  • GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. As performed in principal recordings (or demos) by or with Gram Parsons or, in the case of Gram Parsons compositions, performed by others. Gram often varied, adapted or altered the lyrics to non-Parsons compositions; those listed here are as sung by him. Gram’s birth name was Ingram Cecil Connor III. However, ‘Gram Parsons’ is used throughout this document. Following his father’s suicide, Gram’s mother Avis subsequently married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted. Born Ingram Cecil Connor III, 5th November 1946 - 19th September 1973 and credited as being the founder of modern ‘country-rock’, Gram Parsons was hugely influenced by The Everly Brothers and included a number of their songs in his live and recorded repertoire – most famously ‘Love Hurts’, a truly wonderful rendition with a young Emmylou Harris. He also recorded ‘Brand New Heartache’ and ‘Sleepless Nights’ – also the title of a posthumous album – and very early, in 1967, ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Many would attest that ‘country-rock’ kicked off with The Everly Brothers, and in the late sixties the album Roots was a key and acknowledged influence, but that is not to deny Parsons huge role in developing it. Gram Parsons is best known for his work within the country genre but he also mixed blues, folk, and rock to create what he called “Cosmic American Music”. While he was alive, Gram Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to The Byrds.

  • “Outlaw Pete”: Bruce Springsteen and the Dream-Work of Cosmic American Music
“Outlaw Pete”: Bruce Springsteen and the Dream-Work of Cosmic American Music Peter J. Fields Midwestern State University Abstract During the 2006 Seeger Sessions tour, Springsteen shared his deep identification with the internal struggle implied by old spirituals like “Jacob’s Ladder.” While the Magic album seemed to veer wide of the Seeger Sessions ethos, Working on a Dream re-engages mythically with what Greil Marcus would call “old, weird America” and Gram Parsons deemed “cosmic American music.” Working suggests the universe operates according to “cosmic” principles of justice, judgment, and salvation, but is best understood from the standpoint of what Freud would call “dream work” and “dream thoughts.” As unfolded in Frank Caruso’s illustrations for the picturebook alter ego of Working‘s “Outlaw Pete,” these dynamics may allude to Springsteen’s conflicted relationship with his father. The occasion of the publication in December 2014 of a picturebook version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Outlaw Pete,” the first and longest song on the album Working on a Dream (2009), offers Springsteen scholars and fans alike a good reason to revisit material that, as biographer Peter Ames Carlin remarks, failed in the spring American tour of that year to “light up the arenas.”1 When the Working on a Dream tour opened in April 2009 in San Jose, at least Copyright © Peter Fields, 2016. I want to express my deep gratitude to Irwin Streight who read the 50 page version of this essay over a year ago. He has seen every new draft and provided close readings and valuable feedback. I also want to thank Roxanne Harde and Jonathan Cohen for their steady patience with this project, as well as two reviewers for their comments.

  • NEO-GARAGE Il Rinascimento Garage Degli Anni Ottanta CORSI E RICORSI Un Antefatto
Mappapsyche 6-04-2006 11:48 Pagina 28 MAP MUSIC PAGES Neopsichedelia USA ‘80 NEO-GARAGE Il Rinascimento Garage degli Anni Ottanta CORSI E RICORSI Un antefatto. O, meglio, l’Antefatto. From The First Psychedelic Era (1965-1968).

STORIES A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF ST. GEORGE’S SCHOOL OUR 2016-2017 REPORT CARD BUILDING FINE YOUNG MEN. ONE BOY AT A TIME. ST. GEORGE’S SCHOOL is a strong academic university preparatory institution with selective entrance standards. Offering a Boarding Program for Grades 8 to 12 and a Day Program for Grades 1 to 12, St. George’s is committed to its Mission of building fine young men. The School encourages the pursuit of excellence in all endeavours, and is committed to the healthy growth of body, mind, and spirit. Character development, leadership, and service opportunities are integral to the School’s mission. Here at St. George’s School, this Report Card functions as a comprehensive annual report, detailing a wide range of benchmarks ranging from the accomplishments of our students through to our fundraising success. Produced on an annual basis, it reflects our commitment to continuous school improvement, as well as our desire to keep the St. George’s community well informed and fully engaged. Reflecting on the 2016-17 school year, I am struck by the depth and breadth of what we accomplished. The stellar performance of our boys on a wide range of external tests, including Advanced Placement examinations, speaks for itself. Just as impressive is the fact that our 155 graduates received more than 720 acceptances at 176 different post- secondary institutions, along with close to $2 million in merit-based scholarships. The incredible diversity of these offers attests to the success of our university counselling team in helping each boy find the program and university that are for him the best fit.
