas.com terlihat lebih condong berpihak pada kubu Jokowi-Ma’ruf dengan proporsi pihak Yusril dan kubu Jokowi-Ma’ruf lebih banyak. Sementara Republika.co.id terlihat kontra dengan menampilkan pihak-pihak yang merasa dirugikan atas keputusan Yusril menjadi pengacara tim sukses Jokowi-Ma’ruf. There are also no fundamental differences among parties over major policy questions. • The fractured nature of the Indonesian socio-political elite is instead reflected in the proliferation of small parties. This results in the necessity of multi-party coalitions, thus giving Indonesia’s largest party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), a tactical advantage. • The PDIP has floated the possibility of changing the laws to allow President Joko Widodo to stand again in 2024. Perhaps to sustain its leverage in a post-Widodo government, the PDIP is also advocating the revival of the formal Broad Outlines of State Strategy, which featured during the Soeharto era as overarching policy guidelines for each term of government.

It is celebrated in com- memoration of Soekarno’s presentation on 1 June 1954 of Pancasila, the philo- sophical foundation of the unity of the Indonesian state, embodying ideals of its society and citizenry.1 The day, generally, has dignitaries delivering speeches on the state of Indonesia and the nature of Pancasila. Speaking at a meeting at the People’s Constitutive Assembly (mpr) on Pancasila Day 2012, Vice- President Boediono reminded his audience that, for the continued existence of Indonesia as a nation, creating unity in diversity and finding ways to live together harmoniously were crucial. Ethnic and religious differences should not stand in the way of Indonesian unity as exemplified, Boediono suggested, by the friendship of Soekarno – a Muslim – with Catholic priests during his exile in Flores in 1938. Before 1998, the autocratic government fi rmly monitored media content for decades. With the current broadcast liberalization, Indonesian televisions can produce almost any kind of program contents. However, a question arises, who actually controls television content in the era of liberalization? How do political and economic factors infl uence television workers in shaping content? This empirical research intends to focus on the infl uence politicians have on television program content in four elections in post-authoritarian Indonesia. The research question is: how do politicians infl uence television workers in shaping their content? The question needs a qualitative descriptive answer from various sources, including interviews with around 100 television workers in the 10 largest TV stations, participant observations, documents, television reports, and other data sources. Research fi ndings reveal that the relationship between politicians and television intensifi ed ahead and during political campaigns. Most television stations had conducted a relatively fair and nonpartisan coverage of the 2004 and 2009 election, but unfair and partisan in the 1999 and 2014 elections. The 2014 elections have proven most testing. Although it secured second place, the party has since suffered leadership splits. The party may have had numerous splinters and spin-offs in its long history, but recent struggles forced it to hold an Extraordinary National Congress (Musyawarah Nasional Luar Biasa/Munaslub) in May 2016. In short, Golkar has failed to regenerate its top ranks since the departure of Suharto. This problem has culminated in the election of former House Speaker Setya Novanto as party chairman. Novanto is one of Indonesia’s most controversial politicians who has eluded various allegations of involvement in high-profile corruption cases. Since the beginning of the decentralization process in 2001, the devolvement of authority from the center to the regions has triggered tremendous changes in various aspects of politics, reaching from issues of local governance to revenue generation and budgeting to the participation of civil society organizations, to name but a few. One area that is undergoing particularly momentous changes on the local level is party politics. The introduction of new electoral laws for legislative elections, for example, has had a profound impact on patterns of voting behavior in 2004, significantly altering the party landscapes in many provincial and district parliaments. Setiap lima tahun, kita disuguhkan dengan sorak-sorai demokrasi bernama pemilihan umum (pemilu). Tokoh- tokoh serta partai politik berlomba-lomba untuk memenangkan suara rakyat Indonesia. Janji-janji untuk membawa perubahan bertaburan sepanjang masa kampanye, tapi tidak pernah menyasar pada perubahan besar bagi keselamatan rakyat dan lingkungan hidup. Oligarki tambang dan energi berada di kedua kubu calon presiden dan wakil presiden, mereka adalah bagian langsung dari kandidat atau yang menjadi penyandang dana. Ijon Politik merupakan cara yang mereka gunakan dengan cara para oligark mensponsori kebutuhan kampanye para kandidat. Sebagai timbal baliknya, mereka akan diberikan keamanan investasi dan izin untuk mengeksploitasi kekayaan alam, ruang hidup rakyat. Pemilu telah lama dikooptasi untuk kepentingan oligark tanpa memperhitungkan keselamatan rakyat dan keberlangsungan layanan dan fungsi alam. Pemilu begitu penting bagi oligark tambang dan energi dan menjadikan ruang hidup kita sebagai taruhannya. Laporan visual ini dikeluarkan oleh Jaringan Advokasi Tambang (JATAM) untuk disebarluaskan dan dijadikan pedoman politik oleh rakyat yang berada di garis depan berhadapan dengan krisis akibat tambang dan energi.
