For Immediate Release IIJ and the NHK Symphony Orchestra to Stream Hi-Res Audio Performances --This technological partnership is the first hi-res streaming of NHKSO concerts, confirming the feasibility of regular streaming services-- TOKYO—April 28, 2017—Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo, (NHKSO) today announced that they are making hi-res recordings of the public performances of “The Meidensha 120th Anniversary | NHKSO Afternoon Classic Series” that are being held in April, May, and June 2017. They will then make these recordings available for on-demand streaming starting on May 19, 2017. This is the first time that performances of the NHKSO—a prominent orchestra in Japan—will be streamed in hi-res audio. IIJ will record three matinee performances at the Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall in hi-res audio, using DSD 5.6 MHz (*1) and PCM 96 kHz / 24 bit (*2) formats. These recordings will be available for free and on demand as programs on IIJ's hi-res streaming service, PrimeSeat (*3). At the same time, IIJ will stream on-demand videos of the concerts for multiple devices, including PCs and smartphones. High-resolution audio formats—including the popular DSD and PCM systems—faithfully reproduce analog sound without compression, allowing listeners to enjoy the immersive, high-quality acoustic experience of a concert hall right in their homes. After evaluating this project's technological partnership for hi-res audio streaming, IIJ and the NHKSO will consider expanding the number of concerts they stream, to deliver even more NHKSO performances in high-quality audio to customers living room.

2020 BIOGRAPHIES Behzod Abduraimov Piano “Abduraimov can do anything. His secret: authenticity, control and a velvet pianissimo.” (NRC Handelsblad). Behzod Abduraimov’s performances combine an immense depth of musicality with phenomenal technique and breath-taking delicacy. He works with leading orchestras worldwide including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra and Münchner Philharmoniker, and prestigious conductors including Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Manfred Honeck, Lorenzo Viotti, Vasily Petrenko, James Gaffigan, Jakub Hrůša and Vladimir Jurowski. Forthcoming European engagements include Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester - including a tour to the Tongyeong International Music Festival under Michael Sanderling - English Chamber Orchestra, and St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra with performances in St Petersburg and Barcelona. David Geringas David Geringas (* 1946 in Litauen) ist ein in Deutschland lebender litauischer Cellist. Künstlerischer Werdegang Von 1963 bis 1973 studierte er am Moskauer Konservatorium Cello bei Mstislav Rostropo- vich. 1970 gewann er den 1. Preis sowie die Goldmedaille des Tschaikovsky-Wettbewerbs. David Geringas hat mit zahlreichen renommierten Klangkörpern musiziert, so mit den Berliner Philharmonikern, den Hamburger Symphonikern, den Bamberger Symphonikern, dem London Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Detroit Symphony Orchestra, dem Philadelphia Orchestra und dem NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokio. Dabei spielte er unter Dirigenten wie Gerd Albrecht, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Semyon Bychkov, Charles Dutoit, Michael Gielen, Ferdinand Leitner, Simon Rattle, Mstislav Rostropovich und Wolfgang Sawallisch. Sein Re- pertoire umfasst Werke vom Barock bis hin zu zeitgenössischen Stücken. David Geringas lehrte von 1977 bis 1986 an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, wurde 1980 zum Professor für Violoncello an die Musikhochschule Lübeck berufen und lehrt in dieser Funktion seit 2001 an der Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin. Januar 1935 in Riga, Lettland) ist ein deutscher Architekt. Leben Meinhard von Gerkan stammt aus einer deutsch-baltischen Familie. Der Vater kam als Soldat im 2. Weltkrieg um, die Mutter starb kurz nach der Flucht aus Posen. Gerkan wuchs als Pfle- gekind in Hamburg auf. Im Jahr 1964 schloss von Gerkan sein Studium der Architektur an der Technischen Hochschule Braunschweig mit dem Diplom ab.

Profile of NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo
NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo The history of the NHK Symphony Orchestra dates back to October 5th, 1926 when a professional orchestra called the New Symphony Orchestra was formed. After being briefly called the Japan Symphony Orchestra, it was renamed the NHK Symphony Orchestra when it began to receive full financial support from Nippon Hoso Kyokai (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in 1951. During those years, the orchestra invited German conductor Joseph Rosenstock as its Chief Conductor, under whose baton the orchestra established the foundation to become Japan’s leading orchestra. Thereafter, the orchestra continually invited many of the world’s most renowned conductors of the time, including Herbert von Karajan, Ernest Ansermet, Joseph Keilberth and Lovro von Matačić, to name but a few, and worked with some of the world’s most celebrated soloists to offer the public innumerable outstanding performances which have become entrenched as part of Japan’s history of classical music. The subscription concerts series, which is the core of its activities, started on February 20th, 1927, and has continued without interruption ever since, even during the Second World War. In recent years, the orchestra has presented approximately 120 concerts nationwide annually, including 54 subscription concerts which have been relayed to every corner of the country on NHK television and through FM radio broadcasts. The concerts can also be heard in Europe, the United States and Asia through its international broadcast service. It has also won world-wide acclaim for its overseas tours, including its first appearance in the Salzburg Festival in August 2013 and successful concerts with Chief Conductor Paavo Järvi in its European tour of 7 major cities including Berlin and Vienna in the spring of 2017.

Born of humble origins and lacking any formal musical training until his adulthood, Sumi nevertheless rose to become one of the most important violin pedagogues of Japan. His non-traditional musical background had a profound effect on the teacher he became and contributed to his tremendous success as a pedagogue. Since most of the existing information on Sumi is written in Japanese, this study is designed to acquaint the Western reader with this amazing pedagogue.
