4. THE MCFADDEN-MORAN COLLECTION MICROFORMS

The McFadden-Moran Collection of Irish studies microfilms are located in the Silent Reading Room at Doherty library. The collection contains a variety of primary source materials:

• British in Ireland: Castle Records covers anti-governmental organizations and the British-Irish struggle for home rule from circa 1880 to 1921. It includes police reports, monthly RIC reports, judicial proceedings, and surveillance information on Sinn Fein and Republican suspects.

• Ireland: Politics and Society through the Press, 1760-1922 includes the newspapers the (founded by Constitutional Nationalist and parliamentary leader of the Irish Party, Charles S Parnell), Limerick Reporter and Tipperary Vindicator, Galway Vindicator, Clare Journal and Ennis Advertiser and Freeman’s Journal. This newspaper collection continues to grow so click here for more holdings information.

• The Irish-American newspaper the Irish World, and American Industrial Liberator (1870-1952)

• GRAIL, the Galway Resource for Anglo-Irish Literature. This fiche collection developed by the University College Galway and the National Library of Ireland, reproduces 500 works by 80 Anglo-Irish 19th century writers. Click here to view the titles in the collection.

Irish History Online http://www.irishhistoryonline.ie/ Irish History Online is an authoritative guide (in progress) to what has been written about Irish history from earliest times to the present. It has been established in association with the Royal Historical Society Bibliography of British and Irish History (of which it is now the Irish component). IHO contains over 59,000 items, drawn from Writings on Irish History from 1936 to 2002, plus all the Irish material currently held on the online Royal Historical Society Bibliography.
