Chairman Chung received the induction trophy and made a speech on behalf of his father. “Honorary Chairman Chung grew Hyundai Motor group into the world’s fifth largest automaker from its humble beginning. Mong-Koo Chung: Passion and relentless drive for quality Mong-Koo Chung, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, championed the development of the Korean economy and the automotive industry while also growing Hyundai Motor Group into one Hyundai Motor Group 12 Heolleung-ro, Seochogu, T +82 2 3464 2128 www.hyundaimotorgroup.com Seoul, 137-938, Korea of the top five automotive groups globally – achieved in an historically short period of time for the sector. Chung led the acquisition of Kia Corporation and turned it into a profitable company within the first year of acquisition. With his passion for quality and a determination to foster its own R&D capabilities, he created Korea’s first and only automotive group while simultaneously growing the auto parts and materials industries. Honorary Chairman Chung often emphasized that the best quality is a virtue that cannot be compromised. Through his continued focus on quality, Hyundai and Kia vehicles now receive favorable reviews from global quality assessment agencies around the globe. The 10-year, 100,000- mile powertrain warranty implemented in the U.S. market in 1998, one of Chung’s initiatives, laid the foundation for Hyundai to grow into a global powerhouse. Despite concerns over large-scale investment, Chung spearheaded global expansion of the Group’s production capabilities and R&D network. Under his leadership, Group’s production facilities expanded its presence across the world including the U.S., Europe, China, Russia, Brazil and Mexico, creating a system for rapid growth and endurance. A global network of production and R&D gave Hyundai Motor Group a competitive edge that allowed it to survive through numerous global economic crises. He also helped to develop Korea’s materials industry by building an integrated steel mill that maximized synergy across the Group, and created the world's first resource-circulating business structure, presenting a new ideal for sustainable management. Honorary Chairman Chung recognized the potential in hydrogen energy and encouraged the development of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles ahead of other manufacturers, allowing the company to introduce the world’s first mass-production hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle in 2013. His innovative leadership and business philosophy has been recognized and celebrated through various awards over the years, including Korea Management Association’s CEO of the Year Award (1996), Business Week’s Auto CEO of the Year (2004), Automotive News’ Top Automotive CEO in Asia (2005), Van Fleet Award (2009), and inclusion in Harvard Business Review’s ‘CEO 100’. ■ Honorary Chairman Mong-Koo Chung Profile Education Bachelor’s degree in Industry Business Administration, Hanyang University Experience 2020.9 ~ Honorary Chairman, Hyundai Motor Group 2000 ~ 2020 Chairman, Hyundai Motor Group 1999 ~ 2000 CEO & Chairman, Hyundai Motor Co. & Kia Motors Corp. The survey, conducted during 2014, is part of a long-term study of the rapid global expansion of multinational enterprises (MNEs) from emerging markets.1 The research for this report was conducted in 2014 and covers the period from 2011 to 2013.2 Highlights In 2013, the top 20 Korean multinationals, ranked by their foreign assets (See Table 1), jointly held US$68.9 billion assets abroad.3 Most firms were subsidiaries of Korea’s eight leading business groups (or chaebols), including Samsung, POSCO, LG, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai-Kia Motors, SK, Lotte, and Hyosung Group. Five out of the 20 multinationals were also included in UNCTAD’s “Top 100 non-financial TNCs from developing and transition economies” in 2012.4 The average age of the top 20 firms is about 47 years, which is two times the average age of Korea’s top 1,000 firms (ranked in terms of total assets). There is a high concentration by the top players in the list in terms of foreign assets. Among the top 20 companies, Samsung Electronics, POSCO, and Hyundai Motor Company ranked in the top three in that order. There was a significant difference between first and second place, with the foreign assets of Samsung Electronics more than doubling that of POSCO.

  • Jeep 2.5 Firing Order You Can Adjust Ignition Timing on Your Jeep Wrangler by Rotating the Distributor a Few Degrees
Jeep 2.5 firing order You can adjust ignition timing on your Jeep Wrangler by rotating the distributor a few degrees. This procedure is possible on the 4. Before starting, make sure you have the correct timing degree and RPMs at idle specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Timing your Jeep is best after you have driven the vehicle for about 20 minutes to make sure the engine has reached operating temperature. Park the car in a safe place and set the transmission to Park automatic or Neutral manual , apply the "Parking" brakes and turn off the engine. Locate the timing scale on the case cover above the crankcase pulley at the engine front end and the notch on the crankcase pulley or vibration dumper, right next to the timing scale. If they are hard to see, clean the scale plate and pulley. Then highlight the marks with white chalk or correction fluid. This wire is located on top of the valve cover. Also, unplug the vacuum hose at the distributor and plug the hose with a Phillips screwdriver of the appropriate size. Make sure the timing light wires are out of the way of moving parts. At all times, during this procedure, be aware of the rotating cooling fan so that you do not touch it by accident with your hands or a piece of equipment. Start the engine, increase the idle speed to rpm and adjust the idle to the number provided on the VECI label, following the procedure described in the same label. When ready, aim the timing light to the graduated scale on the front case cover and see what number on the scale the notch on the pulley points to.

Straight 6 engine jeep American Motors' first straight-six engine was the It was produced from through in both overhead valve OHV and flathead L-head side-valve versions. Sometimes referred to as the engine, this engine was originally designed by Nash and introduced in the Nash Ambassador model. It featured only four main bearings , unlike the 7-main-bearing flathead engine it replaced. It was a flathead design displacing It was redesigned as an OHV engine in The flathead version was discontinued for —, but reemerged in as the economy engine for the "new" Rambler American. When the engine was changed to an OHV configuration the water pump was moved from the left side of the engine driven by a shaft extending from the back of the generator to the front above the timing chain. When the flathead model was reintroduced it also received the new water pump. Equipped with such high quality parts as forged crankshafts and connecting rods , these engines earned a reputation for remarkable durability. The flathead, however, was prone to the typical flathead problem of overheating under sustained heavy load. This was from the hot exhaust traveling through the cylinder block to the exhaust manifold. American Motors introduced a die-cast aluminum block version of the OHV It was produced through The cylinder heads for the two types of block aluminum and cast iron are of similar design, but are not interchangeable. The OHV requires more periodic maintenance than newer-model engines. The head bolts must be re-torqued retightening process regularly. The cause of the headbolts loosening over time is believed to be thermal expansion and contraction of the head due to the rather heavy design.

  • Chapter 5: the 1997-98 Crisis and Its Aftermath
5 The 1997-98 Crisis and Its Aftermath The Crisis in Korea Unfolds The 1997 Asian financial crisis, in which Korea figures importantly but not exclusively, has become one of the most written-about subjects in contem- porary economics. Thus, I have no intention here of repeating in any depth what is covered well elsewhere; rather, only a summary of main events follows.1 Views among analysts vary as to exactly why the crisis in Korea occurred. Steven Radelet and Jeffrey Sachs (1998), for example, argue that the crisis in Korea was almost entirely a result of volatility of international financial flows. They claim that the “fundamentals” of the Korean economy were sound and that there was no reason, apart from the withdrawal of funds from Korea by international investors, why the econ- omy should have undergone the crisis that in fact did occur. This interpretation is, of course, somewhat at variance with the story told here. Without question, the classical macroeconomic fundamentals of Korea appeared sound in the middle of 1997; inflation was low, there was a government fiscal surplus, overall growth was positive, and the balance of payments on the current account, while in deficit, was not seriously so 1. For more detailed descriptions and analyses of the crisis, the reader should see, e.g., Goldstein (1998) or Haggard (2000). Also, Nanto and Jones (1997) provide an excellent summary and analysis of the early stages of the crisis as it affected Korea in 1997. Warr (2000) gives an analysis of the macroeconomic aspects of the crisis, and Smith (2000) offers an account of how macroeconomic and structural factors interacted as the crisis developed.

  • Will the Chaebol Reform Process Move Forward Under the Moon Jae-In Administration? —Future Directions and Challenges—
Will the Chaebol Reform Process Move Forward under the Moon Jae-in Administration? —Future Directions and Challenges— By Hidehiko Mukoyama Senior Economist Economics Department Japan Research Institute Summary 1. Collusive links between politics and business were a major focus during South Korea’s 2017 presidential election. In an address to the national after his election victory, President Moon Jae-in promised to carry out reforms targeting the chaebol (industrial conglomerates) and eliminate collusion between politicians and business people. The purpose of this article is to clarify how the chaebol reform process is likely to proceed, what the focal points will be, and the issues that could arise. 2. The economic policy of the Moon Jae-in administration is based on the four pillars of income-driven growth, the establishment of an economy that will generate jobs, fair competition (including chaebol reform), and growth through innovation. Immediately after taking power, President Moon Jae-in announced policies targeted toward income-driven growth. Efforts to achieve growth through innovation began in the fall of 2017. The chaebol reform process has not yet begun. 3. Chaebol reform is necessary for several reasons. First, the concentration of economic power in the hands of the chaebol is producing harmful effects, including growing economic disparity, and a lack of jobs for young workers. Second, there have been numerous fraud cases relating to the inheritance of management rights by members of the chaebol families. Third, the chaebol have repeatedly colluded with politicians. 4. One reason for repeated cases of business-political collusion is the enormous amount of au- thority wielded by the South Korean president.
