She replaces Joshua Johnson, who left the show last December to join MSNBC as a television 1A / NPR WAMU anchor. Her first day as host is Monday, July 6. With a name that nods to the First Amendment, 1A is a daily, live show that encourages listeners to “speak freely” and stay connected in an increasingly disconnected world. The program provides a platform for Americans of all stripes to come to the table, talk and — most importantly — be listened to, not just heard. “I am excited to build on my love of the news by joining 1A as host, to moderate conversations around the most important issues of our time,” said Jenn White. “1A is a show by, and for our listeners, and I can’t wait to talk to them about the most salient topics facing our country, to find solutions and hold those in Jason Marck / WBEZ Marck Jason power accountable.” THE PULSE It’s About Time Tuesday, July 21 at 10pm The pandemic has warped and stretched time in strange ways, and this week, The Pulse travels back to its episode on time. In many ways, time is a human construct. Humans have chosen ways to measure it, to parse it out, to track it. But time is also an experience that can vary wildly from one moment to the next — the minutes that stretch endlessly, the hours that fly by. This episode explores time — how it is measured, how it is experienced, and how it Intelligence Squared Intelligence bends and warps in the human mind. 3 Missed the latest NPR hourly newscast? The music world has suffered a loss of concert opportunities, including the 2020 season of ChamberFest Cleveland. That being said, there is still hope for summer concerts thanks to a collaboration Chamberfest Cleveland between ChamberFest and WCLV 104.9. The collaboration will present an on-air series of broadcasts featuring highlights from ChamberFest concerts from 2012 through 2019. The fascinating selection of eclectic programs and first-rate performances will feature violinist/violist Yura Lee, pianists Roman Rabinovich and Orion Weiss and more. The ChamberFest co-founders, Diana Cohen and Franklin Cohen, will also make an appearance. Chamberfest Cleveland Be sure to enjoy these programs this July! LUNCHTIME WITH THE CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA Weekdays at 12pm Like so many performing arts organizations, The Cleveland Orchestra has had to cancel not only the last few months of its 2019–2020 season, but also this year’s Blossom Music Festival.

00:00:00 Music Music Gentle, trilling music with a steady drumbeat plays under the dialogue. 00:00:02 Promo Promo Speaker: Bullseye with Jesse Thorn is a production of MaximumFun.org and is distributed by NPR. 00:00:12 Jesse Thorn Host I’m Jesse Thorn. It’s Bullseye. 00:00:15 Music Music “Huddle Formation” from the album Thunder, Lightning, Strike by The Go! Team. A fast, upbeat, peppy song. Music plays as Jesse speaks, then fades out. 00:00:22 Jesse Host Joe Pera Talks With You is a small, quiet show. In fact, it might be the smallest, quietest show on television. It is also, frankly, I think my favorite show on television. The conceit is pretty straightforward. It basically couldn’t be any more plain. Joe Pera, who’s the host, plays a version of himself. In real life, he’s a stand-up comedian. In the show, he teaches middle school choir. He basically guides you through his life, in the city of Marquette, Michigan. He talks about iron and breakfast and there’s one where he talks about the rat wars of Alberta, Canada. Long story. And then while he talks with you about those things, he lives his life. He visits his nana. He teaches choir. He goes on a date with the band teacher. It is a deeply sweet show. The stakes are never life and death, there aren’t any fights, and it’s funny, but there are very few jokes. Anyway, I truly love Joe Pera Talks With You, and I’m so thrilled to have him on Bullseye.

  • 10 That Changed America
10 That Changed America Episode Guide 10 Buildings That Changed America Explore 10 trend-setting works of architecture that have shaped and inspired the American landscape. These aren’t just historic structures by famous architects – they’re buildings with global influence that have dramatically changed the way people live, work, and play. Hosted by Geoffrey Baer, the program features striking videography, rare archival images, distinctive animation, and interviews with some of the most insightful historians and architects (including Frank Gehry and Robert Venturi). This is a journey that will take viewers inside these groundbreaking works of art and engineering. It is also a journey back in time, to discover the shocking, funny, and even sad stories of how these buildings came to be. And ultimately, it is a journey inside the imaginations of ten daring architects who set out to change the way we live, work, worship, learn, shop, and play. Buildings profiled include Frank Gehry’s Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, a Prairie-style home by Frank Lloyd Wright, Henry Ford’s first Model T factory, Dulles International Airport, and the Trinity Church in Boston designed by H.H. Richardson. 10 Homes That Changed America He was a successful lawyer, a violinist, the father of American archaeology, author of the Declaration of Independence, President of the United States, and a self-taught architect, who helped established his new nation’s sense of style. Thomas Jefferson’s designs for the Virginia State Capitol and the University of Virginia became models for statehouses and college campuses across the country. But it was his own home – inspired by classical temples, and elevated on an idyllic hilltop in Virginia – that Jefferson called his “essay in architecture.” Monticello was more than just an architectural statement; it was also a political one.
