Seminar for Senior Staff at “The Retreat” The highlight of the seminar was the Table Top Drill con- ducted by Mr. G. Skoglund of the Norwegian Hull Club. Madh Island, Mumbai, April 2001 The M.V. “Spar Exercise” was the name of the imaginary vessel which collides with an out bound vessel while in- bound to the port of San Francisco with Pilot onboard. With the help of walkie talkies, telephones and audio visual ef- fects, Mr. Skoglund made the entire drill extremely realis- tic. Mr. Skoglund will also attend our next Seminar on the 4th and 5th of October 2001.

Our last Seminar for Senior staff was held on 26th and 27th April 2001 at “The Retreat” - Madh island , Mumbai. It was indeed a pleasure to meet with more than 60 of our floating staff. The occasion was also graced by representa- tives from Santana Maritime Services, Spar Shipping AS and Vroon B.V. The “Bridge” of the M.V. Spar Exercise VOLUME 1, ISSUE 2 FLEET NEWS PAGE 3

Mumbai Office Grows To cope with our growing fleet size and provide better service to our floating staff, we have more than doubled the office

space at our Nariman Point Office in April of this year. This was achieved by taking over the adjacent office and combining the existing office and the new space into one large functional office space.

Stenciling and Marking Proper stenciling and marking is the key to safe shipboard op- erations. It also plays an important part in improving the pre- sentability of the vessel to outsiders such as Port State Control Inspectors, Oil Majors, Charterers etc.

We have prepared booklets on “Suggested Stencilling” for Container Vessels and Tankers and these are being sent out to our vessels.

M.T.Chembulk Shangai

We intend to prepare a similar booklet for all our ship types and place a copy onboard each of our vessels to guide our ship’s staff in making their vessels more present- able.

We look forward to your comments and suggestions along with photographs of any new ideas that you may have so that we can implement it across our fleet.

Due credit will be given for all contributions. M. V. Parvat

The Kochi Office The southern Indian state of Kerala has a large number of qualified and well trained sea- farers. The Kochi office was established to tap this pool and has provided a steady stream of officers and ratings to meet our growing need of floating staff. Engineer officers make up the majority of the staff recruited from this office. The office is headed by Mr. M. C. Haridas and he is assisted by Ms. Fixe Philip and Mr. Titus Joseph.
