It showcases the work carried out by the Planning Service and demonstrates how development and growth can help to contribute positively to the borough. One important consideration that underpins this AMR is the Covid-19 pandemic and future AMRs will need to monitor its long-term impacts and the borough’s subsequent recovery. The statements below summarise the key facts and findings from each chapter. 2 Housing During 2019-20 1,246 net new homes have been completed (plus 120 long term vacant units have been returned back into use) and 1,347 net new homes have been approved. The 1,366 net homes completed is 19 homes short of the London Plan target of 1,385 units per year. As a result of good delivery performance, Lewisham has met the latest Housing Delivery Test. Affordable Housing 265 affordable homes were completed and 431 were approved during 2019-20. Cumulatively since 2005-06, 4,758 affordable homes have been delivered. The completed sites were granted consent some time ago and predate the current definition of genuinely affordable housing, as defined by the Corporate Strategy 2018-2022. Financial viability, other site considerations and sites determined through appeal or prior approval consents can also impact on the amount of affordable housing being provided on-site. The Council is working with registered providers, developers and local communities to enhance the existing stock of affordable housing across the Borough. Where the Council has been directly, or indirectly, delivering sites, up to 100% affordable housing schemes are being delivered. Further details on the delivery of affordable housing can be found in section 2.4. 5 Affordable housing projects The Council is working with Lewisham Homes to deliver a range of affordable housing developments and is working with Local Community Design & Communications Champions to re-design the former Ladywell Leisure Centre site. The Council continues to implement Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) on three sites at Edward Street, Mayfield and Home Park. The Council has approved a Housing Strategy for 2020-26 and a Homelessness & Rough Sleeping Strategy for 2020-22. The Council has implemented

    Historical and contemporary archaeologies of social housing: changing experiences of the modern and new, 1870 to present Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Leicester by Emma Dwyer School of Archaeology and Ancient History University of Leicester 2014 Thesis abstract: Historical and contemporary archaeologies of social housing: changing experiences of the modern and new, 1870 to present Emma Dwyer This thesis has used building recording techniques, documentary research and oral history testimonies to explore how concepts of the modern and new between the 1870s and 1930s shaped the urban built environment, through the study of a particular kind of infrastructure that was developed to meet the needs of expanding cities at this time – social (or municipal) housing – and how social housing was perceived and experienced as a new kind of built environment, by planners, architects, local government and residents. This thesis also addressed how the concepts and priorities of the Victorian and Edwardian periods, and the decisions made by those in authority regarding the form of social housing, continue to shape the urban built environment and impact on the lived experience of social housing today. In order to address this, two research questions were devised: How can changing attitudes and responses to the nature of modern life between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries be seen in the built environment, specifically in the form and use of social housing? Can contradictions between these earlier notions of the modern and new, and our own be seen in the responses of official authority and residents to the built environment? The research questions were applied to three case study areas, three housing estates constructed between 1910 and 1932 in Birmingham, London and Liverpool.

BOROUGH WIDE ANALYSIS 3 BOROUGH WIDE ANALYSIS 3.1 TOPOGRAPHY 3.1.1 The topography of Lewisham has played a vital role in influencing the way in which the borough has developed. 3.1.2 The natural topography is principally defined by the valley of the Ravensbourne and Quaggy rivers which run north to south through the centre and join at Lewisham before flowing northwards to meet the Thames at Deptford. The north is characterised by the flat floodplain of the River Thames. 3.1.3 The topography rises on the eastern and western sides, the higher ground forming an essential Gently rising topography part of the borough's character. The highest point to the southwest of the borough is at Forest Hill (105m). The highest point to the southeast is Grove Park Cemetery (55m). Blackheath (45m) and Telegraph Hill (45m) are the highest points to the north. 3.1.4 The dramatic topography allows for elevated views from within the borough to both the city centre and its more rural hinterland. High points offer panoramas towards the city 42 Fig 18 Topography 2m 85m LEWISHAM CHARACTERISATION STUDY December 2018 43 3.2 GEOLOGY 3.2.1 The majority of the borough is underlain by the Thames Group rock type which consists mostly of the London Clay Formation. 3.2.2 To the north, the solid geology is Upper Chalk overlain by Thanet Sand. The overlying drift geology is gravel and alluvium. The alluvium has been deposited by the tidal flooding of the Thames and the River Ravensbourne. River deposits are also characteristic along the Ravensbourne.

A general management plan takes a long-range view and provides a framework for proactive decision making about visitor use, managing the natural and cultural resources at the site, developing the site, and addressing future opportunities and problems. This is the first NPS comprehensive management plan prepared f or the national historic site. As required, this general management plan presents to the public a range of alternatives for managing the site, including a preferred alternative; the management plan also analyzes and presents the resource and socioeconomic impacts or consequences of implementing each of those alternatives the “Environmental Consequences” section of this document. All alternatives propose new interpretive exhibits. Alternative 1, a “no-action” alternative, presents what would happen under a continuation of current management trends and provides a basis for comparing the other alternatives. Al t e r n a t i v e 2 , the preferred alternative, expands interpretation of the house and the life of Bethune, and the archives. It recommends the purchase and rehabilitation of an adjacent row house to provide space for orientation, restrooms, and offices. Moving visitor orientation to an adjacent building would provide additional visitor services while slightly decreasing the impacts of visitors on the historic structure.
