Roza and Prof. Dr. F. Mehring Title of document: It’s Not a Fashion Statement. An exploration of Masculinity and Femininity in Contemporary Emo Music. Name of course: MA Thesis North American Studies Date of submission: 15 August 2018 The work submitted here is the sole responsibility of the undersigned, who has neither committed plagiarism nor colluded in its production. Signed Name of student: Claudia Gielis Gielis /3 Abstract Masculinity and femininity can be performed in many ways. The emo genre explores a variety of ways in which gender can be performed. Theories on gender, masculinity and femininity will be used to analyze both the lyrics and the music videos of these two bands, indicating how they perform gender lyrically and visually. Likewise a short introduction on emo music will be given, to gain a better understanding of the genre and the subculture. It will become clear that the emo subculture allows for men and women to explore their own identity. This is reflected in the music associated to the emo genre as well as their visual representation in their music videos. This essay will explore how both a male fronted band, My Chemical Romance, and a female fronted band, Paramore, perform gender. All studio albums and official music videos will be used to investigate how they have performed gender throughout their career. -

Architecturalacoustics: The forgottendimension. Ewart A. Wetherill (Wilson, lhrig, and Associates, lnc., 5776 Broadway,Oakland, CA 94618) The basic considerationsof architeclural acouslics---isolation from unwanled noise and vibration, control of mechanicalsystem noise, and room acousticsdesign---are all clearly exemplifiedin Sabinc'sdesign for BostonSymphony Hall. Openedin ! 900,this hall isone of theoutstanding successes in musical acoustics. Yet, aswe approachthe hundredthanniversary of Sabine'sfirst experiments, acoustical characteristics remain one of the leastconsidered aspects of buildingdesign. This is due, in part, to the difficultyof visualizingthe acouslicaloutcome of designdecisions, complicated by individualjudgment as to whatconstitutes good acous- tics. However, the lack of a comprehensiveteaching program remains the dominantproblem. Significant advancesover the past 2 or 3 decadesin measurementand evaluationhave refinedthe ability to design predictabilityand to demonsIrateacoustical concerns to others. New techniquessuch as sound intensity measurements, new descriptors for roomacoustics phenomena, and the refinemen t of recording, analysis, and amplificationtechniques provide fresh insights into the behaviorof soundin air and other media. These topics are reviewedwith particularemphasis on the needfor a comparableadvance in translationof acousticprinci- plesinto buildingtechnologies. 156 a Half-Century's Perspective on Békésy
A HALF-CENTURY’S PERSPECTIVE ON BÉKÉSY TRACKING AND LOUDNESS GROWTH AT THRESHOLD 1 1,2 Elizabeth Rooney and Mary Florentine Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology 1 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering 2 Northeastern University (106-A FR), 360 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 USA [email protected] and [email protected] Abstract In the more than half a century since Georg von Békésy was awarded the Nobel Prize, many of his findings have stood the test of time. Implications of the width of the excursions in the Békésy tracking procedure, however, are not as simple as described in his classic book, Experiments in Hearing (von Békésy, 1960). The interpretations of his findings have created some misunderstandings in hearing science and audiology. This article reviews a large body of data on Békésy tracking and more recent threshold, discrimination, and loudness data in order to answer the following question: Is the width of the excursions a reliable indicator of cochlear pathology? In 1947, von Békésy described a new audiometer and claimed that this new audiometer permitted the testing of recruitment. Recruitment has been defined as a rapid growth in loudness above the threshold of hearing (Fowler,1936; Steinberg and Gardner, 1937; Brunt, 1994) and was believed to be associated with all cochlear hearing losses (Dix, Hallpike, and Hood, 1948). The audiometer was automated. As the frequency of the signal increased slowly, the subject pressed a button when the signal was audible and released it when inaudible. This pressing and releasing of the button caused the level of the signal to decrease or increase, respectively, and a visible tracing of the excursions (or trackings) between the just-audible and just-inaudible pulsed tones could be observed on recording paper that was attached to a rotating drum. -

paramore after laughter full album download MQS Albums Download. Mastering Quality Sound,Hi-Res Audio Download, 高解析音樂, 高音質の音楽. Paramore – After Laughter (2017) [HDTracks FLAC 24bit/96kHz] Paramore – After Laughter (2017) FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96kHz | Time – 42:38 minutes | 909 MB | Genre: Rock Studio Masters, Official Digital Download – Source: HDTracks | Front Cover | © Fueled by Ramen. After Laughter is the fifth studio album by American rock band Paramore. After Laughter represents a departure from the usual punk pop and alternative rock sound of their previous releases. The album touches on themes of exhaustion, depression and anxiety, contrasting the upbeat and vibrant sound of the record. Upon release, After Laughter received critical acclaim from music critics, who praised the band’s new sonic direction and the 1980’s new wave and synth-pop sound on the album. We know, we know, Paramore isn’t just Hayley Williams. Paramore is a band. But when every roiling, addictive album is directly fueled by the discord of yet another lineup change, you start to wonder: Should the hole left by the most recently departing bandmate be considered an official member of the band? It’s a thought you can’t help but mull over listening to Paramore’s crackling fifth full-length album, 2017’s After Laughter. The lineup this time features Williams, guitarist Taylor York (a member since their 2007 sophomore effort Riot!) and original drummer Zac Farro, returning after an estrangement since 2010. Notably not present here is bassist Jeremy Davis, who left for the second time in a huff of legal disturbances in 2015. -
