  • Newyddion News Mrs Hart Said: “Currently Healthcare Staff Have to Use Many Different Computer Systems Throughout the Day to Be Able to See the Information They Need
8 January 2010 W-100013Hlth Health Minister gives go ahead to revolutionise NHS’ computer systems Plans to revolutionise the NHS’ computer systems enabling health professionals to access important patient information quickly and securely have been approved by Health Minister Edwina Hart today [8 January 2010]. Backed by £2.5m of Welsh Assembly Government funding, the new system - known as The Welsh Clinical Portal - will give one view of the information held about the patient, making it easier for healthcare staff to provide better care. It will bring together information held in the many hospital computer systems that doctors, nurses, clinicians and pharmacists use on a day-to-day basis. The first phase of the portal, which has been successfully piloted at some hospitals, gives faster secure access to existing information. Healthcare professionals at these sites are now able to request tests and view results electronically. This latest investment comes as part of the Assembly Government’s Informing Healthcare programme which will improve patient care and the working environment for staff. Other systems recently approved as part of this programme include the patient’s website My Health Online announced earlier this week. Newyddion News Mrs Hart said: “Currently healthcare staff have to use many different computer systems throughout the day to be able to see the information they need. This can take a lot of time and may not provide the information that is needed to best treat patients. “The portal will provide healthcare professionals with more information when they are treating their patients, helping to support their decisions and reduce the chance of inappropriate treatment or error.

TV programmes 1. Panorama: The Secret Letters of Pope John Paul II TX: 15/02/2016 Dur: 29'00" Broadcaster: BBC 1 Production Company: Blakeway This film – for the BBC, Arte and PBS - made headlines in newspapers around the world. It was the result of a 4-year investigation by journalist Edward Stourton. He discovered hundreds of letters and photographs that revealed an intense emotional relationship between Pope John Paul 11 and a married woman, Polish born American philosopher, Anna Teresa Tymieniecka, which spanned 30 years (from his time as a Cardinal until his death as Pope). The letters had been acquired for a six figure sum by the Polish National Library, and were then hidden away while the process of securing sainthood for John Paul was in progress. The revelations turned what might have been a history programme into a current affairs investigation. It would seem there was a cover-up. Following a tip-off that the letters existed, it took two years to track them down and another year to gain access to them. It was clear Anna Teresa had fallen in love with John Paul and had declared that love. There is no evidence that the relationship was physical, but the prudent course would have been to end it. John Paul was determined it should continue, and even tried to justify it in religious terms. The letters had been sold to the Polish Library by Anna Teresa after the death of her husband, and Stourton assumed that the archive consisted simply of John Paul’s letters to her.

  • Response to House of Commons DCMS Select Committee Inquiry on the Impact of Covid-19
Response to House of Commons DCMS Select Committee inquiry on the Impact of Covid-19 June 2020 Introduction 1. TAC (Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru) represents the independent television production sector in Wales. Our sector is a highly important element of the creative industries in Wales and the UK overall, providing economic, social and cultural benefits through supplying creative content. There are around 50 companies in the sector, ranging from sole traders to some of the leading players in the UK production industry. They produce content for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky as well as other commercial broadcasters. They produce almost all of the original television and online media content for the Welsh-language broadcaster S4C, and a variety of radio productions for UK-wide networks. 2. In recent years, Wales’ reputation as a centre of first-class drama production has grown significantly with productions such as 15 Days, Un Bore Mercher / Keeping Faith, Bang, Craith / Hidden and Y Gwyll / Hinterland. Our sector also offers a great deal of expertise in genres such as factual documentary, children’s programmes, sport and entertainment. Overseas programme and format sales have increased, and our members are also experienced in international co-productions. Answers to Specific Committee Questions What has been the immediate impact of Covid-19 on the sector? 3. As with all industries, the TV production sector has faced significant challenges due to the impact of Covid-19 and the introduction of necessary social distancing measures. Productions have been cancelled or postponed and a wide range of programme genres have been affected.

Developing a study design that incorporates an analysis of code-switching and mutation in naturalistic speech has demanded a relatively novel methodological approach. The study combined a variationist analysis of the vernacular use of both variables in the 40-hour Siarad corpus (Deuchar 2014) with a technique that ranks radio programmes in order of formality through the use of channel cues and other criteria (Ball et al 1988).
