Working in teams of 8, the students had to imagine a new product or service, write a business plan to produce, finance, market and sell their product and then launch the idea in a pitch to the judges on the final day. Five successful business people judged the quality of each team's business strategy. The Judges included AGGS old-girls Vaitaua Mauala, Marie Holo and Kahurangi parent, Cushla Lulu. JUNIOR STEM CAREER DAY 2020 On Wednesday November 25th, AGGS held its annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Careers Expo in the Study Hall and Jubilee Library. All of our Year 9 and 10 students had the opportunity to visit the expo during the day. We had displays from the University of Auckland, AUT, Unitec, MIT, Waikato University, Massey University, Victoria University, ESR, The Electrical Training Company, Building and Construction Apprenticeships Training Organisation, and KiaOra Hauora.

Many of the displays were interactive: the girls were able to view a VR model of a cell, watch a superconductor being made, control robot balls, listen to each other’s heartbeats, analyse forensic evidence and do some computer programming. One of the highlights was the opportunity for students to walk through Bella the inflatable bowel to learn about the importance of bowel screening. Comments from the girls included: ‘”Taught me to aim high for the future”. ‘”It has given me more confidence”. “The people on the stands are so passionate.’” “Very informative.” “Given me ideas about what I can do in the future.”
