On Trochoidea Geyeri (Soos, 1926) and Some Conchologically Similar Taxa (Mollusca: Gastropoda Pulmonata: Hygromiidae)
On Trochoidea geyeri (Soos, 1926) and some conchologically similar taxa (Mollusca: Gastropoda Pulmonata: Hygromiidae) E. Gittenberger Gittenberger, E. On Trochoidea geyeri (Sods, 1926) and some conchologically similar taxa (Mollusca: Gastropoda Pulmonata: Hygromiidae). Zool. Med. Leiden 67 (19), 30.vii.1993:303-320, figs. 1-29.— ISSN 0024-0672. Key words: Hygromiidae; taxonomy; synonymy; Trochoidea geyeri; France; Spain. To provide background information for a proposal to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature to suppress five subjective senior synonyms of Trochoidea geyeri, the synonymies of this and some other hygromiid species are given. The nominal taxa that are dealt with concern species that are conchologically more or less similar. These species were studied to minimize the risk that even more unused senior synonyms of T. geyeri would be discovered, which would require an additional ruling of the Commission. Distributional data and short conchological diagnoses are added to increase the usefulness of the present paper. E. Gittenberger, Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, Postbus 9517, NL-2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands. Introduction Trochoidea geyeri (Soos, 1926) has frequently been confused with conchologically similar species. Its name, however, is well known. It remained unchallenged since the original description. Therefore, it was rather surprising to discover six senior synonyms, all but one of which available names that remained unused after their introduction. In line with ICZN Article 23 (b), this case is referred to the Commission for a ruling, to conserve the usage of the seventh name (case no. 2870: Gittenberger, in press). In the first part of the present paper, the nominal taxa are listed that apply to T. -

The Continental Molluscs from Mount Circeo (Latium, Italy)
Biodiversity Journal, 2014, 5 (2): 151–164 MONOGRAPH The continental molluscs from Mount Circeo (Latium, Italy) Alessandro Hallgass1 & Angelo Vannozzi2 1Via della Divina Provvidenza 16, 00166 Roma, Italy; e-mail: [email protected] 2Via Pietro de Cristofaro 46, 00136 Roma, Italy; e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper is the second step in a process that aims to asses biodiversity of land and freshwater molluscs fauna of Mount Circeo (Latium, Italy). Forty species of land and freshwater molluscs are listed, three more than in the previous work. A species of Oxychilus Fitzinger, 1833 and two species of Limax Linnaeus, 1758 remain undetermined, to date. The presence of Pleu- rodiscus balmei balmei (Potiez et Michaud, 1838) and Siciliaria gibbula honii (O. Boettger, 1879) are confirmed and this is the known northern limit of their distribution areas in Italy. Moreover, the presence of some species of biogeographical interest has allowed us to formulate some hypotheses on the origin of this fauna, in the light of the most recent theories on the formation of the Italian peninsula. Helicoidea (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) Snails from Northern Greece
© Sociedad Española de Malacología Iberus, 15 (2): 25-34, 1997 Phenological patterns and life history tactics of Helicoidea (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) snails from Northern Greece Patrones fenológicos y estrategias de vida en Helicoidea (Gastropoda, Pulmonata) del Norte de Grecia Maria LAZARIDOU-DIMITRIADOU and Stefanos SGARDELIS* Recibido el 8-I-1996. Aceptado el 31-VII-1996 ABSTRACT The present study mainly concerns with the differences in the biological cycles and strategies adopted by different Helicoidea snail species. In Northern Greece the climatic conditions are not very uniform. Some snails breed during the same period as in Northern Europe but most breed in autumn, as species from Southern Europe do. Breeding may take place in all sea- sons except in winter, and seems to be species-specific. Long-lived snails of big size differ from short-lived species of small size as to the time of their breeding period. The climatic con- ditions affect the time of the breeding season and their whole life cycle and phenologies. En- vironmental variables in Northern Greece are strongly seasonal and thus Helicoidea snails exhibit predictable oscillations in their activity patterns, which can be interpreted by the de- mographic response of the populations. Terrestrial snails seem to follow two different pheno- logic curve types: the semelparous and short-lived species populations show a more stable phenological pattern than the biennial and pluriennial ones, who mature after the first year of their lives, being more plastic trying to face the climatic differences from one year to another.
