Having always loved the combination of film and music (aged 17 he gave up a place at film school to pursue a career in music) Peter Gabriel’s first opportunity to really marry these twin interests came when he was asked to create the music for Alan Parker’s film Birdy‘ ’ in 1985. Further film work, including his music for Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ (that became the album ‘Passion’) and the soundtrack to Philip Noyce’s film Rabbit-Proof‘ Fence’ (released as the album ‘Long Walk Home’), has continued to feed that interest.

Having the same line-up since album one, and with 4 European tours behind them, their new record is a wonderfully organic, spontaneous demonstration of six very close people who have spent some time playing music together. “All the members of this band are exceptional musicians. OVERVIEW

Music production technology in the 1980s opened doors to new sounds and experiments from producers around the world. By the mid-80s, Jamaican producers who built their name on the live studio sound with a drum and bass foundation, either adopted synthesised drums, full digital drum machines or dropped out of the game. Producer and melodica player Augustus Pablo was a prolific survivor from the ‘classic’ reggae era, released four new studio albums through Greensleeves between 1986 and 1990, demonstrating a new take on classic a sound as the new ‘digital’ era of reggae was taking hold. Collected together here as Ancient Harmonies on two discs are the four albums; Rising Sun, Rockers Comes East, One Step Dub, and Blowing With The Wind. Recorded at Channel One, Tuff Gong, Dynamic, HC&F & Creative Sound with engineers including Scientist, Soldgie, Phillip Smart & Steven Stanley, these new sounds found an audience with the new age sound system culture in Europe.
