YOUNG FRIENDS Florian Trübsbach – Alto and soprano saxophone Born in 1976, Florian started to learn the violin at age 3, later sang with the Tölzer Boys Choir where he sang as soloist under the likes of Karajan, Abbado and Maazel. After his voice broke, he took up saxophone. He studied jazz, but also classical composition for 5 semesters, including lessons from Hans Werner Henze. The former member of the National Youth Orchestra and National Jazz Orchestra received the Bavarian state prize for young artists in 2000. Under his own name he has released the album “& ” Axel Schlosser – Trumpet, Flügelhorn Born in 1976, Axel was at age 17 a member of the National Jazz Orchestra and studied at the Heidelberg Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. In 2000 and 2001 he was lead trumpet in the German-French Jazz Ensemble under Albert Mangelsdorff. The award-winning Schlosser, presently solo trumpet with the HR Big Band, already has a wide-ranging discography, including recordings with Rainer Tempel, Max Greger Jr, the Sultans of Swing, the Sunday Night Orchestra and No Angels. In 2005 his quartet album “the ”will be released. Johannes Lauer – Trombone Born in 1982, Johannes studied jazz trombone at the UdK, Berlin and is currently taking advantage of an Erasmus Scholarship in Lucerne. The recipient of several national prizes at “ ” he was a member of the National Jazz Orchestra for 4 years, and has performed with Sunday Night Orchestra, the Summit Jazz Orchestra, RIAS Big Band, Jasper van´t Hof, Eric Vloeimans and Tony Lakatos. He founded his own quintet in 2004, being invited to a festival in South Korea. In the same year UNESCO asked him to take part in the “ Day of ” in Paris. Michael Wollny – Piano Born in 1978, Michael was already at 15 a student at Würzburg Conservatoire. After national civil service, he took up full-time studies there. One of his theses was an analysis of the work of pianist Joachim Kühn. Wollny was a member of the National Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer. In the Jazz Ensemble of the Hessischer Rundfunk he got to know saxophonist Heinz Sauer and later strengthened his group. With him he recorded the now renowned duo album “”for ACT, following it with a tour. With the trio [em] Wollny/ Kruse/ Schaefer and the album “It ” (ACT) Wollny has created a stir and is one of the most talked-about piano talents of recent years. Eva Kruse – Bass Born in 1978, Eva spent 11 years learning classical piano and in 1998 took up jazz double bass studies at the UdK in Berlin. She was a member of the National Jazz Orchestra for three years, toured with the April Light Orchestra and the Tied & Tickled Trio from Weilheim. She is presently a member of the Arne Jansen Trio, the quartet “”and the trio [em] Wollny/ Kruse/ Schaefer, where ’not just known for her low tones but also for her inspired compositions. Eric Schaefer – Drums, Percussion Born in 1976, Eric studied contemporary music with Christoph Caskl and improvised music with David Friedman and Jerry Granelli. Additonally he has studied composition with James Knapp and Maria Schneider. Schaefer has worked with Carlos Bica, Gebhard Ullmann, Axel Doerner, Peter Weniger und the poet Wolf Wondratschek. Most of all he has brought his imposing rhythmic style, which he shows to full effect in [em] Wollny/ Kruse/ Schaefer and in the trio of pianist Carsten Daerr.
