We could do anything we wanted to as long as it wasn’t something our mother wouldn’t want us to do. My mother never gave me and my brothers a list of things we couldn’t or shouldn’t do. We were supposed to just know what not to do. She would frequently threaten us with a whipping as a consequence of doing something she didn’t want us to do. But we didn’t cower at these threats because we knew she didn’t like spanking her children or for anyone else to spank us. Too bad my grandmother didn’t care how she felt. After a week’s break to celebrate the Fourth of July, the Summer Reading Program at the Taylor County Public Library will continue Thursday, July 11, with storyteller Paul Peavy. “Come and be dazzled by the stories he tells,” said Kim Pegg for the library. The following week, July 18, Pirate Mark Petty will arrive with skits “filled with fun.” Children are encouraged to come dressed as pirates for this program.
