Movielistings 4b The Goodland Star-News / Friday, December 29, 2006 Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have FUN BY THE NUMBERS you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test! Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, col- umn and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle! Cultural Anthropology through the Lens of Wikipedia: Historical Leader Networks, Gender Bias, and News-based Sentiment Peter A. Gloor, Joao Marcos, Patrick M. de Boer, Hauke Fuehres, Wei Lo, Keiichi Nemoto [email protected] MIT Center for Collective Intelligence Abstract In this paper we study the differences in historical World View between Western and Eastern cultures, represented through the English, the Chinese, Japanese, and German Wikipedia. In particular, we analyze the historical networks of the World’s leaders since the beginning of written history, comparing them in the different Wikipedias and assessing cultural chauvinism. We also identify the most influential female leaders of all times in the English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese Wikipedia. As an additional lens into the soul of a culture we compare top terms, sentiment, emotionality, and complexity of the English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German Wikinews. 1 Introduction Over the last ten years the Web has become a mirror of the real world (Gloor et al. 2009). More recently, the Web has also begun to influence the real world: Societal events such as the Arab spring and the Chilean student unrest have drawn a large part of their impetus from the Internet and online social networks. In the meantime, Wikipedia has become one of the top ten Web sites1, occasionally beating daily newspapers in the actuality of most recent news. Be it the resignation of German national soccer team captain Philipp Lahm, or the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 in the Ukraine by a guided missile, the corresponding Wikipedia page is updated as soon as the actual event happened (Becker 2012.

  • Address by NASA Administrator Sean O'keefe
Remarks by the Honorable Sean O’Keefe NASA Administrator Apollo 11 Anniversary Event Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum July 20, 2004 Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It is a great privilege to be in this shrine to aviation and spaceflight achievement in the presence of America's first great generation of space explorers, those who made their epic voyages possible, and of our current astronauts and the NASA team members who will enable humanity's next momentous steps in space as Dr. Marburger (Presidential Science Advisory Dr. Jack Marburger) just so eloquently discussed. There are so many great friends here from Congress who been very, very important in our quest to make this next great step feasible. Senator Bill Nelson, Congressmen Ralph Hall, Nick Lampson, Sheila Jackson Lee, Mike McIntyre, Mike Pence, Vic Snyder, Dave Weldon, Bob Aderholt, Chairman of 1 the Science Committee Sherry Boehlert, Sam Johnson, Tom Feeney, Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee Chairman Dana Rohrabacher and Juliane Sullivan who is here representing Majority Leader Tom DeLay. We are delighted for their participation, their help, their enthusiasm for I think the importance of this evening's event, as well as for our continued quest forward. I doubt there are any historical parallels to our good fortune here. Certainly, no records exist of people living in Lisbon 500 years ago attending a candlelit tribute to Amerigo Vespucci, Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan, who was about to set forth on his voyage to circle the globe. Yet here we are, in the midst of another great age of exploration, thrilled to have under one roof so many heroes who've sailed over the far horizon to the shores of space and back, including to a dusty Sea named Tranquility.

  • Not Another Teen Movie”
Uncovering the Function of Taboo Words Used in “Not Another Teen Movie” Dian Mukti Primasari1, Alek2 , Didin Nuruddin Hidayat3, and Dhuha Hadiyansyah4 {[email protected] 1, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]} 1,2,3,4UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia Abstract. The study investigated the use of taboo words in a specific movie, namely Not Another Teen Movies. Taboo stimuli are exceptionally stirring, yet it has been recommended that they likewise have inborn explicit properties, for example, taboo, offensiveness, disagreeableness, or even shock value. Nonetheless, taboo words frequently contrast from different words on something beyond excitement and forbidden properties. In the present study, the researchers replicated both of these discoveries and directed detailed item analyses to figure out which word properties drive a few impacts. The study concludes that the taboo words have several functions. Those are expressing desire, insulting people, expressing pride, cursing and disappointment, metaphor, literal meaning, openness, and hatred expression. Keywords: taboo, words analysis, word function 1. INTRODUCTION Swear words and taboo words can heighten what are stated, yet they can stun or give offense. Swearing and the utilization of forbidden words and articulations are very basic in talking. We frequently hear and use them both in private and in open settings and in movies, on TV and on the radio. The utilization of forbidden articulations recommends that speakers have, or wish to have, a nearby close to home association with others [1]. We additionally utilize unthinkable articulations and swear words when we express solid sentiments, or when we wish to undermine or to be upsetting to other people [2].

“A Prairie Home Companion”: First Broadcast (July 6, 1974) Added to the National Registry: 2003 Essay by Chuck Howell (guest post)* Garrison Keillor “Well, it's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, my hometown, out on the edge of the prairie.” On July 6, 1974, before a crowd of maybe a dozen people (certainly less than 20), a live radio variety program went on the air from the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. It was called “A Prairie Home Companion,” a name which at once evoked a sense of place and a time now past--recalling the “Little House on the Prairie” books, the once popular magazine “The Ladies Home Companion” or “The Prairie Farmer,” the oldest agricultural publication in America (founded 1841). The “Prairie Farmer” later bought WLS radio in Chicago from Sears, Roebuck & Co. and gave its name to the powerful clear channel station, which blanketed the middle third of the country from 1928 until its sale in 1959. The creator and host of the program, Garrison Keillor, later confided that he had no nostalgic intent, but took the name from “The Prairie Home Cemetery” in Moorhead, MN. His explanation is both self-effacing and humorous, much like the program he went on to host, with some sabbaticals and detours, for the next 42 years. Origins Gary Edward “Garrison” Keillor was born in Anoka, MN on August 7, 1942 and raised in nearby Brooklyn Park. His family were not (contrary to popular opinion) Lutherans, instead belonging to a strict fundamentalist religious sect known as the Plymouth Brethren.
