A partnership between Sport Whanganui and the Local To find out more visit their website:-http:// and Loyal app has since been formed to ensure our sports www.futurechampionstrust.org community has access to this platform to promote relevant sports information and events locally. We understand that many of our sports are run by volunteers who give their time and energy to ensure sport happens in our community. However, for any partnership to work, communication is the key, so we need sports organisations to let us know how we can best meet their individual needs and help us keep key contacts and important sports information up to date. Sport Whanganui hopes that the introduction of this local App will encourage sports to share their details more so that we promote and strengthen our sports community. We understand that there are a number of apps that have already been developed for different codes, but the costs of creating your own app is often beyond what most sports can afford. Through this partnership, Sport Whanganui is providing the opportunity to have use of an app through the local and loyal platform at no cost to our sports community. No longer will you have to download multiple apps or visit the various websites to source the information you require. Instead, by having all sports under this Local and Loyal brand families and schools who are involved with multiple sports can access all their local sports information through this one app. Sports draws, cancellation notifications, events and sports contacts can literally be in the palm of your hand. If you would like to know more about the app or how your sports organisation can be part of it then please contact: Jodie Brunger – [email protected] The second annual Whanganui regional Inter-School Mountain Bike Championships took place at Pauri Lake on Friday 24th June, attracting school children from Whanganui and its surrounding regions, and even a few from Palmerston North. Wanganui Mountain Bike Club and Sport Whanganui teamed up to run the event, which is aimed at getting Year 6 - 13 school children on bikes and giving them the chance to represent their schools in a competitive yet non-threatening environment. Sport Whanganui’s Regional Bike Development Officer Cherie Prince coordinated the event and thinks the Championships might be viewed as a stepping stone leading to potential future opportunities. “These Champs might be the first chance some children have had to take part and compete in a regional mountain biking event, and so it’s about helping give young people more confidence both in terms of their mountain biking skills and also potentially to go on and compete at higher levels,” Cherie says. This year, for the first time, the Championships were open to Year 6 school children (previously Year 7-13), meaning the event grew from last year. Organisers hope the event will continue to grow. To learn more about the Whanganui Regional Inter-School Mountain Bike Championships, or to discuss or find out more about biking in our region, contact Cherie Prince on (06) 349 2882 or email [email protected].
